1 H aving therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 R eceive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

Admitidnos: a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado.

3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

No lo digo para condenaros, pues ya he dicho antes que estáis en nuestro corazón, para morir y para vivir juntos.

4 G reat is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

Mucha franqueza tengo con vosotros; mucho me glorío con respecto de vosotros. Estoy lleno de consuelo y sobreabundo de gozo en medio de todas nuestras tribulaciones.

5 F or, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Cuando vinimos a Macedonia, ciertamente ningún reposo tuvo nuestro cuerpo, sino que en todo fuimos atribulados: de fuera, conflictos, y de dentro, temores.

6 N evertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

Pero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la venida de Tito;

7 a nd not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

y no sólo con su venida, sino también con la consolación con que él había sido consolado en cuanto a vosotros, haciéndonos saber vuestro gran afecto, vuestro llanto, vuestra preocupación por mí, de manera que me regocijé aún más.

8 F or though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

Aunque os entristecí con la carta, no me pesa, pero sí lo lamenté entonces, pues veo que aquella carta os entristeció por algún tiempo.

9 N ow I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

Ahora me gozo, no porque hayáis sido entristecidos, sino porque fuisteis entristecidos para arrepentimiento, porque habéis sido entristecidos según Dios, para que ninguna pérdida padecierais por nuestra parte.

10 F or godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

La tristeza que es según Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, de lo cual no hay que arrepentirse; pero la tristeza del mundo produce muerte.

11 F or behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Esto mismo de que hayáis sido entristecidos según Dios, ¡qué preocupación produjo en vosotros, qué defensa, qué indignación, qué temor, qué ardiente afecto, qué celo y qué vindicación! En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el asunto.

12 W herefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

Así que, aunque os escribí, no fue por causa del que cometió el agravio, ni por causa del que lo padeció, sino para que se os hiciera evidente la preocupación que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.

13 T herefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Por esto hemos sido consolados en vuestra consolación. Pero mucho más nos gozamos por el gozo de Tito, que haya sido confortado su espíritu por todos vosotros.

14 F or if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

Si de algo me he gloriado con él respecto de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado. Al contrario, así como en todo os hemos hablado verdad, también resultó verdad el habernos gloriado con Tito acerca de vosotros.

15 A nd his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

Y su cariño por vosotros es aún más abundante, cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos vosotros, de cómo lo recibisteis con temor y temblor.

16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

Me gozo de que en todo tengo confianza en vosotros.
