1 F or ye know yourselves, brethren, our entering in which to you, that it has not been in vain;

Voi înşivă ştiţi, fraţilor, că venirea noastră la voi n'a fost zadarnică.

2 b ut, having suffered before and been insulted, even as ye know, in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the glad tidings of God with much earnest striving.

Dupăce am suferit şi am fost batjocoriţi în Filipi, cum ştiţi, am venit plini de încredere în Dumnezeul nostru, să vă vestim Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu în mijlocul multor lupte.

3 F or our exhortation not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile;

Căci propovăduirea noastră nu se întemeiază nici pe rătăcire, nici pe necurăţie, nici pe viclenie.

4 b ut even as we have been approved of God to have the glad tidings entrusted to us, so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who proves our hearts.

Ci, fiindcă Dumnezeu ne -a găsit vrednici să ne încredinţeze Evanghelia, căutăm să vorbim aşa ca să placem nu oamenilor, ci lui Dumnezeu, care ne cercetează inima.

5 F or we have not at any time been with flattering discourse, even as ye know, nor with a pretext for covetousness, God witness;

În adevăr, cum bine ştiţi, niciodată n'am întrebuinţat vorbe măgulitoare, nici haina lăcomiei: martor este Dumnezeu.

6 n or seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have been a charge as Christ's apostles;

N'am căutat slavă dela oameni: nici dela voi, nici dela alţii, deşi, ca apostoli ai lui Hristos, am fi putut să cerem cinste.

7 b ut have been gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse would cherish her own children.

Dimpotrivă, ne-am arătat blînzi în mijlocul vostru, ca o doică ce-şi creşte cu drag copiii.

8 T hus, yearning over you, we had found our delight in having imparted to you not only the glad tidings of God, but our own lives also, because ye had become beloved of us.

Astfel, în dragostea noastră fierbinte pentru voi, eram gata să vă dăm nu numai Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu, dar chiar şi viaţa noastră, atît de scumpi ne ajunseserăţi.

9 F or ye remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, not to be chargeable to any one of you, we have preached to you the glad tidings of God.

Vă aduceţi aminte, fraţilor, de osteneala şi munca noastră. Cum lucram zi şi noapte, ca să nu fim sarcină niciunuia din voi, şi vă propovăduiam Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu.

10 Y e witnesses, and God, how piously and righteously and blamelessly we have conducted ourselves with you that believe:

Voi sînteţi martori, şi Dumnezeu deasemenea, că am avut o purtare sfîntă, dreaptă şi fără prihană faţă de voi, cari credeţi.

11 a s ye know how, as a father his own children, we used to exhort each one of you, and comfort and testify,

Ştiţi iarăş că am fost pentru fiecare din voi, ca un tată cu copiii lui: vă sfătuiam, vă mîngîiam şi vă adeveream,

12 t hat ye should walk worthy of God, who calls you to his own kingdom and glory.

să vă purtaţi într'un chip vrednic de Dumnezeu, care vă cheamă la Împărăţia şi slava Sa.

13 A nd for this cause we also give thanks to God unceasingly that, having received word of report of God by us, ye accepted, not men's word, but, even as it is truly, God's word, which also works in you who believe.

Deaceea mulţămim fără încetare lui Dumnezeu că, atunci cînd aţi primit Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, auzit dela noi, l-aţi primit nu ca pe cuvîntul oamenilor, ci, aşa cum şi este în adevăr, ca pe Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, care lucrează şi în voi cari credeţi.

14 F or ye, brethren, have become imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus; for ye also have suffered the same things of your own countrymen as also they of the Jews,

Căci, fraţilor, voi aţi călcat pe urmele Bisericilor lui Dumnezeu, cari sînt în Hristos Isus, în Iudea; pentrucă şi voi aţi suferit din partea celor de un neam cu voi aceleaşi rele, pe cari le-au suferit ele din partea Iudeilor.

15 w ho have both slain the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have driven us out by persecution, and do not please God, and against all men,

Iudeii aceştia au omorît pe Domnul Isus şi pe prooroci, pe noi ne-au prigonit, nu plac lui Dumnezeu, şi sînt vrăjmaşi tuturor oamenilor,

16 f orbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, that they may fill up their sins always: but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

căci ne opresc să vorbim Neamurilor, ca să fie mîntuite. Astfel, ei totdeauna pun vîrf păcatelor lor. Dar, la urmă, i -a ajuns mînia lui Dumnezeu!

17 B ut we, brethren, having been bereaved of you and separated for a little moment in person, not in heart, have used more abundant diligence to see your face with much desire;

Noi, fraţilor, după ce am fost despărţiţi cîtăva vreme de voi, cu faţa dar nu cu inima, am avut cu atît mai mult dorinţa să vă vedem.

18 w herefore we have desired to come to you, even I Paul, both once and twice, and Satan has hindered us.

Astfel, odată, şi chiar de două ori, am voit (eu, Pavel, cel puţin) să venim la voi; dar ne -a împedecat Satana.

19 F or what our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? not ye also before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

Căci cine este, în adevăr, nădejdea, sau bucuria, sau cununa noastră de slavă? Nu sînteţi voi, înaintea Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, la venirea Lui?

20 f or ye are our glory and joy.

Da, voi sînteţi slava şi bucuria noastră.
