1 Y Salomón hizo parentesco con el Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó por mujer a la hija de Faraón, y la trajo a la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa del SEÑOR, y los muros de Jerusalén alrededor.

And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2 H asta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los lugares altos; porque aún no había casa edificada al nombre del SEÑOR hasta aquellos tiempos.

Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the Lord, until those days.

3 M as Salomón amó al SEÑOR, andando en los estatutos de su padre David; solamente sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los lugares altos.

And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

4 E iba el rey a Gabaón, porque aquel era el lugar alto principal, y sacrificaba allí, mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.

And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

5 ¶ Y se le apareció el SEÑOR a Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y le dijo Dios: Pide lo que quisieres que yo te dé.

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

6 Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia a tu siervo David mi padre, según la manera que él anduvo delante de ti con verdad, con justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo; y tú le has guardado ésta tu grande misericordia, que le diste hijo que se sentara en su trono, como sucede en este día.

And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

7 A hora pues, SEÑOR Dios mío, tú me has puesto a mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre; y yo soy muy joven, que no sé cómo entrar ni salir.

And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

8 Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual tú elegiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar ni numerar por su multitud.

And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

9 D a pues a tu siervo corazón dócil para juzgar a tu pueblo, para que pueda discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo; porque ¿quién podrá gobernar éste tu pueblo tan grande?

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

10 Y agradó delante del Señor que Salomón pidiera esto.

And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

11 Y le dijo Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, mas demandaste para ti entendimiento para oír juicio;

And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

12 h e aquí lo he hecho conforme a tus palabras; he aquí que te he dado corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no ha habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú.

Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

13 Y aun también te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria; tal, que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.

And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

14 Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, yo alargaré tus días.

And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

15 Y cuando Salomón despertó, vio que era sueño; y vino a Jerusalén, y se presentó delante del arca del pacto del SEÑOR, y sacrificó holocaustos, e hizo pacíficos; hizo también banquete a todos sus siervos.

And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

16 ¶ En aquella sazón vinieron dos mujeres rameras al rey, y se presentaron delante de él.

Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17 Y dijo una mujer: ¡Ruego, señor mío! Yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa, y yo di a luz estando con ella en la casa.

And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 Y aconteció al tercer día después que yo di a luz, que ésta dio a luz también, y morábamos nosotras juntas; ningún extraño estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en la casa.

And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

19 Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.

And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

20 Y se levantó a medianoche, y tomó a mi hijo de junto a mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y lo puso a su lado, y me puso a mi lado su hijo muerto.

And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21 Y cuando yo me levanté por la mañana para dar el pecho a mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto; mas le observé a la luz del día, y vi que no era mi hijo, que yo había dado a luz.

And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

22 E ntonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió a decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey.

And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

23 E l rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto; y la otra dice: No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive.

Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

24 E ntonces dijo el rey: Traedme una espada. Y trajeron al rey una espada.

And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

25 Y el rey dijo: Partid por en medio al niño vivo, y dad la mitad a la una, y la otra mitad a la otra.

And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

26 E ntonces la mujer de quien era el hijo vivo, habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y dijo: ¡Ruego, señor mío! Dad a ésta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. Mas la otra dijo: Ni a mí ni a ti; sino partidlo.

Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

27 E ntonces el rey respondió, y dijo: Dad a aquella el hijo vivo, y no lo matéis: ella es su madre.

Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

28 Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había juzgado el rey; y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar.

And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
