1 L os hombres vinieron de Quiriat Jearim, tomaron el arca del Señor y la llevaron a la casa de Abinadab en la colina, y consagraron a Eleazar su hijo para que guardara el arca del Señor.

The men of Kiriath Jearim came, and took Yahweh’s ark, and brought it into Abinadab’s house on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep Yahweh’s ark.

2 P ero pasó mucho tiempo, veinte años, desde el día en que el arca quedó en Quiriat Jearim; y toda la casa de Israel añoraba al Señor.

From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long; for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

3 E ntonces Samuel habló a toda la casa de Israel: “Si es que ustedes se vuelven al Señor con todo su corazón, entonces quiten de entre ustedes los dioses extranjeros y a Astarot, y dirijan su corazón al Señor, y sírvanle sólo a El; y El los librará de la mano de los Filisteos.”

Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

4 L os Israelitas quitaron a los Baales y a Astarot, y sirvieron sólo al Señor.

Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.

5 Y Samuel dijo: “Reúnan en Mizpa a todo Israel, y yo oraré al Señor por ustedes.”

Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to Yahweh for you.”

6 S e reunieron los Israelitas en Mizpa, y sacaron agua y la derramaron delante del Señor, ayunaron aquel día y dijeron allí: “Hemos pecado contra el Señor.” Y Samuel juzgó a los Israelitas en Mizpa.

They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

7 C uando los Filisteos oyeron que los Israelitas se habían reunido en Mizpa, los príncipes de los Filisteos subieron contra Israel. Cuando oyeron esto los Israelitas, tuvieron temor de los Filisteos.

When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

8 E ntonces los Israelitas dijeron a Samuel: “No dejes de clamar al Señor nuestro Dios por nosotros, para que El nos libre de la mano de los Filisteos.”

The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

9 T omó Samuel un cordero de leche y lo ofreció como completo holocausto al Señor; y clamó Samuel al Señor por Israel y el Señor le respondió.

Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh. Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him.

10 M ientras Samuel estaba ofreciendo el holocausto, los Filisteos se acercaron para pelear con Israel. Pero el Señor tronó con gran estruendo aquel día contra los Filisteos y los confundió, y fueron derrotados delante de Israel.

As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

11 S aliendo de Mizpa los hombres de Israel, persiguieron a los Filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta más allá de Bet Car. Derrota de los Filisteos

The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar.

12 E ntonces Samuel tomó una piedra y la colocó entre Mizpa y Sen, y la llamó Ebenezer (Piedra de Ayuda) y dijo: “Hasta aquí nos ha ayudado el Señor.”

Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

13 L os Filisteos fueron sometidos y no volvieron más dentro de los límites de Israel. Y la mano del Señor estuvo contra los Filisteos todos los días de Samuel.

So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. Yahweh’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

14 L as ciudades que los Filisteos habían tomado de Israel fueron restituidas a Israel, desde Ecrón hasta Gat, e Israel libró su territorio de la mano de los Filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y los Amorreos.

The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

15 S amuel juzgó a Israel todos los días de su vida.

Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16 C ada año acostumbraba hacer un recorrido por Betel, Gilgal y Mizpa, y juzgaba a Israel en todos estos lugares.

He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

17 D espués volvía a Ramá, pues allí estaba su casa, y allí juzgaba a Israel; y edificó allí un altar al Señor.

His return was to Ramah, for his house was there; and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to Yahweh there.
