1 A nd when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

Cuando llegó Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres de guerra escogidos, para pelear contra Israel y devolver el reino a Roboam.

2 B ut the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Pero vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías, varón de Dios, diciendo:

3 S peak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

«Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, y diles:

4 T hus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

“Así ha dicho Jehová: No subáis a pelear contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa, porque esto es cosa mía.”» Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Jehová y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam. Prosperidad de Roboam

5 A nd Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

Habitó Roboam en Jerusalén y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

6 H e built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

Edificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa,

7 a nd Beth-zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

Bet-sur, Soco, Adulam,

8 a nd Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

Gat, Maresa, Zif,

9 a nd Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca,

10 a nd Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

Zora, Ajalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín.

11 A nd he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

Reforzó también las fortalezas y puso en ellas capitanes, provisiones, vino y aceite;

12 A nd in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

en todas las ciudades había escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.

13 A nd the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

Los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos los lugares donde vivían,

14 F or the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:

pues los levitas dejaron sus ejidos y sus posesiones y se fueron a Judá y a Jerusalén, porque Jeroboam y sus hijos los excluyeron del ministerio de Jehová.

15 a nd he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

Y él designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, para los demonios y para los becerros que había hecho.

16 A nd after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.

Tras aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel, los que tenían el propósito sincero de buscar a Jehová, Dios de Israel; y fueron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

17 S o they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

Así fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años; porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

18 A nd Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

Tomó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat, hija de Jerimot hijo de David y de Abihail, hija de Eliab hijo de Isaí,

19 w hich bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

la cual le dio a luz estos hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

20 A nd after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

Después de ella tomó a Maaca, hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit.

21 A nd Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

Pero Roboam amó a Maaca, hija de Absalón, sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas, pues tuvo dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

22 A nd Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca como jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerlo rey.

23 A nd he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.

Obró sagazmente, pues esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, dándoles provisiones en abundancia y muchas mujeres.
