1 W hen the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

«حِينَ يُفنِي إلَهُكُمُ الأُمَمَ الَّتِي سَيُعطِيكُمْ أرْضَهُمْ، وَتَطرُدُونَهُمْ وَتَسكُنُونَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ وَبُيُوتِهِمْ،

2 t hou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.

فَخَصِّصُوا ثَلاثَ مُدُنٍ فِي وَسَطِ الأرْضِ الَّتِي يُعطِيها إلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ لِتَمتَلِكُوها.

3 T hou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

يَنبَغِي أنْ تَحسِبُوا المَسافاتِ وَتُقَسِّمُوا الأرْضَ الَّتِي يُعطِيها إلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ إلَى ثَلاثَةِ أقسامٍ، لِيَهرُبَ إلَى هُناكَ كُلُّ قاتِلٍ.

4 A nd this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

«وَهَذا هِيَ القاعِدَةُ فِي منْ يَقتُلُ أحَداً وَيَهرُبُ هُناكَ لِيَبقَى حَيّاً: مَنْ يَقتُلُ شَخصاً بِغَيرِ قَصدٍ، وَلَيسَتْ بَينَهُما عَداوَةٌ مِنْ قَبلُ.

5 a s when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

فَإنْ ذَهَبَ اثْنانِ إلَى الغابَةِ لِقَطْعِ الأخشابِ، وَرَفَعَ أحَدُهُما يَدَهُ بِالفَأْسِ لِيَقطَعَ شَجَرَةً، فانزَلَقَ رَأسُ الفَأسِ مِنْ مِقبَضِهِ وَضَرَبَ رَفيقَهُ فَماتَ، فَليَهرُبْ إلَى إحدَى هَذِهِ المُدُنِ لِيَحيا.

6 l est the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

وَإنْ لَمْ يَهْرُبْ، فَإنَّ قَرِيبَ المَيِّتِ الَّذِي يَثأرُ لِدَمِهِ، سَيَسْعَى وَراءَهُ عِندَ اشْتِدادِ غَضَبِهِ. وَيُمسِكُهُ إنْ كانَ بَعِيداً عَنْ مَدِينَةِ اللُّجُوءِ وَيَقتُلُهُ. مَعَ أنَّهُ لا يَستَحِقُّ حُكمَ المَوتِ، لِأنَّهُ لَمْ يَقْتُلْ بِدَافِعِ الكَراهِيَّةِ.

7 W herefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

لِهَذا أُوصِيكُمْ أنْ تُخَصِّصُوا ثَلاثَ مُدُنٍ.

8 A nd if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

«وَلَكِنْ إنْ وَسَّعَ إلَهكُمْ أرْضَكُمْ، كَما وَعَدَ آباءَكُمْ. وَأعطاكُمْ كُلَّ الأرْضِ الَّتِي وَعَدَ بِأنْ أُعْطِيَها لآبائِكُمْ،

9 i f thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

فَإذا حَرِصتُمْ عَلَى عَمَلِ كُلِّ ما أُوصِيكُمْ بِهِ اليَومَ، بِأنْ تَحِبُّوا إلَهَكَمْ وَتَعيشوا حَسَبَ مَشِيئَتِهِ، فَحِينَئِذٍ تُضِيفُونَ ثَلاثَ مُدُنٍ أُخْرَى إلَى هَذِهِ الثَّلاث.

10 t hat innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

وَهَكَذا، لَنْ يُقتَلَ بَرِيءٌ فِي أرْضَكُمُ الَّتِي يُعطِيها إلَهُكُمْ مِيراثاً لَكُمْ، وَلَنْ تُدانوا بِسَبَبِ قَتلِ الأبْرياءِ.

11 B ut if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

«لَكِنْ إنْ كانَ شَخصٌ يَكرَهُ شَخصاً آخَرَ، فَكَمَنَ لَهُ، وَانْتَظَرَ، وَهاجَمَهُ وَضَرَبَهُ حَتَّى المَوتِ، وَهَرَبَ إلَى إحدَى هَذِهِ المُدُنِ،

12 t hen the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

فَإنَّهُ يَكُونُ عَلَى قادَةِ مَدِينَتِهِ أنْ يُرسِلُوا وَيَأْخُذُوهُ مِنْ هُناكَ وَيُسَلِّمُوهُ إلَى يَدِ الَّذي يَثأرُ لِدَمِهِ، فَيَقْتُلَهُ.

13 T hine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

لا تُشْفِقُوا عَلَيهِ، بَلْ أزِيلُوا إثمَ قَتلِ شَخصٍ بَرِيء مِنْ إسْرائِيلَ لِيَكُونَ لَكُمْ خَيرٌ. حُدُودُ الأملاك

14 T hou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.

«لا تُحَرِّكُوا الحِجارَةَ الَّتِي تُشِيرُ إلَى حُدُودِ أرْضِ جارِكُمُ الَّتِي وَضَعَها آباؤكُمْ فِي الأرْضِ الَّتِي يُعطِيها إلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ لِتَمتَلِكُوها. الشُّهُود

15 O ne witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

«لا يَكفِي شاهِدٌ واحِدٌ لإدانَةِ أحَدٍ عَلَى أيِّ خَطَأٍ أوْ عَلَى خَطيَّةٍ ارتَكَبَها، بَلْ تَتَثَبَّتُ كُلُّ مَسالَةٍ بِشَهادَةِ شاهِدَينِ أوْ ثَلاثَةٍ.

16 I f a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

«إذا تَقَدَّمَ شاهِدُ زُورٍ لِيَشهَدَ عَلَى شَخصٍ ما، وَقَدَّمَ شَهادَةً كاذِبَةً،

17 t hen both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;

يَقِفُ المُتَخاصِمانِ فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ أمامَ الكَهَنَةِ وَالقُضاةِ المَسؤُولِينَ فِي تِلكَ الأيّامِ.

18 a nd the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

وَيَتَحَرَّى القُضاةُ الأمرَ جَيِّداً، فَإنْ كانَ الشّاهِدُ قَدْ قَدَّمَ شَهادَةً كاذِبَةً ضِدَّ أخِيهِ،

19 t hen shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

فَإنَّهُ يَنبَغِي أنْ تَعمَلُوا بِهِ ما نَوَى أنْ يَعمَلَهُ بِأخِيهِ. وَهَكَذا تُزِيلُونَ الشَّرَّ مِنْ وَسَطِكُمْ.

20 A nd those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

فَيَسمَعَ بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعبِ عَنِ الأمرِ فَيَخافُوا، وَلا يَعمَلُوا مِثلَ هَذا الشَّرَّ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ.

21 A nd thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

«لا تُشفِقُوا عَلَيهِ، بَلِ عاقِبُوهُ حَياةً بِحَياةٍ، وَعَيناً بِعَينٍ، وَسِنّاً بِسِنٍّ، وَيَداً بِيَدٍ، وَرِجلا بِرِجلٍ.
