1 E phraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

«Efraín se apacienta de viento, anda tras el viento del este todo el día; multiplica la mentira y la violencia, porque hicieron pacto con los asirios y llevan el aceite a Egipto.»

2 T he Lord hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

Pleito tiene Jehová con Judá para castigar a Jacob conforme a su conducta; le pagará conforme a sus obras.

3 H e took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

En el seno materno tomó por el calcañar a su hermano, y con su poder venció al ángel.

4 y ea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

Luchó con el ángel y prevaleció; lloró y le rogó; lo halló en Bet-el, y allí habló con nosotros.

5 e ven the Lord God of hosts; the Lord is his memorial.

Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos: ¡Jehová es su nombre!

6 T herefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

Tú, pues, vuélvete a tu Dios; guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios confía siempre.

7 H e is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

«Canaán tiene en su mano pesas falsas, le gusta defraudar.

8 A nd Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

Efraín dijo: “Ciertamente me he enriquecido, me he labrado una fortuna; nadie hallará iniquidad en mí, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.”

9 A nd I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

Pero yo soy Jehová, tu Dios, desde la tierra de Egipto; aún te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

»He hablado a los profetas, multipliqué las profecías y por medio de los profetas hablé en parábolas.

11 I s there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

¿Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad han sido: En Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes, y sus altares son como montones de piedras sobre los surcos del campo.»

12 A nd Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

Pero Jacob huyó a la tierra de Aram; Israel sirvió para adquirir una mujer, y por adquirir una mujer fue pastor.

13 A nd by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

Por medio de un profeta, Jehová hizo subir a Israel de Egipto, y por un profeta fue guardado.

14 E phraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

Efraín ha irritado a Dios amargamente; por tanto, su Señor hará recaer sobre él la sangre derramada y le pagará sus agravios.
