1 E n el año doce de Acaz, rey de Judá, Oseas, hijo de Ela, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó nueve años.

In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.

2 H izo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no como los reyes de Israel que habían sido antes de él.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.

3 S ubió contra él Salmanasar, rey de Asiria, y Oseas fue hecho su siervo, y le pagaba tributo.

Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him, and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute.

4 P ero el rey de Asiria descubrió una conspiración de Oseas, quien había enviado mensajeros a So, rey de Egipto, y no había pagado tributo al rey de Asiria como había hecho año tras año. Por tanto el rey de Asiria lo detuvo y lo encadenó en la cárcel.

The king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria seized him, and bound him in prison.

5 E ntonces el rey de Asiria invadió todo el país y subió a Samaria, y le puso sitio por tres años.

Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

6 E n el año noveno de Oseas, el rey de Asiria tomó Samaria y se llevó a Israel al destierro en Asiria, y los puso en Halah y en Habor, río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los Medos.

In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

7 E sto sucedió porque los Israelitas habían pecado contra el Señor su Dios, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto de bajo la mano de Faraón, rey de Egipto, y habían reverenciado a otros dioses;

It was so because the children of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

8 y anduvieron en las costumbres de las naciones que el Señor había arrojado de delante de los Israelitas, y en las costumbres de los reyes de Israel que ellos habían introducido.

and walked in the statutes of the nations whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.

9 L os Israelitas secretamente hicieron cosas que no eran rectas contra el Señor su Dios. Además se edificaron lugares altos en todas sus ciudades, desde las torres de atalaya hasta las ciudades fortificadas.

The children of Israel secretly did things that were not right against Yahweh their God; and they built high places for themselves in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;

10 S e erigieron pilares sagrados y Aseras (deidades femeninas) sobre toda colina alta y bajo todo árbol frondoso.

and they set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill, and under every green tree;

11 Q uemaron incienso allí en todos los lugares altos, como las naciones que el Señor se había llevado al destierro de delante de ellos; e hicieron cosas malas provocando al Señor.

and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them did; and they did wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger;

12 Y sirvieron a ídolos, acerca de los cuales el Señor les había dicho: “Ustedes no harán esto.”

and they served idols, of which Yahweh had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”

13 E l Señor amonestaba a Israel y a Judá por medio de todos Sus profetas y de todo vidente, diciendo: “Vuélvanse de sus malos caminos y guarden Mis mandamientos, Mis estatutos conforme a toda la ley que ordené a sus padres y que les envié por medio de Mis siervos los profetas.”

Yet Yahweh testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

14 S in embargo, ellos no escucharon, sino que fueron tercos como sus padres, que no creyeron en el Señor su Dios.

Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in Yahweh their God.

15 D esecharon Sus estatutos y el pacto que El había hecho con sus padres, y Sus advertencias con las cuales los había amonestado. Siguieron la vanidad y se hicieron vanos, y fueron en pos de las naciones que los rodeaban, respecto de las cuales el Señor les había ordenado que no hicieran como ellas.

They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.

16 Y abandonaron todos los mandamientos del Señor su Dios, y se hicieron imágenes fundidas de dos becerros; hicieron una Asera (deidad femenina), adoraron a todo el ejército de los cielos y sirvieron a Baal.

They abandoned all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made molten images for themselves, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.

17 H icieron pasar por el fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas. Practicaron la adivinación y los encantamientos, y se entregaron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, provocándolo.

They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger.

18 Y el Señor se enojó en gran manera contra Israel y los quitó de su presencia. Sólo quedó la tribu de Judá.

Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

19 T ampoco Judá guardó los mandamientos del Señor su Dios, sino que anduvieron en las costumbres que Israel había introducido.

Also Judah didn’t keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

20 Y el Señor desechó a toda la descendencia de Israel, y los afligió y los entregó en mano de saqueadores, hasta que los echó de su presencia.

Yahweh rejected all the offspring of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hands of raiders, until he had cast them out of his sight.

21 C uando El arrancó a Israel de la casa de David, ellos hicieron rey a Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat. Entonces Jeroboam apartó a Israel de seguir al Señor, y les hizo cometer un gran pecado.

For he tore Israel from David’s house; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king; and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.

22 L os Israelitas anduvieron en todos los pecados que había cometido Jeroboam; no se apartaron de ellos,

The children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didn’t depart from them

23 h asta que el Señor quitó a Israel de Su presencia, como El había hablado por medio de todos Sus siervos los profetas. E Israel fue llevado de su propia tierra al destierro, a Asiria, hasta hoy.

until Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he said by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

24 E l rey de Asiria trajo hombres de Babilonia, de Cuta, de Ava, de Hamat y de Sefarvaim, y los puso en las ciudades de Samaria en lugar de los Israelitas. Y tomaron posesión de Samaria y habitaron en sus ciudades.

The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in its cities.

25 A l principio de habitar ellos allí, no temieron al Señor, así que el Señor envió leones entre ellos que mataron a muchos de ellos.

So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn’t fear Yahweh. Therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.

26 E ntonces hablaron al rey de Asiria: “Las naciones que ha llevado al destierro a las ciudades de Samaria, no conocen la costumbre del dios de la tierra; por eso él ha enviado leones entre ellos, y es la causa por la que los leones los matan porque ellos no conocen la costumbre del dios de la tierra.”

Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria don’t know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don’t know the law of the god of the land.”

27 Y el rey de Asiria ordenó: “Lleven allá a uno de los sacerdotes que ustedes llevaron al destierro, y que él vaya y habite allí; y que les enseñe la costumbre del dios de la tierra.”

Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”

28 Y vino uno de los sacerdotes que habían llevado al destierro desde Samaria, y habitó en Betel (Casa de Dios), y les enseñó cómo habían de temer al Señor.

So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

29 P ero cada nación continuó haciendo sus propios dioses, y los pusieron en las casas de los lugares altos que los Samaritanos habían hecho, cada nación en las ciudades en que habitaban.

However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.

30 Y los hombres de Babilonia hicieron a Sucot Benot; los hombres de Cuta hicieron a Nergal; los hombres de Hamat hicieron a Asima;

The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

31 y los Aveos hicieron a Nibhaz y a Tartac; y los de Sefarvaim quemaban a sus hijos en el fuego como ofrenda a Adramelec y Anamelec, dioses de Sefarvaim.

and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32 T ambién temían (reverenciaban) al Señor pero nombraron de entre sí sacerdotes de los lugares altos, que oficiaban por ellos en las casas de los lugares altos.

So they feared Yahweh, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

33 T emían al Señor pero servían a sus dioses conforme a la costumbre de las naciones de donde habían sido llevados al destierro.

They feared Yahweh, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

34 H asta el día de hoy siguen haciendo conforme a sus antiguas costumbres. No temen (reverencian) al Señor, ni siguen sus estatutos ni sus ordenanzas ni la ley ni el mandamiento que el Señor había ordenado a los hijos de Jacob, a quien puso el nombre de Israel,

To this day they do what they did before. They don’t fear Yahweh, and they do not follow the statutes, or the ordinances, or the law, or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

35 c on los cuales el Señor hizo un pacto y les ordenó: “No temerán (reverenciarán) a otros dioses ni se inclinarán ante ellos, no los servirán ni les ofrecerán sacrificios.

with whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;

36 S ino que al Señor, que los hizo subir de la tierra de Egipto con gran poder y con brazo extendido, a El temerán (reverenciarán) y ante El se inclinarán y a El ofrecerán sacrificios.

but you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.

37 Y los estatutos, las ordenanzas, la ley y el mandamiento que El les escribió, cuidarán de cumplir los siempre, y no temerán a otros dioses.

The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forever more. You shall not fear other gods.

38 Y el pacto que he hecho con ustedes, no lo olvidarán, ni temerán a otros dioses.

You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods.

39 S ino que al Señor su Dios temerán, y El los librará de mano de todos sus enemigos.”

But you shall fear Yahweh your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”

40 P ero ellos no escucharon, sino que hicieron conforme a su antigua costumbre.

However they did not listen, but they did what they did before.

41 Y aunque estas naciones temían al Señor, también servían a sus ídolos; y de la misma manera que hicieron sus padres, así hacen hasta hoy sus hijos y sus nietos.

So these nations feared Yahweh, and also served their engraved images. Their children likewise, and their children’s children, as their fathers did, so they do to this day.
