1 A nd after five days came down the high priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator called Tertullus, and laid their informations against Paul before the governor.

După cinci zile, a venit marele preot Anania cu unii din bătrîni şi cu un vorbitor, numit Tertul. Au adus înaintea dregătorului plîngere împotriva lui Pavel.

2 A nd he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, Seeing we enjoy great peace through thee, and that excellent measures are executed for this nation by thy forethought,

Pavel a fost chemat, şi Tertul a început să -l pîrască astfel:,, Prea alesule Felix, tu ne faci să ne bucurăm de o pace mare; şi neamul acesta a căpătat îmbunătăţiri sănătoase prin îngrijirile tale.

3 w e receive always and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

Lucrul acesta îl mărturisim cu toată mulţămita, în toată vremea şi în tot locul.

4 B ut that I may not too much intrude on thy time, I beseech thee to hear us briefly in thy kindness.

Dar, ca să nu te ţin prea mult, te rog să asculţi, în bunătatea ta, cîteva cuvinte.

5 F or finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans;

Am găsit pe omul acesta, care este o ciumă: pune la cale răzvrătiri printre toţi Iudeii de pe tot pămîntul, este mai marele partidei Nazarinenilor,

6 w ho also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law;

şi a cercat să spurce chiar şi Templul. Şi am pus mînă pe el. Am vrut să -l judecăm după Legea noastră:

7 b ut Lysias, the chiliarch, coming up, took away with great force out of our hands,

dar a venit căpitanul Lisias, l -a smuls din mînile noastre cu mare silă,

8 h aving commanded his accusers to come to thee;] of whom thou canst thyself, in examining, know the certainty of all these things of which we accuse him.

şi a poruncit pîrîşilor lui să vină înaintea ta. Dacă -l vei cerceta, tu însuţi vei putea afla de la el toate lucrurile de cari îl pîrîm noi.``

9 A nd the Jews also joined in pressing the matter against, saying that these things were so.

Iudeii s'au unit la învinuirea aceasta, şi au spus că aşa stau lucrurile.

10 B ut Paul, the governor having beckoned to him to speak, answered, Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge to this nation, I answer readily as to the things which concern myself.

După ce i -a făcut dregătorul semn să vorbească, Pavel a răspuns:,, Fiindcă ştiu că de mulţi ani eşti judecătorul neamului acestuia, voi răspunde cu încredere pentru apărarea mea.

11 A s thou mayest know that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem,

Nu sînt mai mult de douăsprezece zile, -te poţi încredinţa de lucrul acesta-de cînd m'am suit să mă închin la Ierusalim.

12 a nd neither in the temple did they find me discoursing to any one, or making any tumultuous gathering together of the crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;

Nu m'au găsit nici în Templu, nici în sinagogi, nici în cetate, stînd de vorbă cu cineva, sau făcînd răscoală de norod.

13 n either can they make good the things of which they now accuse me.

Aşa că n'ar putea dovedi lucrurile de cari mă pîrăsc acum.

14 B ut this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers' God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets;

Îţi mărturisesc că slujesc Dumnezeului părinţilor mei după Calea, pe care ei o numesc partidă; eu cred tot ce este scris în Lege şi în Prooroci,

15 h aving hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust.

şi am în Dumnezeu nădejdea aceasta, pe care o au şi ei înşişi, că va fi o înviere a celor drepţi şi a celor nedrepţi.

16 F or this cause I also exercise to have in everything a conscience without offence towards God and men.

De aceea mă silesc să am totdeauna un cuget curat înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.

17 A nd after a lapse of many years I arrived, bringing alms to my nation, and offerings.

După o lipsă de mai mulţi ani, am venit să aduc milostenii neamului meu, şi să aduc daruri la Templu.

18 W hereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,

Tocmai atunci nişte Iudei din Asia m'au găsit curăţit în Templu, nu cu gloată, nici cu zarvă.

19 w ho ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me;

Ei înşişi ar trebui să se înfăţişeze înaintea ta, şi să mă pîrască, dacă au ceva împotriva mea.

20 o r let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,

Sau să spună aceştia singuri de ce nelegiuire m'au găsit vinovat, cînd am stat înaintea Soborului,

21 t han concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching resurrection of dead.

afară numai doar de strigătul acesta, pe care l-am scos în mijlocul lor:, Pentru învierea morţilor sînt dat eu în judecată astăzi înaintea voastră.``

22 A nd Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;

Felix, care ştia destul de bine despre,, Calea`` aceasta, i -a amînat zicînd:,, Am să cercetez pricina voastră cînd ca veni căpitanul Lisias.``

23 o rdering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him.

Şi a poruncit sutaşului să păzească pe Pavel, dar să -l lase puţin mai slobod, şi să nu oprească pe nimeni din ai lui să -i slujească sau să vină la el.

24 A nd after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

După cîteva zile, a venit Felix cu nevastă-sa Drusila, care era Iudeică; a chemat pe Pavel, şi l -a ascultat despre credinţa în Hristos Isus.

25 A nd as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee;

Dar, pe cînd vorbea Pavel despre neprihănire, despre înfrînare şi despre judecata viitoare, Felix, îngrozit, a zis:,, De astădată, du-te; cînd voi mai avea prilej, te voi chema.``

26 h oping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him.

Totodată el trăgea nădejde că Pavel are să -i dea bani; de aceea trimetea şi mai des să -l cheme, ca să stea de vorbă cu el.

27 B ut when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound.

Doi ani au trecut astfel; şi în locul lui Felix, a venit Porcius Festus. Felix a vrut să facă pe placul Iudeilor, şi a lăsat pe Pavel în temniţă.
