1 T hen answered Bildad the Shuhite,

Da antwortete Bildad von Suah und sprach:

2 H ow long will you say these things ? And how long shall the words of your mouth be as a mighty wind?

Wie lange willst du solches reden und sollen die Reden deines Mundes so einen stolzen Mut haben?

3 D oes God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?

Meinst du, daß Gott unrecht richte oder der Allmächtige das Recht verkehre?

4 I f your children have sinned against Him, then He has delivered them into the power of their transgression.

Haben deine Söhne vor ihm gesündigt, so hat er sie verstoßen um ihrer Missetat willen.

5 I f you will seek God diligently and make your supplication to the Almighty,

So du aber dich beizeiten zu Gott tust und zu dem Allmächtigen flehst,

6 T hen, if you are pure and upright, surely He will bestir Himself for you and make your righteous dwelling prosperous again.

und so du rein und fromm bist, so wird er aufwachen zu dir und wird wieder aufrichten deine Wohnung um deiner Gerechtigkeit willen;

7 A nd though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase.

und was du zuerst wenig gehabt hast, wird hernach gar sehr zunehmen.

8 F or inquire, I pray you, of the former age and apply yourself to that which their fathers have searched out,

Denn frage die vorigen Geschlechter und merke auf das, was ihr Väter erforscht haben;

9 F or we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow.

denn wir sind von gestern her und wissen nichts; unser Leben ist ein Schatten auf Erden.

10 S hall not teach you and tell you and utter words out of their hearts (the deepest part of their nature)?

Sie werden dich's lehren und dir sagen und ihre Rede aus ihrem Herzen hervorbringen:

11 C an the rush or papyrus grow up without marsh? Can the flag or reed grass grow without water?

"Kann auch ein Rohr aufwachsen, wo es nicht feucht steht? oder Schilf wachsen ohne Wasser?

12 W hile it is yet green, in flower, and not cut down, it withers before any other herb.

Sonst wenn's noch in der Blüte ist, ehe es abgehauen wird, verdorrt es vor allem Gras.

13 S o are the ways of all who forget God; and the hope of the godless shall perish.

So geht es allen denen, die Gottes vergessen; und die Hoffnung der Heuchler wird verloren sein.

14 F or his confidence breaks, and his trust is a spider’s web.

Denn seine Zuversicht vergeht, und seine Hoffnung ist eine Spinnwebe.

15 H e shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold fast to it, but it shall not last.

Er verläßt sich auf sein Haus, und wird doch nicht bestehen; er wird sich daran halten, aber doch nicht stehenbleiben.

16 H e is green before the sun, and his shoots go forth over his garden.

Er steht voll Saft im Sonnenschein, und seine Reiser wachsen hervor in seinem Garten.

17 h is roots are wrapped about the heap, and see their way among the rocks.

Seine Saat steht dick bei den Quellen und sein Haus auf Steinen.

18 B ut if snatches him from his property, it will forget and deny him, I have never seen you.

Wenn er ihn aber verschlingt von seiner Stätte, wird sie sich gegen ihn stellen, als kennte sie ihn nicht.

19 S ee, this is the joy of going the way! And from the dust others will spring up.

Siehe, das ist die Freude seines Wesens; und aus dem Staube werden andere wachsen."

20 B ehold, as surely as God will never uphold wrongdoers, He will never cast away a blameless man.

Darum siehe, daß Gott nicht verwirft die Frommen und erhält nicht die Hand der Boshaften,

21 H e will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with joyful shouting.

bis daß dein Mund voll Lachens werde und deine Lippen voll Jauchzens.

22 T hose who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tents of the wicked shall be no more.

Die dich aber hassen, werden zu Schanden werden, und der Gottlosen Hütte wird nicht bestehen.
