1 T hen Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,

وَمِنْ جَوْفِ السَّمَكَةِ، صَلَّى يُونانُ لإلَهِهِ ، فَقالَ:

2 a nd said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

«دَعَوتُ اللهَ مِنْ ضِيقِيَ فَاسْتَجابَ لِي! مِنْ أعماقِ الهاوِيَةِ صَرَختُ، فَسَمِعْتَ صُراخِي.

3 F or thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

«ألقَيتَ بِي فِي البَحرِ العَمِيقِ، وَفِي قَلبِ البَحرِ أحاطَتْ بِي التَّيّاراتُ، وَجَمِيعُ أمواجِكَ الهادِرَةِ فَوْقِي.

4 T hen I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

عِندَئِذٍ قُلْتُ لِنَفسِي: ‹ها إنَّنِي قَدْ طُرِدتُ بَعِيداً عَنْ عَينَيكَ، لَكِنَّنِي سَأنظُرَ نَحوَ هَيكَلِكَ المُقَدَّسِ مِنْ جَدِيدٍ.›

5 T he waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

«أغلَقَتِ المِياهُ عَلَيَّ، وَالبَحرُ العَمِيقُ غَمَرَنِي. عُشبُ البَحرِ التَفَّ حَولَ رَأسِي.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

نَزَلتُ إلَى أساساتِ الجِبالِ، وَانْحَدَرتُ إلَى أعْماقِ الأرْضِ، فَظَنَنْتُ أنَّهُ أُغلِقَ وَرائِي إلَى الأبَدِ. لَكِنَّكَ أقَمتَ حَياتِي مِنَ القَبرِ، يا إلَهِي.

7 W hen my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

«عِندَما تَعِبْتُ وَفَقَدْتُ كُلَّ أمَلٍ، تَذَكَرتُ اللهَ ، وَارتَفَعَتْ صَلاتِي إلَيكَ فِي هَيكَلِكَ المُقَدَّسِ.

8 T hey that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

«الَّذِينَ يَعبُدُونَ الأصنامَ التّافِهَةَ، يَتَخَلَّوْنَ عَنْ مَحَبَّتِهِمْ لَكَ.

9 B ut I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

أمّا أنا فَسَأُسَبِّحُكَ وَأحمَدُكَ وَأذبَحُ لَكَ، وَأُوفِي بِنُذُورِي لَكَ. فَمِنَ اللهِ يَأتِي خَلاصِي.»

10 A nd the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

عِنْدَئِذٍ أمَرَ اللهُ السَّمَكَةَ فَألْقَتْهُ إلَى اليابِسَةِ.
