1 A nd after five days came down the high priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator called Tertullus, and laid their informations against Paul before the governor.

وَبَعدَ خَمسَةِ أيّامٍ نَزَلَ رَئِيسُ الكَهَنَةِ حَنانِيّا إلَى قَيصَرِيَّةَ مَعَ بَعضِ الشُّيُوخِ وَمُحامٍ اسْمُهُ تَرْتُلُّسَ. فَعَرَضُوا تُهَمَهُمْ ضِدَّ بُولُسَ أمامَ الوالِي.

2 A nd he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, Seeing we enjoy great peace through thee, and that excellent measures are executed for this nation by thy forethought,

وَعِندَما استُدعِيَ بُولُسُ، بَدَأ تَرْتُلُّسُ يُقَدِّمُ التُّهَمَ أمامَ فِيلِكْسَ فَقالَ: «إنَّنا نَتَمَتَّعُ بِقِسطٍ وافِرٍ مِنَ السَّلامِ بِسَبَبِكَ، وَالإصلاحاتُ الَّتِي أُدخِلَتْ مِنْ أجلِ هَذا الشَّعبِ كانَتْ بِفَضلِ بُعدِ نَظَرِكَ.

3 w e receive always and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

نَحنُ نُرَحِّبُ بِهَذا يا صاحِبَ السَّعادَةِ فِيلِكسَ، بِكُلِّ طَرِيقَةٍ وَفِي كُلِّ مَكانٍ، وَكُلِّ امتِنانٍ.

4 B ut that I may not too much intrude on thy time, I beseech thee to hear us briefly in thy kindness.

لَكِنْ لِئَلّا أُثقِلَ عَلَيكَ أكثَرَ، فَإنِّي أرجُو أنْ تَتَلَطَّفَ بِالاستِماعِ إلَى كَلِمَتِي المُوجَزَةَ.

5 F or finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans;

فَقَدْ وَجَدنا هَذا الرَّجُلَ مَصدَرَ إزعاجٍ. وَهُوَ يُثِيرُ الشَّغَبَ بَينَ اليَهُودِ فِي كُلِّ أنحاءِ العالَمِ. وَهُوَ مِنْ قادَةِ مَذهَبِ النّاصِرِيِّينَ.

6 w ho also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law;

كَما أنَّهُ حاوَلَ أنْ يُنَجِّسَ الهَيكَلَ، لَكِنَّنا أمسَكنا بِهِ، وَأرَدْنا أنْ نُحاكِمَهُ بِحَسَبِ شَريعَتِنا.

7 b ut Lysias, the chiliarch, coming up, took away with great force out of our hands,

لَكِنَّ الآمِرَ لِيسياسَ جاءَ وَانتَزَعَهُ مِنْ أيْدينا بِقُوَّةٍ،

8 h aving commanded his accusers to come to thee;] of whom thou canst thyself, in examining, know the certainty of all these things of which we accuse him.

وَأمَرَ المُشتَكينَ عَليهِ بَأنْ يَأتوا إليكَ. فَحِينَ تُحَقِّقُ مَعَهُ بِنَفسِكَ، سَتَعلَمُ مِنهُ كُلَّ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي نَتَّهِمُهُ بِها.»

9 A nd the Jews also joined in pressing the matter against, saying that these things were so.

وَانضَمَّ إلَيهِ اليَهُودُ فِي تَوجِيهِ الاتِّهاماتِ، مُؤَكِّدِينَ أنَّ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الاتِّهاماتِ صَحِيحَةٌ. بُولُسُ يُدافِعُ عَنْ نَفسِهِ أمامَ فِيلِكس

10 B ut Paul, the governor having beckoned to him to speak, answered, Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge to this nation, I answer readily as to the things which concern myself.

فَلَمّا أشارَ الوالِي لِبُولُسَ أنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ قالَ: «أنا أعرِفُ أنَّكَ قاضٍ لِهَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ مُنذُ سَنَواتٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، لِذَلِكَ يَسُرُّنِي أنْ أُدافِعَ عَنْ نَفسِي أمامَكَ.

11 A s thou mayest know that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem,

وَيُمكِنُكَ أنْ تَتَحَقَّقَ مِنْ صِحَّةِ ما أقُولُ. لَمْ يَمضِ عَلَى ذَهابِي إلَى القُدسِ لِلعِبادَةِ أكثَرُ مِنِ اثنَي عَشَرَ يَوماً.

12 a nd neither in the temple did they find me discoursing to any one, or making any tumultuous gathering together of the crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;

وَلَمْ يَجِدُونِي أُجادِلُ أحَداً فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ. وَلا وَجَدُونِي أُهَيِّجُ النّاسَ لا فِي المَجامِعِ وَلا فِي أيِّ مَكانٍ آخَرَ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ.

13 n either can they make good the things of which they now accuse me.

وَهُمْ لا يَقدِرُونَ أنْ يُثبِتُوا لَكَ صِحَّةَ الاتِّهاماتِ الَّتِي يُوَجِّهُونَها ضِدِّي.

14 B ut this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers' God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets;

«غَيرَ أنِّي أعتَرِفُ لَكَ بِأنِّي أعبُدُ إلَهَ آبائِنا حَسَبَ «الطَّرِيقِ» الَّذِي يَعتَبِرونَهُ هَرطَقَةً. وَأنا أُومِنُ بِكُلِّ ما تَقُولُهُ الشَّرِيعَةُ وَما هُوَ مَكتُوبٌ فِي كُتُبِ الأنبِياءِ.

15 h aving hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust.

وَأنا أشتَرِكُ مَعَ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالِ أنفُسِهِمْ فِي الرَّجاءِ بِاللهِ. وَهَذا الرَّجاءُ هُوَ أنَّهُ سَتَكُونُ هُناكَ قِيامَةٌ لِلصّالِحِينَ وَالأشرارِ مَعاً.

16 F or this cause I also exercise to have in everything a conscience without offence towards God and men.

وَلِهَذا فَإنِّي أُدَرِّبُ نَفسِي دائِماً لِيَكُونَ ضَمِيرِي بِلا لَومٍ أمامَ اللهِ وَالنّاسِ.

17 A nd after a lapse of many years I arrived, bringing alms to my nation, and offerings.

«فَبَعدَ غِيابِ عِدَّةِ سَنَواتٍ، رَجِعتُ إلَى القُدسِ لِأُحضِرَ تَبَرُّعاتٍ لِلفُقَراءَ مِنْ جَماعَتِي، وَلِأُقَدِّمَ تَقدِماتٍ للهِ.

18 W hereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,

وَبَينَما كُنتُ أفعَلُ هَذا، وَجَدُونِي فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ أُكمِلُ طَقسَ التَّطهِيرِ. وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ جَمعٌ وَلا حَدَثَ شَغَبٌ.

19 w ho ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me;

بَلْ كانَ بَعضُ اليَهُودِ مِنْ أسِيّا مَوجُودِينَ هُناكَ. أُولَئِكَ يَنبَغِي أنْ يَأتُوا إلَيكَ، وَيُقَدِّمُوا اتِّهامَهُمْ، إنْ كانَ لَدَيهِمْ شَيءٌ ضِدِّي.

20 o r let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,

أوْ لِيَتَحَدَّثْ هَؤُلاءِ الحاضِرُونَ هُنا عَنْ أيَّةِ جَرِيمَةٍ أثبَتُوها عَلَيَّ عِندَما وَقَفتُ أمامَ المَجلِسِ اليَهُودِيِّ.

21 t han concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching resurrection of dead.

رُبَّما اعتَبَرُونِي مُذنِباً بِسَبَبِ الجُملَةِ الوَحِيدَةِ الَّتِي قُلْتُها هُناكَ عَلَى مَسمَعٍ مِنهُمْ. فَقَدْ قُلْتُ: ‹أنتُمْ تُحاكِمُونَنِي اليَومَ عَلَى أساسِ إيمانِي بِقِيامَةِ الأمواتِ.›»

22 A nd Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;

ثُمَّ قَرَّرَ فِيلِكسُ الَّذِي كانَ مُطَّلِعاً اطِّلاعاً جَيِّداً عَلَى «الطَّرِيقِ،» أنْ يُؤَجِّلَ الجَلسَةَ، وَقالَ: «حِينَ يَأتِي الآمِرُ لِيسْياسُ، سَأبِتُّ فِي قَضِيَّتِكَ.»

23 o rdering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him.

وَأمَرَ الضّابِطَ بِأنْ يُبقِيَهُ تَحتَ الحِراسَةِ مَعَ مَنحِهِ بَعضَ الحُرِّيَّةِ. كَما أمَرَهُ بِأنْ لا يُمنَعَ أصدِقاءُ بُولُسَ مِنَ الاهتِمامِ بِحاجاتِهِ. بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ إلَى فِيلِكسَ وَزَوجَتِه

24 A nd after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

وَبَعدَ عِدَّةِ أيّامٍ جاءَ فِيلِكسُ وَمَعَهُ زَوجَتُهُ دُرُوسِّلا. وَكانَتْ زَوجَتُهُ يَهُودِيَّةً. فَاسْتُدْعِيَ بُولُسُ، وَاستَمَعَ فِيلِكسُ إلَيهِ وَهُوَ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنْ إيمانِهِ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ.

25 A nd as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee;

لَكِنْ بَينَما كانَ بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنِ البِرِّ وَضَبطِ النَّفسِ وَالدَّينُونَةِ الآتِيَةِ، خافَ فِيلِكسُ وَقالَ لِبُولُسَ: «انصَرِفِ الآنَ، وَحِينَ تُتاحُ لِي فُرصَةٌ سَأستَدعِيكَ.»

26 h oping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him.

وَكانَ فِي الوَقتِ نَفسِهِ يَأْمَلُ أنْ يُعطِيَهُ بُولُسُ رِشْوَةً مالِيَّةً. فَكانَ يَستَدعِيهِ كَثِيراً وَيَتَحَدَّثُ إلَيهِ.

27 B ut when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound.

وَبَعدَ مُرُورِ عامَينِ، خَلَفَهُ بُورْكيُوسَ فِسْتُوسَ والِياً. وَتَرَكَ فِيلِكسُ بُولُسَ مَسجُوناً، لِأنَّهُ كانَ يُرِيدُ أنْ يُرضِيَ اليَهُودَ.
