1 A nd it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Aconteció en aquellos días que se promulgó un edicto de parte de Augusto César, que todo el mundo fuera empadronado.

2 ( And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

Este primer censo se hizo siendo Cirenio gobernador de Siria.

3 A nd all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno a su ciudad.

4 A nd Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

También José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David,

5 t o be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba encinta.

6 A nd so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

Aconteció que estando ellos allí se le cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento.

7 A nd she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y lo envolvió en pañales y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón. Los ángeles y los pastores

8 A nd there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Había pastores en la misma región, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su rebaño.

9 A nd, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

Y se les presentó un ángel del Señor y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor, y tuvieron gran temor.

10 A nd the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Pero el ángel les dijo: —No temáis, porque yo os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:

11 F or unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.

12 A nd this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Esto os servirá de señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, acostado en un pesebre.

13 A nd suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Repentinamente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales, que alababan a Dios y decían:

14 G lory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

«¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!»

15 A nd it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

Sucedió que cuando los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: —Pasemos, pues, hasta Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido y que el Señor nos ha manifestado.

16 A nd they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

Vinieron, pues, apresuradamente, y hallaron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.

17 A nd when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

Al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.

18 A nd all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

Todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.

19 B ut Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón.

20 A nd the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Los pastores se volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como se les había dicho. Presentación de Jesús en el Templo

21 A nd when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Cumplidos los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, le pusieron por nombre Jesús, el cual le había sido puesto por el ángel antes que fuera concebido.

22 A nd when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos conforme a la Ley de Moisés, lo trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor

23 ( as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

(como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: «Todo varón que abra la matriz será llamado santo al Señor»),

24 a nd to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

y para ofrecer conforme a lo que se dice en la Ley del Señor: «Un par de tórtolas o dos palominos».

25 A nd, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón. Este hombre, justo y piadoso, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.

26 A nd it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Y le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes que viera al Ungido del Señor.

27 A nd he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

Movido por el Espíritu, vino al Templo. Cuando los padres del niño Jesús lo trajeron al Templo para hacer por él conforme al rito de la Ley,

28 t hen took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

él lo tomó en sus brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:

29 L ord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

«Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz, conforme a tu palabra,

30 f or mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,

31 w hich thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

la cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos;

32 a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

luz para revelación a los gentiles y gloria de tu pueblo Israel».

33 A nd Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

José y su madre estaban maravillados de todo lo que se decía de él.

34 A nd Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

Los bendijo Simeón, y dijo a su madre María: —Éste está puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y para señal que será contradicha

35 ( yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

(y una espada traspasará tu misma alma), para que sean revelados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.

36 A nd there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad muy avanzada. Había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad,

37 a nd she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

y era viuda hacía ochenta y cuatro años; y no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.

38 A nd she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Ésta, presentándose en la misma hora, daba gracias a Dios y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalén. El regreso a Nazaret

39 A nd when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

Después de haber cumplido con todo lo prescrito en la Ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.

40 A nd the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

El niño crecía y se fortalecía, se llenaba de sabiduría y la gracia de Dios era sobre él. El niño Jesús en el Templo

41 N ow his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

Iban sus padres todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.

42 A nd when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

Cuando tuvo doce años, subieron a Jerusalén conforme a la costumbre de la Fiesta.

43 A nd when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

Al regresar ellos, acabada la Fiesta, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin que lo supieran José y su madre.

44 B ut they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

Pensando que estaba entre la compañía, anduvieron durante un día, y lo buscaban entre los parientes y los conocidos;

45 A nd when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

pero como no lo hallaron, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándolo.

46 A nd it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

Aconteció que tres días después lo hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los doctores de la Ley, oyéndolos y preguntándoles.

47 A nd all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

Y todos los que lo oían se maravillaban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas.

48 A nd when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

Cuando lo vieron, se sorprendieron. Su madre le dijo: —Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con angustia.

49 A nd he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

Entonces él les dijo: —¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me es necesario estar?

50 A nd they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

Pero ellos no entendieron lo que les dijo.

51 A nd he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Descendió con ellos y volvió a Nazaret, y les estaba sujeto. Su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.

52 A nd Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.
