1 A nd it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

Самуил, когато остаря, постави синовете си съдии над Израиля.

2 N ow the name of his first-born was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah: they were judges in Beer-sheba.

Името на първородния му беше Иоил, а името на втория му Авия; те бяха съдии във Вир-савее.

3 A nd his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.

Но синовете му не ходеха в неговите пътища, но се отклониха та отиваха след сребролюбието, и вземаха подкуп, и извръщаха правосъдието.

4 T hen all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah;

Тогава всичките Израилеви старейшини се събраха, та дойдоха при Самуил в Рама и му рекоха:

5 a nd they said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

Ето, ти остаря, и синовете ти не ходят в твоите пътища; постави ни, прочее, цар, който да ни съди, както е у всичките народи.

6 B ut the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto Jehovah.

Обаче на Самуила не бе угодно гдето рекоха: Дай ни цар, който да ни съди. И Самуил се помоли на Господа.

7 A nd Jehovah said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee; for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.

А Господ каза на Самуила: Послушай гласа на людете за всичко, що ти говорят, защото не отхвърлиха тебе, но Мене отхвърлиха, за да не царувам над тях.

8 A ccording to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Според всичките дела, които те са вършили от деня, когато съм ги извел от Египет дори до тоя ден, като са Ме оставили и са служили на други богове, така правят и на тебе.

9 N ow therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit thou shalt protest solemnly unto them, and shalt show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Сега, прочее, слушай гласа им, обаче тържествено протестирай пред тях, и покажи им как ще постъпва царят, който ще царува над тях.

10 A nd Samuel told all the words of Jehovah unto the people that asked of him a king.

Самуил, прочее, каза всичките Господни думи на людете, които искаха цар от него.

11 A nd he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them unto him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;

Каза още: Така ще постъпва царят, който ще се възцари над вас; ще взема синовете ви и ще ги определя за колесниците си, и да му бъдат конници, и за да тичат пред колесницата му.

12 a nd he will appoint them unto him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will set some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.

И ще си ги назначава хилядници и петдесетници, и ще ги поставя да работят земята му, да жънат жетвата му, и да правят военните му оръжия и приборите за колесниците му.

13 A nd he will take your daughters to be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

Ще взема и дъщерите ви за мироварици и готвачки и хлебарки.

14 A nd he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

И ще взема по-добрите от нивите ви, лозята ви и маслините ви и ще ги дава на слугите си.

15 A nd he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

Ще взема и десетък от посевите ви и от лозята ви и ще ги дава на скопците си и на слугите си.

16 A nd he will take your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.

И ще взема слугите ви, слугините ви, по-добрите момчета, и ослите ви и ще ги употребява в своите работи.

17 H e will take the tenth of your flocks: and ye shall be his servants.

Ще взема десетък от стадата ви; и вие ще му бъдете слуги.

18 A nd ye shall cry out in that day because of your king whom ye shall have chosen you; and Jehovah will not answer you in that day.

В оня ден ще викате поради церя си, когото ще сте си избрали; но Господ няма да ви послуша в оня ден.

19 B ut the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay: but we will have a king over us,

Обаче, людете не искаха да послушат Самуиловия глас, а рекоха: Не, но цар нека има над нас,

20 t hat we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

за да бъдем и ние както всичките народи, и нашият цар да ни служи, и да ни предвожда, и да воюва в боевете ни.

21 A nd Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Jehovah.

И Самуил, като изслуша всичките думи на людете, каза ги в ушите на Господа.

22 A nd Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

А Господ каза на Самуила: Послушай гласа им и постави им цар. Тогава Самуил каза на Израилевите мъже: Идете всеки в града си.
