1 T he burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish! for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, none entering in. From the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

Proorocie împotriva Tirului.,, Bociţi-vă, corăbii din Tarsis! Căci Tirul a fost nimicit: nu mai are nici case, nici intrare! Din ţara Chitim le -a venit vestea aceasta.``

2 B e still, ye inhabitants of the isle! The merchants of Sidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished thee.

Amuţiţi de groază, locuitori ai ţărmului, pe care o umpleau odată negustorii din Sidon, cari străbăteau marea!

3 A nd on great waters, the seed of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue; and she was the market of the nations.

Veniturile lui erau grîul Nilului şi secerişul rîului, aduse pe ape mari, aşa că el era tîrgul neamurilor.``

4 B e thou ashamed, Sidon, for the sea hath spoken, the strength of the sea, saying, I have not travailed nor brought forth, neither have I nourished young men brought up virgins.

Ruşinează-te Sidoane! căci aşa vorbeşte marea, cetăţuia mării:, Eu n'am avut durerile facerii, nici n'am născut, n'am hrănit tineri, nici n'am crescut fete.``

5 — When the report came into Egypt, they were sorely pained at the news of Tyre.

Cînd vor afla Egiptenii vestea aceasta, vor tremura auzind de căderea Tirului,

6 P ass over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the coast!

şi vor zice:,, Treceţi la Tarsis, bociţi-vă, locuitori ai ţărmului!

7 I s this your joyous, whose antiquity is of ancient days? Her feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.

Aceasta este cetatea voastră cea veselă, care avea o obîrşie veche, şi ale cărei picioare o duceau să locuiască departe.

8 W ho hath purposed this against Tyre, the distributor of crowns, whose merchants were princes, whose dealers were the honourable of the earth?

Cine a luat această hotărîre împotriva Tirului, împărţitorul cununilor, el, ai cărui negustori erau nişte voivozi, şi ai cărui tîrgoveţi erau cei mai bogaţi de pe pămînt?

9 J ehovah of hosts hath purposed it, to profane the pride of all glory, to bring to nought all the honourable of the earth.

Domnul oştirilor a luat această hotărîre, ca să ruşineze mîndria a tot ce străluceşte, şi să smerească pe toţi cei mari ai pămîntului:

10 O verflow thy land like the Nile, daughter of Tarshish: there is no more restraint.

Străbate-ţi ţara, ca Nilul, niciun brîu nu te mai strînge, fiica Tarsisului! Nu mai este niciun jug!

11 H e hath stretched out his hand over the sea, he shaketh the kingdoms. Jehovah hath given a commandment concerning Canaan, to destroy the strongholds thereof,

Domnul Şi -a întins mîna asupra mării; a făcut să tremure împărăţii; a poruncit nimicirea cetăţuilor Canaanului,

12 a nd hath said, Thou shalt no more exult, oppressed virgin, daughter of Sidon: get thee up, pass over to Chittim; even there shalt thou have no rest.

şi a zis:, De acum nu te vei mai bucura, fecioară necinstită, fiica Sidonului! Scoală-te şi treci în ţara Chitim; dar nici acolo nu vei avea odihnă.

13 B ehold the land of the Chaldeans: this people did not exist; the Assyrian founded it for the dwellers in the desert: they set up their towers, they destroyed the palaces thereof; he brought it to ruin.

Iacă pe Haldei, cari nu erau un popor, locuitorii aceştia ai pustiei, cărora Asirianul le -a întemeiat o ţară; ei înalţă turnuri, surpă casele împărăteşti ale Tirului, le prefac în dărîmături.``

14 H owl, ships of Tarshish! for your fortress is laid waste.

Bociţi-vă, corăbii din Tarsis! Căci cetăţuia voastră este nimicită.``

15 A nd it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it shall be for Tyre as the harlot's song.

În vremea aceea, Tirul va fi dat uitării şaptezeci de ani, cît ţine viaţa unui împărat, dar după şaptezeci de ani, se va întîmpla Tirului ca şi curvei despre care vorbeşte cîntecul:

16 T ake a harp, go about the city, thou forgotten harlot! Make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

Ia arfa şi străbate cetatea, curvă dată uitării; cîntă bine, cîntă-ţi cîntecele de mai multe ori, ca iarăş să-şi aducă lumea aminte de tine.``

17 A nd it shall come to pass at the end of seventy years, that Jehovah will visit Tyre; and she will return to her hire, and will commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the earth upon the face of the ground.

Tot aşa, după şaptezeci de ani, Domnul va cerceta Tirul, şi se va întoarce iarăş la cîştigul lui; va avea legături cu toate împărăţiile lumii de pe faţa pămîntului;

18 A nd her merchandise and her hire shall be holy to Jehovah: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before Jehovah, to eat and be sufficed, and for excellent clothing.

dar cîştigul şi plata lui vor fi închinate Domnului, nu vor fi nici strînse nici păstrate; ci cîştigul lui va aduce celor ce locuiesc înaintea Domnului, o hrană îmbelşugată şi haine strălucite.
