1 N ow Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

А Сара, Аврамова жінка, не родила йому. І в неї була єгиптянка невільниця, а ймення їй Аґар.

2 A nd Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

І сказала Сара Аврамові: Ось Господь затримав мене від породу. Прийди ж до моєї невільниці, може від неї одержу я сина. І послухався Аврам голосу Сари.

3 A nd Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

І взяла Сара, Аврамова жінка, єгиптянку Аґар, свою невільницю, по десяти літах перебування Аврамового в землі ханаанській, і дала її Аврамові, чоловікові своєму, за жінку.

4 A nd he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

І він увійшов до Аґари, і вона зачала. Як вона ж побачила, що зачала, то стала легковажити господиню свою.

5 A nd Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee.

І сказала Сара Аврамові: Моя кривда на тобі! Я дала була свою невільницю до лоня твого, а як вона побачила, що зачала, то стала легковажити мене. Нехай розсудить Господь поміж мною та поміж тобою!

6 B ut Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thine hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

І промовив Аврам до Сари: Таж невільниця твоя в руці твоїй! Зроби їй те, що вгодне в очах твоїх. І Сара гнобила її. І втекла Аґар від обличчя її.

7 A nd the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

І знайшов її Ангол Господній біля джерела води на пустині, біля джерела на дорозі до Шур,

8 A nd he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

і сказав: Аґаро, Сарина невільнице, звідки ж то прийшла ти, і куди ти йдеш? Та відказала: Я втікаю від обличчя Сари, пані моєї.

9 A nd the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

А Ангол Господній промовив до неї: Вернися до пані своєї, і терпи під руками її!

10 A nd the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

І Ангол Господній промовив до неї: Сильно розмножу потомство твоє, і через безліч буде воно незліченне.

11 A nd the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.

І Ангол Господній до неї сказав: Ось ти зачала, і сина породиш, і назвеш ім'я йому Ізмаїл, бо прислухавсь Господь до твоєї недолі.

12 A nd he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

А він буде як дикий осел між людьми, рука його на всіх, а рука всіх на нього. І буде він жити при всіх своїх браттях.

13 A nd she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

І назвала вона Ймення Господа, що мовив до неї: Ти Бог видіння! Бо сказала вона: Чи й тут я дивилась на Того, Хто бачить мене?

14 W herefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

Тому джерело було назване Джерело Живого, Хто бачить мене, воно поміж Кадешем та поміж Баредом.

15 A nd Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

І вродила Аґар Аврамові сина, а Аврам назвав ім'я свого сина, що вродила Аґар: Ізмаїл.

16 A nd Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.

А Аврам був віку восьмидесяти літ і шести літ, коли Аґар вродила була Аврамові Ізмаїла.
