1 A nd Jehovah said to Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.

Dijo Jehová a Samuel: ¿Hasta cuándo llorarás a Saúl, habiéndolo yo desechado para que no reine sobre Israel? Llena tu cuerno de aceite, y ven, te enviaré a Isaí de Belén, porque de sus hijos me he provisto de rey.

2 A nd Samuel said, How shall I go? if Saul hear, he will kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to Jehovah.

Y dijo Samuel: ¿Cómo iré? Si Saúl lo supiera, me mataría. Jehová respondió: Toma contigo una becerra de la vacada, y di: A ofrecer sacrificio a Jehová he venido.

3 A nd call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will tell thee what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

Y llama a Isaí al sacrificio, y yo te enseñaré lo que has de hacer; y me ungirás al que yo te dijere.

4 A nd Samuel did what Jehovah said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him, and said, Dost thou come peaceably?

Hizo, pues, Samuel como le dijo Jehová; y luego que él llegó a Belén, los ancianos de la ciudad salieron a recibirle con miedo, y dijeron: ¿Es pacífica tu venida?

5 A nd he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice to Jehovah. Hallow yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he hallowed Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

El respondió: Sí, vengo a ofrecer sacrificio a Jehová; santificaos, y venid conmigo al sacrificio. Y santificando él a Isaí y a sus hijos, los llamó al sacrificio.

6 A nd it came to pass when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely Jehovah's anointed is before him.

Y aconteció que cuando ellos vinieron, él vio a Eliab, y dijo: De cierto delante de Jehová está su ungido.

7 B ut Jehovah said to Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for it is not as man seeth; for man looketh upon the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh upon the heart.

Y Jehová respondió a Samuel: No mires a su parecer, ni a lo grande de su estatura, porque yo lo desecho; porque Jehová no mira lo que mira el hombre; pues el hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero Jehová mira el corazón.

8 T hen Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.

Entonces llamó Isaí a Abinadab, y lo hizo pasar delante de Samuel, el cual dijo: Tampoco a éste ha escogido Jehová.

9 T hen Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.

Hizo luego pasar Isaí a Sama. Y él dijo: Tampoco a éste ha elegido Jehová.

10 A nd Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, Jehovah has not chosen these.

E hizo pasar Isaí siete hijos suyos delante de Samuel; pero Samuel dijo a Isaí: Jehová no ha elegido a éstos.

11 A nd Samuel said to Jesse, Are these all the young men? And he said, There is yet the youngest remaining, and behold, he is feeding the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit at table till he come hither.

Entonces dijo Samuel a Isaí: ¿Son éstos todos tus hijos? Y él respondió: Queda aún el menor, que apacienta las ovejas. Y dijo Samuel a Isaí: Envía por él, porque no nos sentaremos a la mesa hasta que él venga aquí.

12 A nd he sent and brought him in. And he was ruddy, and besides of a lovely countenance and beautiful appearance. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.

Envió, pues, por él, y le hizo entrar; y era rubio, hermoso de ojos, y de buen parecer. Entonces Jehová dijo: Levántate y úngelo, porque éste es.

13 A nd Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Y Samuel tomó el cuerno del aceite, y lo ungió en medio de sus hermanos; y desde aquel día en adelante el Espíritu de Jehová vino sobre David. Se levantó luego Samuel, y se volvió a Ramá. David toca para Saúl

14 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him.

El Espíritu de Jehová se apartó de Saúl, y le atormentaba un espíritu malo de parte de Jehová.

15 A nd Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles thee.

Y los criados de Saúl le dijeron: He aquí ahora, un espíritu malo de parte de Dios te atormenta.

16 L et our lord now speak; thy servants are before thee: they shall seek out a man, a skilful player on a harp; and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

Diga, pues, nuestro señor a tus siervos que están delante de ti, que busquen a alguno que sepa tocar el arpa, para que cuando esté sobre ti el espíritu malo de parte de Dios, él toque con su mano, y tengas alivio.

17 A nd Saul said to his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

Y Saúl respondió a sus criados: Buscadme, pues, ahora alguno que toque bien, y traédmelo.

18 A nd one of the young men answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skilled in playing, and he is a valiant man and a man of war, and skilled in speech, and of good presence, and Jehovah is with him.

Entonces uno de los criados respondió diciendo: He aquí yo he visto a un hijo de Isaí de Belén, que sabe tocar, y es valiente y vigoroso y hombre de guerra, prudente en sus palabras, y hermoso, y Jehová está con él.

19 T hen Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, Send me David thy son, who is with the sheep.

Y Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí, diciendo: Envíame a David tu hijo, el que está con las ovejas.

20 A nd Jesse took an ass with bread, and a flask of wine, and a kid, and sent by David his son to Saul.

Y tomó Isaí un asno cargado de pan, una vasija de vino y un cabrito, y lo envió a Saúl por medio de David su hijo.

21 A nd David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour-bearer.

Y viniendo David a Saúl, estuvo delante de él; y él le amó mucho, y le hizo su paje de armas.

22 A nd Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he has found favour in my sight.

Y Saúl envió a decir a Isaí: Yo te ruego que esté David conmigo, pues ha hallado gracia en mis ojos.

23 A nd it came to pass, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; and Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Y cuando el espíritu malo de parte de Dios venía sobre Saúl, David tomaba el arpa y tocaba con su mano; y Saúl tenía alivio y estaba mejor, y el espíritu malo se apartaba de él.
