1 T oda la tierra hablaba la misma lengua y las mismas palabras.

The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

2 S egún iban hacia el oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.

3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: “Vamos, fabriquemos ladrillos y cozámos los bien.” Y usaron ladrillo en lugar de piedra y asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

4 L uego dijeron: “Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue hasta los cielos, y hagámonos un nombre famoso, para que no seamos dispersados sobre la superficie de toda la tierra.”

They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

5 P ero el Señor descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que habían edificado los hijos de los hombres.

Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

6 Y dijo el Señor: “Son un solo pueblo y todos ellos tienen la misma lengua. Esto es lo que han comenzado a hacer, y ahora nada de lo que se propongan hacer les será imposible.

Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

7 V amos, bajemos y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el lenguaje del otro.”

Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

8 A sí el Señor los dispersó desde allí sobre la superficie de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

9 P or eso la ciudad fue llamada Babel (Babilonia), porque allí el Señor confundió la lengua de toda la tierra, y de allí el Señor los dispersó sobre la superficie de toda la tierra. Descendientes de Sem

Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.

32 L os días de Taré fueron 205 años. Y murió Taré en Harán.
