1 ¶ Porque este Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, el cual salió a recibir a Abraham que volvía de la matanza de los reyes, y le bendijo,

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 a l cual asimismo dio Abraham la décima parte de todo, primeramente él se interpreta Rey de justicia; y luego también Rey de Salem, que es, Rey de paz;

To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 s in padre, sin madre, sin linaje; que ni tiene principio de días, ni fin de vida, mas hecho semejante al Hijo de Dios, se queda Sacerdote eternalmente.

Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4 M irad, pues, cuán grande sea éste, al cual aun Abraham el patriarca haya dado la décima parte de los despojos.

Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 Q ue ciertamente los que de los hijos de Leví toman el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la Ley, es a saber, de sus hermanos aunque también ellos hayan salido de los lomos de Abraham.

And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6 M as aquel cuya genealogía no es contada en ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 Q ue sin contradicción alguna, lo que es menos es bendecido de lo que es más.

And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 D el mismo modo, aquí ciertamente los hombres mortales toman los diezmos; mas allí, aquel los tomó del cual está dado testimonio que vive;

And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9 y , (por decir, así) en Abraham pagó diezmos también el mismo Leví, que recibe los diezmos;

And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 p orque aún Leví estaba en los lomos de su padre, cuando Melquisedec salió a recibirle.

For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 ¶ Pues si la perfección era por el sacerdocio levítico (porque bajo él recibió el pueblo la Ley) ¿qué necesidad había aún de que se levantara otro sacerdote según el orden de Melquisedec, y que no fuera llamado según el orden de Aarón?

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 P ues traspasado el sacerdocio, necesario es que se haga también traspasamiento de la Ley.

For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13 P orque aquel del cual esto se dice, de otra tribu es, de la cual nadie presidió el altar.

For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14 P orque manifiesto es que el Señor nuestro nació de la tribu de Judá, de la cual nada habló Moisés tocante al sacerdocio.

For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 Y aún más manifiesto es, si se levanta otro Sacerdote que sea semejante a Melquisedec;

And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16 e l cual no es hecho conforme a la ley del mandamiento carnal, sino por virtud de vida indisoluble;

Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17 p orque el testimonio es de esta manera: Que tú eres Sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.

For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18 E l mandamiento precedente, cierto queda abolido por su flaqueza e inutilidad;

For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19 p orque nada perfeccionó la ley, sino la introducción de una mejor esperanza (por la cual nos acercamos a Dios.)

For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20 Y tanto más en cuanto no es sin juramento,

And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21 p orque los otros ciertamente sin juramento fueron hechos sacerdotes; mas éste, con juramento por el que le dijo: Juró el Señor, y no se arrepentirá, que Tú eres sacerdote para siempre según el orden de Melquisedec.

(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22 T anto de mejor testamento es hecho prometedor Jesús.

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23 Y , los otros, cierto, fueron muchos sacerdotes en cuanto por la muerte no podían permanecer;

And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24 m as éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene el sacerdocio intransferible;

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 p or lo cual puede también salvar eternamente a los que por él se allegan a Dios, viviendo siempre para rogar por ellos.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26 P orque tal Sumo Sacerdote nos convenía tener: Santo, inocente, limpio, apartado de los pecadores, y hecho más sublime que los cielos.

For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27 Q ue no tiene necesidad cada día, como los otros sacerdotes, de ofrecer sacrificios primero por sus pecados, y luego por los del pueblo, porque esto lo hizo UNA VEZ ofreciéndose a sí mismo.

Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28 P orque la ley constituye sacerdotes a hombres débiles; mas la palabra del juramento después de la ley, al Hijo, hecho perfecto eternalmente.

For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
