1 T herefore, now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.

So ist nun nichts Verdammliches an denen, die in Christo Jesu sind, die nicht nach dem Fleisch wandeln, sondern nach dem Geist.

2 F or the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed me from the law of sin and of death.

Denn das Gesetz des Geistes, der da lebendig macht in Christo Jesu, hat mich frei gemacht von dem Gesetz der Sünde und des Todes.

3 F or God has done what the Law could not do, being weakened by the flesh '> the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, condemned sin in the flesh '> subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice],

Denn was dem Gesetz unmöglich war (sintemal es durch das Fleisch geschwächt ward), das tat Gott und sandte seinen Sohn in der Gestalt des sündlichen Fleisches und der Sünde halben und verdammte die Sünde im Fleisch,

4 S o that the righteous and just requirement of the Law might be fully met in us who live and move not in the ways of the flesh but in the ways of the Spirit.

auf daß die Gerechtigkeit, vom Gesetz erfordert, in uns erfüllt würde, die wir nun nicht nach dem Fleische wandeln, sondern nach dem Geist.

5 F or those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the Spirit.

Denn die da fleischlich sind, die sind fleischlich gesinnt; die aber geistlich sind, die sind geistlich gesinnt.

6 N ow the mind of the flesh is death '> comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.

Aber fleischlich gesinnt sein ist der Tod, und geistlich gesinnt sein ist Leben und Friede.

7 b ecause the mind of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed it cannot.

Denn fleischlich gesinnt sein ist wie eine Feindschaft wider Gott, sintemal das Fleisch dem Gesetz Gottes nicht untertan ist; denn es vermag's auch nicht.

8 S o then those who are living the life of the flesh cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him.

Die aber fleischlich sind, können Gott nicht gefallen.

9 B ut you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells within you. But if anyone does not possess the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.

Ihr aber seid nicht fleischlich, sondern geistlich, so anders Gottes Geist in euch wohnt. Wer aber Christi Geist nicht hat, der ist nicht sein.

10 B ut if Christ lives in you, your body is dead by reason of sin and guilt, the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

So nun aber Christus in euch ist, so ist der Leib zwar tot um der Sünde willen, der Geist aber ist Leben um der Gerechtigkeit willen.

11 A nd if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you.

So nun der Geist des, der Jesum von den Toten auferweckt hat, in euch wohnt, so wird auch derselbe, der Christum von den Toten auferweckt hat, eure sterblichen Leiber lebendig machen um deswillen, daß sein Geist in euch wohnt.

12 S o then, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh, to live of the flesh.

So sind wir nun, liebe Brüder, Schuldner nicht dem Fleisch, daß wir nach dem Fleisch leben.

13 F or if you live according to the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the Spirit you are putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the deeds prompted by the body, you shall live forever.

Denn wo ihr nach dem Fleisch lebet, so werdet ihr sterben müssen; wo ihr aber durch den Geist des Fleisches Geschäfte tötet, so werdet ihr leben.

14 F or all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Denn welche der Geist Gottes treibt, die sind Gottes Kinder.

15 F or you have now received not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption in which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

Denn ihr habt nicht einen knechtischen Geist empfangen, daß ihr euch abermals fürchten müßtet; sondern ihr habt einen kindlichen Geist empfangen, durch welchen wir rufen: Abba, lieber Vater!

16 T he Spirit Himself testifies together with our own spirit, that we are children of God.

Derselbe Geist gibt Zeugnis unserem Geist, daß wir Kinder Gottes sind.

17 A nd if we are children, then we are heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.

Sind wir denn Kinder, so sind wir auch Erben, nämlich Gottes Erben und Miterben Christi, so wir anders mit leiden, auf daß wir auch mit zur Herrlichkeit erhoben werden.

18 F or I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!

Denn ich halte es dafür, daß dieser Zeit Leiden der Herrlichkeit nicht wert sei, die an uns soll offenbart werden.

19 F or creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known.

Denn das ängstliche Harren der Kreatur wartet auf die Offenbarung der Kinder Gottes.

20 F or the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it— with the hope

Sintemal die Kreatur unterworfen ist der Eitelkeit ohne ihren Willen, sondern um deswillen, der sie unterworfen hat, auf Hoffnung.

21 T hat nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

Denn auch die Kreatur wird frei werden vom Dienst des vergänglichen Wesens zu der herrlichen Freiheit der Kinder Gottes.

22 W e know that the whole creation has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now.

Denn wir wissen, daß alle Kreatur sehnt sich mit uns und ängstet sich noch immerdar.

23 A nd not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the Spirit groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies our adoption (our manifestation as God’s sons).

Nicht allein aber sie, sondern auch wir selbst, die wir haben des Geistes Erstlinge, sehnen uns auch bei uns selbst nach der Kindschaft und warten auf unsers Leibes Erlösung.

24 F or in hope we were saved. But hope which is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for what he already sees?

Denn wir sind wohl selig, doch in der Hoffnung. Die Hoffnung aber, die man sieht, ist nicht Hoffnung; denn wie kann man des hoffen, das man sieht?

25 B ut if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure.

So wir aber des hoffen, das wir nicht sehen, so warten wir sein durch Geduld.

26 S o too the Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.

Desgleichen auch der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit auf. Denn wir wissen nicht, was wir beten sollen, wie sich's gebührt; sondern der Geist selbst vertritt uns aufs beste mit unaussprechlichem Seufzen.

27 A nd He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes and pleads in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will.

Der aber die Herzen erforscht, der weiß, was des Geistes Sinn sei; denn er vertritt die Heiligen nach dem, das Gott gefällt.

28 W e are assured and know that '> God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are for good to and for those who love God and are called according to design and purpose.

Wir wissen aber, daß denen, die Gott lieben, alle Dinge zum Besten dienen, denen, die nach dem Vorsatz berufen sind.

29 F or those whom He foreknew '> aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning to be molded into the image of His Son, that He might become the firstborn among many brethren.

Denn welche er zuvor ersehen hat, die hat er auch verordnet, daß sie gleich sein sollten dem Ebenbilde seines Sohnes, auf daß derselbe der Erstgeborene sei unter vielen Brüdern.

30 A nd those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified (acquitted, made righteous, putting them into right standing with Himself). And those whom He justified, He also glorified.

Welche er aber verordnet hat, die hat er auch berufen; welche er aber berufen hat, die hat er auch gerecht gemacht, welche er aber hat gerecht gemacht, die hat er auch herrlich gemacht.

31 W hat then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who against us?

Was wollen wir nun hierzu sagen? Ist Gott für uns, wer mag wider uns sein?

32 H e who did not withhold or spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all things?

welcher auch seines eigenen Sohnes nicht hat verschont, sondern hat ihn für uns alle dahingegeben; wie sollte er uns mit ihm nicht alles schenken?

33 W ho shall bring any charge against God’s elect God Who justifies

Wer will die Auserwählten Gottes beschuldigen? Gott ist hier, der da gerecht macht.

34 W ho is there to condemn ? Will Christ Jesus (the Messiah), Who died, or rather Who was raised from the dead, Who is at the right hand of God actually pleading as He intercedes for us?

Wer will verdammen? Christus ist hier, der gestorben ist, ja vielmehr, der auch auferweckt ist, welcher ist zur Rechten Gottes und vertritt uns.

35 W ho shall ever separate us from Christ’s love? Shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or destitution or peril or sword?

Wer will uns scheiden von der Liebe Gottes? Trübsal oder Angst oder Verfolgung oder Hunger oder Blöße oder Fährlichkeit oder Schwert?

36 E ven as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter.

wie geschrieben steht: "Um deinetwillen werden wir getötet den ganzen Tag; wir sind geachtet wie Schlachtschafe."

37 Y et amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.

Aber in dem allem überwinden wir weit um deswillen, der uns geliebt hat.

38 F or I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers,

Denn ich bin gewiß, daß weder Tod noch Leben, weder Engel noch Fürstentümer noch Gewalten, weder Gegenwärtiges noch Zukünftiges,

39 N or height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

weder Hohes noch Tiefes noch keine andere Kreatur mag uns scheiden von der Liebe Gottes, die in Christo Jesu ist, unserm HERRN.
