1 E phraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

يَرعَى بَنُو أفْرايِمَ الرِّيحَ، وَيُلاحِقُونَ الرِّيحَ الشَّرقِيَّةَ طِيلَةَ اليَومِ، وَيَزِيدُونَ مِنَ الكَذِبِ وَالدَّمارِ. قَطَعُوا عَهداً مَعَ أشُّورَ وَحَمَلُوا زَيتَهُمْ إلَى مِصرَ.

2 T he Lord hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

«للهِ قَضِيَّةٌ مَعَ يَهُوذا، وَسَيُعاقِبُ يَعقُوبَ بِحَسَبِ ما يَستَحِقُّ، وَسَيُجازَى بِحَسَبِ أعمالِهِ.

3 H e took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

فَبَينَما هُوَ ما يَزالُ فِي الرَّحِمِ، خَدَعَ أخاهُ، وَبِقُوَّتِهِ تَصارَعَ مَعَ اللهِ.

4 y ea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

«تَصارَعَ مَعَ مَلاكٍ وَغَلَبَهُ. بَكَى وَتَضَرَّعَ إلَيهِ. وَجَدَ اللهَ فِي بَيتِ إيلَ، وَهُناكَ تَكَلَّمَ مَعَهُ.

5 e ven the Lord God of hosts; the Lord is his memorial.

يهوه الإلَهُ القَدِيرُ، يهوه اسْمُهُ.

6 T herefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

ارجِعْ إلَى إلَهِكَ كُنْ أمِيناً وَعادِلاً وَاتِّكِلْ عَلَى إلَهِكَ دائِماً.

7 H e is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

«يَعقُوبُ مِثلُ الكَنْعانِيِّ الَّذِي يَغِشُّ فِي المَوازِينِ لأنَّهُمْ يُحِبُّونَ الظُلمَ.

8 A nd Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

يَقُولُ أفْرايِمُ: ‹صِرتُ غَنِيّاً جِدّاً، وَقَد وَجَدتُ ثَرَواتٍ لأجلِ ذاتِي. الأشيِاءُ الَّتِي عَمِلتُها لَن تَكشِفَنِي، وَلَن تُدرِكَنِي أيَّةُ آثامٍ ارتَكَبتُها.›

9 A nd I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

«أنا إلَهُكَ مُنذُ وُجُودِكَ فِي أرْضِ مِصرَ سَتَعِيشُ فِي خِيامٍ فِي الصَّحراءِ، كَما كُنْتَ أيّامَ خَيمَةِ الاجْتِماعِ.

10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

«أنا كَلَّمتُ الأنبِياءِ، وَأعَلَنْتُ مَشِيئَتِي بِالرُّؤَى. وَتَكَلَّمْتُ عَلَى فَمِ الأنبِياءِ بِأمثالٍ.

11 I s there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

هُناكَ إثمٌ فِي جِلْعادَ، فَإنَّهُمْ كانُوا أكثَرَ سُوءاً وَبُطلاً فِي الجِلجالِ حَيثُ يَذبَحُونَ الثِّيرانَ. مَذابِحُهُمْ كَثِيرَةٌ كَأكوامِ الصُّخُورِ قُربَ أتلامِ الحُقُولِ.

12 A nd Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

هَرَبَ يَعقُوبُ إلَى حُقُولِ أرامَ، وَعَمِلَ للحُصُولِ عَلَى زَوجَةٍ، وَحَرَسَ غَنَماً لِيَتَزَوَّجَ بِامرَأةٍ أُخْرَى.

13 A nd by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

أخرَجَ اللهُ إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ مِصرَ بِنَبِيٍّ، وَبِنَبِيٍّ حَفِظَهُ.

14 E phraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

صَنَعَ أفْرايِمُ مَرارَةً وَأساءَ كَثِيراً. لِذا سَيَرُدُّ رَبُّهُ ذَنبَهُ عَلَيهِ، وَسَيُجازِيهِ عَلَى جَرائِمِهِ.»
