1 ¶ Hijo mío, si tomares mis palabras, y mis mandamientos guardares dentro de ti,

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2 h aciendo estar atento tu oído a la sabiduría; si inclinares tu corazón a la inteligencia;

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3 s i clamares por entendimiento, y a la inteligencia dieres tu voz;

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4 s i como a la plata la buscares, y la escudriñares como a tesoros;

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5 e ntonces entenderás el temor del SEÑOR, y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios.

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6 P orque el SEÑOR da la sabiduría, y de su boca viene el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

7 E l guarda el ser a los rectos; es escudo a los que caminan perfectamente,

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

8 g uardando las veredas del juicio, y el camino de sus misericordiosos.

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

9 E ntonces entenderás justicia, juicio, y equidad, y todo buen camino.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

10 ¶ Cuando la sabiduría entrare en tu corazón, y la ciencia fuere dulce a tu alma,

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

11 e l consejo te guardará, te preservará la inteligencia,

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

12 p ara librarte del mal camino, del hombre que habla perversidades;

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

13 q ue dejan las veredas derechas, por andar por caminos tenebrosos;

Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

14 q ue se alegran haciendo mal, que se huelgan en malas perversidades;

Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

15 c uyas veredas son torcidas, y ellos torcidos en sus caminos.

Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

16 P ara librarte de la mujer extraña, de la ajena que halaga con sus palabras;

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

17 q ue desampara el príncipe de su juventud, y se olvida del pacto de su Dios.

Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

18 P or lo cual su casa está inclinada a la muerte, y sus veredas van hacia los muertos.

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

19 T odos los que a ella entraren, no volverán, ni tomarán las veredas de la vida.

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

20 P ara que andes por el camino de los buenos, y guardes las veredas de los justos.

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

21 P orque los rectos habitarán la tierra, y los perfectos permanecerán en ella;

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

22 m as los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, y los prevaricadores serán de ella desarraigados.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
