1 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

وَكَلَّمَ اللهُ مُوسَى فَقالَ:

2 S peak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.

«كَلِّمْ بَني إسْرائِيلَ، وَخُذْ مِنهُمُ اثْنَتَي عَشْرَةَ عَصاً: عَصاً واحِدَةً لِكُلِّ قَبيلَةٍ مِنْ جَمِيعِ رُؤَساءِ القَبائِلِ. وَاكتُبِ اسْمَ كُلِّ رَجُلٍ عَلَى عَصاهُ.

3 A nd thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.

وَاكتُبِ اسْمَ هارُونَ عَلَى عَصا قَبِيلَةِ لاوِي، إذْ سَتَكُونُ هُناكَ عَصاً واحِدَةً لِكُلِّ واحِدٍ مِنْ رُؤَساءِ القَبائِلِ.

4 A nd thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

وَضَعِ العِصِيَّ فِي خَيمَةِ الاجْتِماعِ أمامَ صُندُوقِ العَهدِ، حَيثُ ألتَقِي بِكُمْ.

5 A nd it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

وَعَصا الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي أختارُهُ سَتُورِقُ. وَهَكَذا سَأُوقِفُ تَذَمُّراتِ بَني إسْرائِيلَ الَّتِي يَتَذَمَّرُونَها عَلَيكُما.»

6 A nd Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

ثُمَّ كَلَّمَ مُوسَى بَني إسْرائِيلَ. وَأعطى كُلُّ رُؤَسائِهِمْ عِصِيّاً: عَصاً مِنْ كُلِّ رَئِيسِ عَشِيرَةٍ. وَكانَتْ عَصا هارُونَ بَينَ عِصِيِّهِمْ.

7 A nd Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.

وَوَضَعَ مُوسَى العِصِيَّ فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ فِي خَيمَةِ العَهدِ.

8 A nd it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

وَفِي اليَومِ التّالِي، دَخَلَ مُوسَى إلَى خَيمَةِ العَهدِ، وَرَأى عَصا هارُونَ الَّتِي تُمَثِّلُ قَبِيلَةَ لاوِي قَدْ أورَقَتْ وَأخرَجَتْ بَراعِمَ وَأزهَرَتْ وَأثمَرَتْ لَوزاً.

9 A nd Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.

فَحِينَئِذٍ، أخرَجَ مُوسَى كُلَّ العِصِيِّ مِنْ مَحْضَرِ اللهِ إلَى بَني إسْرائِيلَ، فَرَأى كُلُّ القادَةِ عِصِيَّهُمْ وَأخَذَ كُلُّ واحِدٍ عَصاهُ.

10 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

فَحِينَئِذٍ، قالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «أرجِعْ عَصا هارُونَ إلَى أمامِ صُندُوقِ الشَّهادَةِ لِحِفظِها كَعَلامَةٍ لِتَحذِيرِ المُتَمَرِّدِينَ كَي يَتَوَقَّفُوا عَنِ التَّذَمُّرِ عَلَيَّ كَي لا يَمُوتُوا.»

11 A nd Moses did so: as the Lord commanded him, so did he.

فَفَعَلَ مُوسَى ذَلِكَ، تَماماً كَما أمَرَهُ اللهُ.

12 A nd the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.

فَقالَ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ لِمُوسَى: «سَنَمُوتُ! سَنَهلِكُ! سَنَفنَى!

13 W hosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?

كُلُّ مَنْ يَقتَرِبُ مِنْ مَسْكَنِ اللهِ سَيَمُوتُ. فَهَلْ سَنَمُوتُ جَمِيعاً؟»
