1 W oe to them that are at ease in Zion and that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the renowned of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come.

وَيلٌ لَكمْ أيُّها المُستَرِيحُونَ فِي صِهْيَوْنَ، المُطمَئِنُّونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ السّامِرَةِ، يا أهَمَّ وُجَهاءِ الأُمَمِ، الَّذِينَ تَأتِي إلَيْهِمْ عائِلَةُ إسْرائِيلَ طَلَباً لِلعَونِ.

2 P ass unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go to Hamath the great; and go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

اعبُرُوا إلَى كَلْنَةَ وَانظُرُوا، ثُمَّ اذهَبُوا إلَى مَدِينَةِ حَماةَ العَظِيمَةِ، ثُمَّ انْزِلُوا إلَى جَتِّ الفَلَسطِيِّينَ. هَلْ أنتُمْ أفضَلُ مِنْ تِلكَ المَمالِكِ؟ أمْ إنَّ أملاكَكُمْ أوسَعُ مِنْ أملاكِهِمْ؟

3 Y e that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

أنتُمْ تَسْتَبْعِدُونَ يَومَ العِقابِ، تَجلِسُونَ بِلا حِراكٍ فَتُقَرِّبُونَ أيّامَ حُكمِ العُنفِ.

4 t hat lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves from the midst of the stall;

وَيلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَنامُونَ عَلَى أسِرَّةٍ مُزَيَّنَةٍ بِالعاجِ، وَيَأكُلُونَ أفضَلَ الحِملانِ، وَالعُجُولَ المُسَمَّنَةَ.

5 t hat chant to the sound of the lute, invent them instruments of music, like David;

وَيلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يُغَنُّونَ عَلَى أنغامِ القِيثارَةِ، وَكَداوُدَ يُؤَلِّفُونَ تَرانِيمَ لِيُرَنِّمُوها عَلَى الآلاتِ المُوسِيقِيَّةِ.

6 t hat drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments; but are not grieved for the breach of Joseph.

ويلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَشرَبُونَ مِنْ أقداحِ الخَمرِ، وَيَمسَحُونَ أنفُسَهُمْ بِأفضَلِ أنواع الزَّيتِ، لَكِنَّهُمْ لا يَحزَنُونَ عَلَى خَرابِ يُوسُفَ.

7 T herefore shall they now go captive, with the first that go captive, and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass away.

لِذَلِكَ سَيَذهَبُونَ الآنَ إلَى السَّبيِ كَأوَّلِ المَسبِيِّينَ، وَاحتِفالُ الَّذِينَ كانُوا مُستَلقِينَ فِي سَلامٍ سَيَنتَهِي.

8 T he Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; and I will deliver up the city with all that is therein.

أقْسَمَ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ بِنَفسِهِ. قالَ الإلهُ القَدِيرُ: «أُبغِضُ كِبرِياءَ يَعقُوبَ، أكرَهُ قُصُورَهُ، وَلِذَلِكَ سَأُسَلِّمُ لِلأعداءِ المَدِينَةَ وَكُلَّ ما فِيها.» سَيَنجُو القَلِيلُونَ فَقَط

9 A nd it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

إنْ بَقِيَ عَشْرَةُ أحياءٍ فِي بَيتٍ فَإنَّهُمْ سَيَمُوتُونَ.

10 A nd a man's uncle, and he that should burn him, shall take him up to bring out the bones from the house, and shall say unto him that is in the inner parts of the house, Is there yet with thee? and he shall say, None. And he will say, Silence! for we may not make mention of Jehovah's name.

فَحِينَئِذٍ، سَيَقُومُ أقرَبُ الأقرِباءِ مَعَ فَردٍ آخَرَ مِنَ العائِلَةِ بِحَملِ عِظامِ المَيِّتِ إلَى خارِجِ البَيتِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لِلمُخْتَبِئِ فِي البَيْتِ: «هَلْ ما زالَ هُناكَ أحَدٌ مَعَكَ؟» فَحِينَئِذٍ، يُجِيبُهُ: «لا …» فَيَقُولُ الأوَّلُ: «اصمِتْ! فَلا يَنبَغِي أنْ نَذكُرَ اسْمَ يهوه!»

11 F or behold, Jehovah commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

ها إنَّ اللهَ سَيَأمُرُ، فَيتَحَطَّمَ البَيتُ الكَبِيرُ إلَى شَظايا، وَالبَيتُ الصَّغِيرُ يَتَصَدَّعُ.

12 S hall horses run upon the rock? will plough with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

هَلْ تَجرِي الخُيُولُ عَلَى الصُّخُورِ؟ أمْ هَلْ يُحرَثُ البَحْرُ بِالثِّيرانِ؟ وَأمّا أنتُمْ فَحَوَّلتُمِ العَدلَ إلَى سُمٍّ، وَثَمَرَ الصَّلاحِ إلَى نَباتٍ مُرٍّ.

13 — ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us power by our own strength?

وَيلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَفرَحُونَ فِي لُودَبارَ، الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ: «ألَمْ نَأخُذْ قِرنايِمَ لِأنفُسِنا بِقُوَّتِنا؟»

14 F or behold, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah the God of hosts, I will raise up against you a nation; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hamath unto the torrent of the Arabah.

لِأنِّي سَأُقِيمُ أُمَّةً غَرِيبَةً ضِدَّكُمْ، يا بَيتَ إسْرائِيلَ، يَقُولُ الإلَهُ القَدِيرُ: «سَيُضايقُونَكُمْ، وَتُعانُونَ مِنْ لِيبُو حَماةَ حَتَّى وادِي عَرَبَةَ.»
