1 G ive ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Escucha, pueblo mío, mi Ley; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Abriré mi boca en proverbios; hablaré cosas escondidas desde tiempos antiguos,

3 w hich we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

las cuales hemos oído y entendido, las que nuestros padres nos contaron.

4 W e will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

No las encubriremos a sus hijos, contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová, su potencia y las maravillas que hizo.

5 F or he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

Él estableció testimonio en Jacob y puso ley en Israel, la cual mandó a nuestros padres que la notificaran a sus hijos;

6 t hat the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

para que lo sepa la generación venidera, los hijos que nazcan; y los que se levanten lo cuenten a sus hijos,

7 t hat they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

a fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza y no se olviden de las obras de Dios; que guarden sus mandamientos

8 a nd might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

y no sean como sus padres, generación terca y rebelde; generación que no dispuso su corazón, ni cuyo espíritu fue fiel para con Dios.

9 T he children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

Los hijos de Efraín, arqueros muy diestros, volvieron las espaldas en el día de la batalla.

10 T hey kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

No guardaron el pacto de Dios ni quisieron andar en su Ley;

11 a nd forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

al contrario, se olvidaron de sus obras y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.

12 M arvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.

13 H e divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

Dividió el mar y los hizo pasar. Detuvo las aguas como en un montón.

14 I n the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

Los guió de día con nube y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.

15 H e clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

Hendió las peñas en el desierto y les dio a beber como de grandes abismos,

16 H e brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

pues sacó de la peña corrientes e hizo descender aguas como ríos.

17 A nd they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

Pero aun así, volvieron a pecar contra él, rebelándose contra el Altísimo en el desierto,

18 A nd they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

pues tentaron a Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida a su gusto.

19 Y ea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: «¿Podrá poner mesa en el desierto?

20 B ehold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

Él ha herido la peña, y brotaron aguas y torrentes inundaron la tierra. ¿Podrá dar también pan? ¿Dispondrá carne para su pueblo?»

21 T herefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

Y lo oyó Jehová y se indignó; se encendió el fuego contra Jacob y el furor subió contra Israel,

22 b ecause they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

por cuanto no le habían creído ni habían confiado en su salvación.

23 t hough he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

Sin embargo, mandó a las nubes de arriba, abrió las puertas de los cielos

24 a nd had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

e hizo llover sobre ellos maná, para que comieran, y les dio trigo de los cielos.

25 M an did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.

Pan de nobles comió el hombre; les envió comida hasta saciarlos.

26 H e caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

Movió el viento solano en el cielo, y trajo con su poder al viento del sur,

27 H e rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

e hizo llover sobre ellos carne, como polvo; como la arena del mar, aves que vuelan.

28 a nd he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

Las hizo caer en medio del campamento, alrededor de sus tiendas.

29 S o they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

Comieron y se saciaron; les cumplió, pues, su deseo.

30 t hey were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

No habían saciado aún su apetito, aún estaba la comida en su boca,

31 t he wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, e hizo morir a los más robustos de ellos y derribó a los escogidos de Israel.

32 F or all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

Con todo esto, volvieron a pecar y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.

33 T herefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

Por tanto, hizo acabar sus días como un soplo y sus años en tribulación.

34 W hen he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

Si los hacía morir, entonces buscaban a Dios; entonces se volvían solícitos en busca suya,

35 A nd they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

y se acordaban de que Dios era su refugio, que el Dios Altísimo era su redentor.

36 N evertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

Pero lo halagaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían,

37 F or their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él ni permanecieron firmes en su pacto.

38 B ut he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

Pero él, misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad y no los destruía; apartó muchas veces su ira y no despertó todo su enojo.

39 F or he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

Se acordó de que eran carne, soplo que va y no vuelve.

40 H ow oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

¡Cuántas veces en el desierto se rebelaron contra él, y lo enojaron en el yermo!

41 Y ea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

Y volvían, y tentaban a Dios, y provocaban al Santo de Israel.

42 T hey remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

No se acordaban de su mano, del día que los redimió de la angustia;

43 H ow he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

cuando manifestó en Egipto sus señales y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán.

44 a nd had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

Y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes, para que no bebieran.

45 H e sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

Envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban y ranas que los destruían.

46 H e gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

Dio también a la oruga sus frutos y sus labores a la langosta.

47 H e destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

Sus viñas destruyó con granizo y sus higuerales con escarcha.

48 H e gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

Entregó al granizo sus bestias y sus ganados a los rayos.

49 H e cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

Envió sobre ellos el ardor de su ira; enojo, indignación y angustia, ¡un ejército de ángeles destructores!

50 H e made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

Dispuso camino a su furor; no eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte, sino que los entregó a mortandad.

51 a nd smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

Hizo morir a todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de su fuerza en las tiendas de Cam.

52 b ut made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

Hizo salir a su pueblo como a ovejas y los llevó por el desierto como a un rebaño.

53 A nd he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

Los guió con seguridad, de modo que no tuvieran temor; y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.

54 A nd he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

Los trajo después a las fronteras de su tierra santa, a este monte que ganó con su mano derecha.

55 H e cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

Echó las naciones de delante de ellos; con cuerdas repartió sus tierras en heredad e hizo habitar en sus tiendas a las tribus de Israel.

56 Y et they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

Pero ellos tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo y no guardaron sus testimonios;

57 b ut turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

más bien, le dieron la espalda, rebelándose como sus padres; se torcieron como arco engañoso.

58 F or they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

Lo enojaron con sus lugares altos y lo provocaron a celo con sus imágenes de talla.

59 W hen God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

Lo oyó Dios y se enojó, y en gran manera aborreció a Israel.

60 s o that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

Dejó, por tanto, el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres.

61 a nd delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.

Entregó a cautiverio su poderío; su gloria, en manos del enemigo.

62 H e gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

Entregó también su pueblo a la espada y se irritó contra su heredad.

63 T he fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.

64 T heir priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.

65 T hen the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

Entonces despertó el Señor como quien duerme, como un valiente que grita excitado por el vino,

66 A nd he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

e hirió a sus enemigos por detrás; les dio perpetua afrenta.

67 M oreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

Desechó la casa de José y no escogió la tribu de Efraín,

68 b ut chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

sino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte Sión, al cual amó.

69 A nd he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

Edificó su santuario a manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.

70 H e chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

Eligió a David su siervo y lo tomó de los rebaños de ovejas;

71 f rom following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

de detrás de las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo, a Israel su heredad.

72 S o he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

Y los apacentó conforme a la integridad de su corazón; los pastoreó con la pericia de sus manos.
