1 S aul was forty years old when he began to reign; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,

До това време Саул беше царувал една година; а като царува две години над Израиля,

2 S aul chose him three thousand men of Israel, whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

Саул си избра три хиляди мъже от Израиля, от които две хиляди бяха със Саула в Михмас и в хълма Ветил, а хиляда бяха с Ионатан в Гавая Вениаминова; а останалата част от людете изпрати, всеки в шатъра му.

3 A nd Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba: and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

И Ионатан порази филистимския гарнизон, който беше в Гава и филистимците чуха.

4 A nd all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.

И така, целият Израил чу да говорят, бе Саул поразил филистимския гарнизон, и че Израил станал омразен на филистимците. И людете се събраха в Галгал да следват Саула.

5 A nd the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven.

А филистимците се събраха да се бият с Израиля, тридесет хиляди колесници и шест хиляди конници и люде по множество, като пясъка край морския бряг; и възлязоха та разположиха стан в Михмас, на изток от Ветавен.

6 W hen the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits.

Когато Израилевите мъже видяха, че бяха поставени на тясно, (защото людете бяха на тясно), тогова людете се скриха в пещерите, в гъсталаците, в скалите, в канарите и в рововете.

7 N ow some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

И някои от евреите преминаха Иордан към Гадовата и Галаадската земя. А колкото за Саула, той беше още в Галгал; и всичките люде вървяха подир него с трепет.

8 A nd he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

И чака седем дена, според определеното от Самуила време; а понеже Самуил не беше дошъл в Галгал, и людете се разпръсваха от него,

9 A nd Saul said, Bring hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offered the burnt-offering.

затова рече Саул: Донесете тука при мене всеизгарянето и примирителните приноси. И той принесе всеизгарянето.

10 A nd it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

И щом свърши принасянето на всеизгарянето, ето, Самуил дойде; и Саул излезе да го посрещне и да го поздрави.

11 A nd Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash;

А Самуил каза: Що стори ти? И Саул рече: Понеже видях, че людете се разпръсваха от мана, и че ти не дойде на определеното време, а филистимците се събраха в Михмас,

12 t herefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering.

затова си рекох, сега филистимците ще нападнат върху мене в Галгал, а пък аз не съм отправил молба към Господа; и тъй, дръзнах та принесох всеизгарянето.

13 A nd Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

И Самуил каза на Саула: Безумие си сторил ти, гдето не опази повелението, което Господ твоят Бог ти заповяда; защото Господ щеше сега да утвърди царството ти над Израиля до века.

14 B ut now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.

Но сега царството ти няма да трае; Господ си потърси човек според сърцето Си, и него определи да бъде княз над людете Му, понеже ти не опази онова, което Господ ти заповяда.

15 A nd Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.

Тогава Самуил стана та отиде от Галгал в Гавая Вениаминова. А Саул преброи людете, които се намираха с него; и те бяха около шестотин мъже.

16 A nd Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

Саул и син му Ионатан и людете, които се намираха с тях, седяха в Гавая Вениаминова; а филистимците бяха разположили стан в Михмас.

17 A nd the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual;

И от филистимския стан излязоха три чети грабители; една чета се отправи по пътя за Офра към земята Согал;

18 a nd another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looketh down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

друга чета се отправи по пътя за Веторон; а друга чета се отправи по пътя за околността, който гледа към долината Севоим къде пустинята.

19 N ow there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:

А в цялата Израилева земя не се намираше ковач, защото филистимците рекоха: Да не би евреите да си направят мечове или копия,

20 b ut all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;

но всичките израилтяни слизаха при филистимците, за да наклепят всеки търнокопа си, палешника си, брадвата си и мотиката си.

21 y et they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads.

Обаче, имаха пила за търнокопите, палешниците, тризъбците и брадвите, и за да острят остените.

22 S o it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

Затова, в деня на боя не се намираше нито нож, ни копие в ръката на някого от людете, които бяха със Саула и Ионатана; в Саула, обаче, и в сина му Ионатана намериха се.

23 A nd the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmash.

А филистимския гарнизон излезе към прохода Михмас.
