1 A fter five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders, with an attorney named Tertullus, and they brought charges to the governor against Paul.

وَبَعدَ خَمسَةِ أيّامٍ نَزَلَ رَئِيسُ الكَهَنَةِ حَنانِيّا إلَى قَيصَرِيَّةَ مَعَ بَعضِ الشُّيُوخِ وَمُحامٍ اسْمُهُ تَرْتُلُّسَ. فَعَرَضُوا تُهَمَهُمْ ضِدَّ بُولُسَ أمامَ الوالِي.

2 A fter Paul had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying to the governor, “Since we have through you attained much peace, and since by your providence reforms are being carried out for this nation,

وَعِندَما استُدعِيَ بُولُسُ، بَدَأ تَرْتُلُّسُ يُقَدِّمُ التُّهَمَ أمامَ فِيلِكْسَ فَقالَ: «إنَّنا نَتَمَتَّعُ بِقِسطٍ وافِرٍ مِنَ السَّلامِ بِسَبَبِكَ، وَالإصلاحاتُ الَّتِي أُدخِلَتْ مِنْ أجلِ هَذا الشَّعبِ كانَتْ بِفَضلِ بُعدِ نَظَرِكَ.

3 w e acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

نَحنُ نُرَحِّبُ بِهَذا يا صاحِبَ السَّعادَةِ فِيلِكسَ، بِكُلِّ طَرِيقَةٍ وَفِي كُلِّ مَكانٍ، وَكُلِّ امتِنانٍ.

4 B ut, that I may not weary you any further, I beg you to grant us, by your kindness, a brief hearing.

لَكِنْ لِئَلّا أُثقِلَ عَلَيكَ أكثَرَ، فَإنِّي أرجُو أنْ تَتَلَطَّفَ بِالاستِماعِ إلَى كَلِمَتِي المُوجَزَةَ.

5 F or we have found this man a real pest and a fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

فَقَدْ وَجَدنا هَذا الرَّجُلَ مَصدَرَ إزعاجٍ. وَهُوَ يُثِيرُ الشَّغَبَ بَينَ اليَهُودِ فِي كُلِّ أنحاءِ العالَمِ. وَهُوَ مِنْ قادَةِ مَذهَبِ النّاصِرِيِّينَ.

6 A nd he even tried to desecrate the temple; and then we arrested him. '> We wanted to judge him according to our own Law.

كَما أنَّهُ حاوَلَ أنْ يُنَجِّسَ الهَيكَلَ، لَكِنَّنا أمسَكنا بِهِ، وَأرَدْنا أنْ نُحاكِمَهُ بِحَسَبِ شَريعَتِنا.

7 B ut Lysias the commander came along, and with much violence took him out of our hands,

لَكِنَّ الآمِرَ لِيسياسَ جاءَ وَانتَزَعَهُ مِنْ أيْدينا بِقُوَّةٍ،

8 o rdering his accusers to come before you.] By examining him yourself concerning all these matters you will be able to ascertain the things of which we accuse him.”

وَأمَرَ المُشتَكينَ عَليهِ بَأنْ يَأتوا إليكَ. فَحِينَ تُحَقِّقُ مَعَهُ بِنَفسِكَ، سَتَعلَمُ مِنهُ كُلَّ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي نَتَّهِمُهُ بِها.»

9 T he Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were so.

وَانضَمَّ إلَيهِ اليَهُودُ فِي تَوجِيهِ الاتِّهاماتِ، مُؤَكِّدِينَ أنَّ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الاتِّهاماتِ صَحِيحَةٌ. بُولُسُ يُدافِعُ عَنْ نَفسِهِ أمامَ فِيلِكس

10 W hen the governor had nodded for him to speak, Paul responded: “Knowing that for many years you have been a judge to this nation, I cheerfully make my defense,

فَلَمّا أشارَ الوالِي لِبُولُسَ أنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ قالَ: «أنا أعرِفُ أنَّكَ قاضٍ لِهَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ مُنذُ سَنَواتٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، لِذَلِكَ يَسُرُّنِي أنْ أُدافِعَ عَنْ نَفسِي أمامَكَ.

11 s ince you can take note of the fact that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

وَيُمكِنُكَ أنْ تَتَحَقَّقَ مِنْ صِحَّةِ ما أقُولُ. لَمْ يَمضِ عَلَى ذَهابِي إلَى القُدسِ لِلعِبادَةِ أكثَرُ مِنِ اثنَي عَشَرَ يَوماً.

12 N either in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city itself did they find me carrying on a discussion with anyone or causing a riot.

وَلَمْ يَجِدُونِي أُجادِلُ أحَداً فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ. وَلا وَجَدُونِي أُهَيِّجُ النّاسَ لا فِي المَجامِعِ وَلا فِي أيِّ مَكانٍ آخَرَ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ.

13 N or can they prove to you the charges of which they now accuse me.

وَهُمْ لا يَقدِرُونَ أنْ يُثبِتُوا لَكَ صِحَّةَ الاتِّهاماتِ الَّتِي يُوَجِّهُونَها ضِدِّي.

14 B ut this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets;

«غَيرَ أنِّي أعتَرِفُ لَكَ بِأنِّي أعبُدُ إلَهَ آبائِنا حَسَبَ «الطَّرِيقِ» الَّذِي يَعتَبِرونَهُ هَرطَقَةً. وَأنا أُومِنُ بِكُلِّ ما تَقُولُهُ الشَّرِيعَةُ وَما هُوَ مَكتُوبٌ فِي كُتُبِ الأنبِياءِ.

15 h aving a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

وَأنا أشتَرِكُ مَعَ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالِ أنفُسِهِمْ فِي الرَّجاءِ بِاللهِ. وَهَذا الرَّجاءُ هُوَ أنَّهُ سَتَكُونُ هُناكَ قِيامَةٌ لِلصّالِحِينَ وَالأشرارِ مَعاً.

16 I n view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men.

وَلِهَذا فَإنِّي أُدَرِّبُ نَفسِي دائِماً لِيَكُونَ ضَمِيرِي بِلا لَومٍ أمامَ اللهِ وَالنّاسِ.

17 N ow after several years I came to bring alms to my nation and to present offerings;

«فَبَعدَ غِيابِ عِدَّةِ سَنَواتٍ، رَجِعتُ إلَى القُدسِ لِأُحضِرَ تَبَرُّعاتٍ لِلفُقَراءَ مِنْ جَماعَتِي، وَلِأُقَدِّمَ تَقدِماتٍ للهِ.

18 i n which they found me occupied in the temple, having been purified, without any crowd or uproar. But there were some Jews from Asia—

وَبَينَما كُنتُ أفعَلُ هَذا، وَجَدُونِي فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ أُكمِلُ طَقسَ التَّطهِيرِ. وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ جَمعٌ وَلا حَدَثَ شَغَبٌ.

19 w ho ought to have been present before you and to make accusation, if they should have anything against me.

بَلْ كانَ بَعضُ اليَهُودِ مِنْ أسِيّا مَوجُودِينَ هُناكَ. أُولَئِكَ يَنبَغِي أنْ يَأتُوا إلَيكَ، وَيُقَدِّمُوا اتِّهامَهُمْ، إنْ كانَ لَدَيهِمْ شَيءٌ ضِدِّي.

20 O r else let these men themselves tell what misdeed they found when I stood before the Council,

أوْ لِيَتَحَدَّثْ هَؤُلاءِ الحاضِرُونَ هُنا عَنْ أيَّةِ جَرِيمَةٍ أثبَتُوها عَلَيَّ عِندَما وَقَفتُ أمامَ المَجلِسِ اليَهُودِيِّ.

21 o ther than for this one statement which I shouted out while standing among them, ‘For the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today.’”

رُبَّما اعتَبَرُونِي مُذنِباً بِسَبَبِ الجُملَةِ الوَحِيدَةِ الَّتِي قُلْتُها هُناكَ عَلَى مَسمَعٍ مِنهُمْ. فَقَدْ قُلْتُ: ‹أنتُمْ تُحاكِمُونَنِي اليَومَ عَلَى أساسِ إيمانِي بِقِيامَةِ الأمواتِ.›»

22 B ut Felix, having a more exact knowledge about the Way, put them off, saying, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case.”

ثُمَّ قَرَّرَ فِيلِكسُ الَّذِي كانَ مُطَّلِعاً اطِّلاعاً جَيِّداً عَلَى «الطَّرِيقِ،» أنْ يُؤَجِّلَ الجَلسَةَ، وَقالَ: «حِينَ يَأتِي الآمِرُ لِيسْياسُ، سَأبِتُّ فِي قَضِيَّتِكَ.»

23 T hen he gave orders to the centurion for him to be kept in custody and yet have some freedom, and not to prevent any of his friends from ministering to him.

وَأمَرَ الضّابِطَ بِأنْ يُبقِيَهُ تَحتَ الحِراسَةِ مَعَ مَنحِهِ بَعضَ الحُرِّيَّةِ. كَما أمَرَهُ بِأنْ لا يُمنَعَ أصدِقاءُ بُولُسَ مِنَ الاهتِمامِ بِحاجاتِهِ. بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ إلَى فِيلِكسَ وَزَوجَتِه

24 B ut some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.

وَبَعدَ عِدَّةِ أيّامٍ جاءَ فِيلِكسُ وَمَعَهُ زَوجَتُهُ دُرُوسِّلا. وَكانَتْ زَوجَتُهُ يَهُودِيَّةً. فَاسْتُدْعِيَ بُولُسُ، وَاستَمَعَ فِيلِكسُ إلَيهِ وَهُوَ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنْ إيمانِهِ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ.

25 B ut as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you.”

لَكِنْ بَينَما كانَ بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنِ البِرِّ وَضَبطِ النَّفسِ وَالدَّينُونَةِ الآتِيَةِ، خافَ فِيلِكسُ وَقالَ لِبُولُسَ: «انصَرِفِ الآنَ، وَحِينَ تُتاحُ لِي فُرصَةٌ سَأستَدعِيكَ.»

26 A t the same time too, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and converse with him.

وَكانَ فِي الوَقتِ نَفسِهِ يَأْمَلُ أنْ يُعطِيَهُ بُولُسُ رِشْوَةً مالِيَّةً. فَكانَ يَستَدعِيهِ كَثِيراً وَيَتَحَدَّثُ إلَيهِ.

27 B ut after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul imprisoned.

وَبَعدَ مُرُورِ عامَينِ، خَلَفَهُ بُورْكيُوسَ فِسْتُوسَ والِياً. وَتَرَكَ فِيلِكسُ بُولُسَ مَسجُوناً، لِأنَّهُ كانَ يُرِيدُ أنْ يُرضِيَ اليَهُودَ.
