1 W hoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

مَنْ يُحِبُّ التَّأدِيبَ فَهُوَ يُحِبُّ المَعرِفَةَ، وَالّذي يَكرَهُ التَّوبِيخَ غَبِيُّ.

2 A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

الإنسانُ الصّالِحُ يَنالُ رِضَى اللهِ ، أمّا الَّذِي يُخَطِّطُ للشَّرِّ فَسَيُدانُ.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

لا يَقوَى الإنسانُ بِالشَّرِّ، أمّا البارُّ فَتَثبُتُ جُذُورُهُ.

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

المَرأةُ الصّالِحَةُ تاجٌ لِزَوجِها، أمّا الَّتِي تَجلِبُ العارَ لِزَوجِها فَكَالنَّخْرَ فِي العِظامِ.

5 T he thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

أفكارُ البارِّ كُلُّها عَدلٌ، أمّا خُطَطُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَكُلُّها خِداعٌ.

6 T he words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

كَلامُ الشِّرِّيرِ يُشبِهُ الفَخَّ الَّذِي يَقُودُ إلَى المَوتِ، أمّا كَلامُ البارِّ فَيُنقِذُ حَياةَ النّاسِ.

7 T he wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

يَسقُطُ الشِّرِّيرُ وَلا يَبقَى لَهُ أثَرٌ، أمّا بَيتُ البارِّ فَيَثبُتُ.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

يُمدَحُ الإنْسانُ عَلَى حِكْمتِهِ، أمّا الَّذِي يُفَكِّرُ بِالفَسادِ فَيُحتَقَرُ.

9 H e that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

خَيرٌ لَكَ أنْ لا تَكُونَ مُهِمّاً وَتَملِكُ عَبداً، مِنْ أنْ تَدَّعِيَ الأَهَمِّيَةَ وَلَيسَ عِندَكَ طَعامٌ.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

البارُّ يَهتَمُّ بِحاجَةِ بَهِيمَتِهِ، أمّا شَفَقَةُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَهِيَ قَسوَةٌ.

11 H e that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

مَنْ يَعمَلُ فِي حَقلِهِ فَسَيَجنِي الكَثِيرَ مِنَ الطَّعامِ، أمّا الأحْمَقُ فَيُلاحِقُ أشياءَ بِلا قِيمَةٍ.

12 T he wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

الشِّرِّيرُ يَشتَهِي صَيدَ الشَّرِّ، أمّا الأبْرارُ فَيُثمِرُونَ دائِماً.

13 T he wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

يُمسَكُ الشِّرِّيرُ بِسَبَبِ كَلامِهِ الخاطِئِ، أمّا البارُّ فيَنْجُو مِنَ المَتاعِبِ.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

يَشبَعُ الإنسانُ خَيراً مِنْ ثَمَرِ فَمِهِ، وَيُكافَأُ الإنسانُ عَلَى عَمَلِ يَدَيهِ.

15 T he way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

طَرِيقُ الأحْمَقِ تَبدُو صَحِيحَةً لَهُ، أمّا الحَكِيمُ فَيَستَمِعُ إلَى النَّصِيحَةِ.

16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

الأحْمَقُ يُظهِرُ غَضَبَهُ فِي الحالِ، أمّا الَّذِي يَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ أهانَهُ فَهُوَ ذَكيٌّ.

17 H e that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

الشّاهِدُ الصّادِقُ يَقُولُ الحَقَّ، أمّا الشّاهِدُ الكاذِبُ فَتَقُودُ كَلِماتُهُ إلَى الخِداعِ وَالضِّيقِ.

18 T here is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

هُناكَ ثَرثَرَةٌ مِثلُ الطَّعْنِ بِالسَّيفِ، أمّا كَلامُ الحَكِيمِ فَفِيهِ شِفاءٌ.

19 T he lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

الكَلامُ الصّادِقُ يَثبُتُ إلَى الأبَدِ، أمّا كَلامُ الكَذِبِ فَيَثبُتُ لِلَحَظاتٍ.

20 D eceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

الخِداعُ مَوجُودٌ فِي ذِهنِ الَّذِينَ يُفَكِّرُونَ بِالشَّرِّ، أمّا الَّذِينَ يُفَكِّرُونَ بِالخَيْرِ وَيُنادُونَ بِهِ فَيَفرَحُونَ.

21 T here shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

البارُّ لا يُصِيبُهُ الشَّرُّ، وَالشِّرِّيرُ يَمتَلِئُ بِالمَشاكِلِ.

22 L ying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

اللهُ يَحتَقِرُ الكَلامَ الكاذِبَ، وَيَفرَحُ بِالصّادِقِينَ.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

الرَّجُلُ الذَّكِيُّ لا يُظْهِرُ كُلَّ ما يَعرِفُهُ، أمّا الأغبِياءُ فَيُظهِرُونَ جَهلَهُمْ.

24 T he hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

المُجتَهِدُ سَيَحكُمُ، أمّا الكُسالَى فَيُصْبِحُونَ فُقَراءَ وَعَبِيداً.

25 H eaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

القَلَقُ الَّذِي فِي قَلبِ الإنسانِ يَحْنيهِ، وَالكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ تُسعِدُهُ.

26 T he righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

البارُّ يَنْصَحُ جِيرانَهُ، أمّا الأشرارُ فَيُضِلُّونَ.

27 T he slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

الكَسْلانُ لا يَطبُخُ صَيدَهُ، أمّا المُجتَهِدُ فَيَنالُ الغِنَى.

28 I n the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

هُناكَ حَياةٌ فِي طَرِيقِ البِرِّ، فَطَريقُهُمُ لا يَقُودُ إلَى المَوْتِ.
