1 B ehold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

تَأمَّلُوا المَحَبَّةَ العَظِيمَةَ الَّتِي أحَبَّنا بِها الآبُ، حَتَّى إنَّهُ أعْطانا امْتِيازاً أنْ نُدعَى أولادَ اللهِ! وَنَحنُ فِعلاً كَذَلِكَ! لِهَذا السَّبَبِ فَإنَّ العالَمَ لا يَعرِفُنا، لأنَّهُ لا يَعرِفُ الآبَ.

2 B eloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

أيُّها الأحِبّاءُ، نَحنُ الآنَ أولادُ اللهِ، وَلَمْ يُعلَنْ بَعدُ ماذا سَنَكُونُ. لَكِنَّنا نَعلَمُ أنَّهُ عِندَما يَعُودُ المَسِيحُ ثانِيَةً سَنَكُونُ مِثلَهُ، لِأنَّنا سَنَراهُ كَما هُوَ فِعلاً!

3 A nd every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

فَمَنْ يَمتَلِكُ هَذا الرَّجاءَ، يُطَهِّرُ نَفسَهُ كَما أنَّ المَسِيحَ طاهِرٌ.

4 W hosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

كُلُّ مَنْ يَفعَلُ الخَطِيَّةَ، يَكسِرُ شَرِيعَةَ اللهِ، لِأنَّ الخَطِيَّةَ هِيَ كَسرٌ لِلشَّرِيعَةِ.

5 A nd ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

وَتَعلَمُونَ أنَّ المَسِيحَ قَدْ جاءَ لِكَيْ يُزِيلَ خَطايا البَشَرِ، وَلَيسَتْ فِيهِ أيَّةُ خَطِيَّةٍ.

6 W hosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

كُلُّ مَنْ يَثبُتُ فِي المَسِيحِ لا يَستَمِرُّ فِي الخَطِيَّةِ، أمّا مَنْ يَستَمِرُّ فِي الخَطِيَّةِ، فَذَلِكَ لَمْ يَرَ المَسِيحَ وَلَمْ يَعرِفهُ.

7 L ittle children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

أبنائِي الأعِزّاءَ، لا تَدَعُوا أحَداً يَخدَعْكُمْ. مَنْ يَفعَلُ البِرَّ، بارٌّ كَما أنَّ المَسِيحَ بارٌّ.

8 H e that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

أمّا مَنْ يَرتَكِبُ الخَطِيَّةَ، فَهُوَ يَنتَمِي إلَى إبليسَ، لِأنَّ إبليسَ خاطِئٌ مُنذُ البِدايَةِ. وَلِهَذا جاءَ ابنُ اللهِ، كَيْ يُدَمِّرَ أعْمالَ إبلِيسَ.

9 W hosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

مَنْ أصبَحَ ابناً للهِ لا يُواصِلُ مَمارَسَةَ الخَطِيَّةِ، لأنَّ بِذرَةَ الحَياةِ الَّتي وَضَعَها اللهُ فيهِ، تَثْبُتُ فيهِ. بَلْ هُوَ لا يَستَطيعُ أنْ يَسْتَمِرَّ فِي الخَطِيَّةِ، لِأنَّهُ أصبَحَ ابناً للهِ.

10 I n this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

بِهَذا تَعِرِفونَ أولادَ اللهِ وَأولادَ إبلِيسَ، فَكُلُّ مَنْ لا يَفعَلُ البِرَّ لا يَنتَمِي إلَى اللهِ، وَكَذَلِكَ كُلُّ مَنْ لا يُحِبُّ أخاهُ. نُحِبُّ بَعضُنا بَعضا

11 F or this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

هَذِهِ هِيَ الرِّسالَةُ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُمُوها مِنَ البِدايَةِ: أنْ نُحِبَّ بَعضُنا بَعضاً.

12 N ot as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.

لَيسَ مِثلَ قايِيْنَ الَّذِي كانَ يَنتَمِي إلَى الشِّرِّيْرِ وَقَتَلَ أخاهُ. وَلِماذا قَتَلَهُ؟ قَتَلَهُ لِأنَّ أعمالَهُ هُوَ كانَتْ شِرِّيْرَةً، وَأعمالُ أخِيهِ حَسَنَةً.

13 M arvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

أيُّها الإخوَةُ، لا تَستَغرِبُوا إذا كَرِهَكُمُ العالَمُ.

14 W e know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

إنَّنا نَعلَمُ أنَّنا اجتَزنا مِنَ المَوتِ إلَى الحَياةِ، لِأنَّنا نُحِبُّ إخْوَتَنا، وَمَنْ لا يُحِبُّ يَبقَى فِي المَوتِ.

15 W hosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

مَنْ يُبغِضُ أخاهُ هُوَ قاتِلٌ! وَأنتُمْ تَعلَمُونَ أنَّ مَنْ يَقتُلُ، لَيسَتْ لَهُ حَياةٌ أبَدِيَّةٌ ثابِتَةٌ فِيهِ.

16 H ereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

هَكَذا نَعرِفُ المَحَبَّةَ: كَما أنَّ المَسِيحَ بَذَلَ حَياتَهُ مِنْ أجلِنا، كَذَلِكَ عَلَينا أنْ نَبذُلَ حَياتَنا فِي سَبِيلِ إخْوَتِنا.

17 B ut whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

كُلُّ مَنْ يَملِكُ شَيئاً مِنْ خَيراتِ هَذِهِ الدُّنيا، وَيَرَى أخاهُ فِي حاجَةٍ وَلا يُشفِقُ عَلَيهِ، لا يُمكِنُ أنْ تَكُونَ مَحَبَّةُ اللهِ ثابِتَةً فِيهِ.

18 M y little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

أبنائِي الأعِزّاءَ، دَعُونا لا نُحِبَّ بِالكَلامِ أوْ بِاللِّسانِ، بَلْ بِالمُمارَسَةِ وَالصِّدقِ.

19 A nd hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

هَكَذا نَعلَمُ أنَّنا نَنتَمِي إلَى الحَقِّ، وَهَكَذا تَطمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُنا أمامَ اللهِ.

20 F or if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

وَحَتَّى لَوْ أنَّبَتْنا قُلُوبُنا، فَاللهُ أعظَمُ مِنْ قُلُوبِنا، وَيَعلَمُ كُلَّ شَيءٍ.

21 B eloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

أحِبّائِي الأعِزّاءَ، إنْ لَمْ تُؤَنِّبنا قُلُوبُنا، فَإنَّ لَنا جُرأةً بِالِاقتِرابِ مِنَ اللهِ.

22 A nd whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

فَهُوَ يُعطِينا كُلَّ ما نَطلُبُهُ، لِأنَّنا نُطِيعُ وَصاياهُ، وَنَفعَلُ ما يُسِرُّهُ.

23 A nd this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

وَهَذا ما يُوصِينا بِهِ: أنْ نُؤمِنَ بابنِهِ يَسُوعَ المَسِيحِ، وَأنْ نُحِبَّ بَعضُنا بَعضاً كَما أوصانا يَسُوعُ.

24 A nd he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

مَنْ يُطِيعُ وَصايا اللهِ، يَثْبُتُ فِي اللهِ، وَيَثْبُتُ اللهُ فِيهِ. وَنَحنُ نَعرِفُ أنَّ اللهَ ثابِتٌ فِينا بِالرُّوحِ القُدُسِ الَّذِي أعطاهُ لَنا.
