1 M eine Kindlein, solches schreibe ich euch, auf daß ihr nicht sündiget. Und ob jemand sündigt, so haben wir einen Fürsprecher bei dem Vater, Jesum Christum, der gerecht ist.

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

2 U nd derselbe ist die Versöhnung für unsre Sünden, nicht allein aber für die unseren sondern auch für die der ganzen Welt.

And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. The Test of Knowing Him

3 U nd an dem merken wir, daß wir ihn kennen, so wir seine Gebote halten.

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

4 W er da sagt: Ich kenne ihn, und hält seine Gebote nicht, der ist ein Lügner, und in solchem ist keine Wahrheit.

He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 W er aber sein Wort hält, in solchem ist wahrlich die Liebe Gottes vollkommen. Daran erkennen wir, daß wir in ihm sind.

But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

6 W er da sagt, daß er in ihm bleibt, der soll auch wandeln, gleichwie er gewandelt hat.

He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

7 B rüder, ich schreibe euch nicht ein neues Gebot, sondern das alte Gebot, das ihr habt von Anfang gehabt. Das alte Gebot ist das Wort, das ihr von Anfang gehört habt.

Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

8 W iederum ein neues Gebot schreibe ich euch, das da wahrhaftig ist bei ihm und bei euch; denn die Finsternis vergeht, und das wahre Licht scheint jetzt.

Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.

9 W er da sagt, er sei im Licht, und haßt seinen Bruder, der ist noch in der Finsternis.

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

10 W er seinen Bruder liebt, der bleibt im Licht, und ist kein Ärgernis bei ihm.

He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

11 W er aber seinen Bruder haßt, der ist in der Finsternis und wandelt in der Finsternis und weiß nicht, wo er hin geht; denn die Finsternis hat seine Augen verblendet.

But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. Their Spiritual State

12 L iebe Kindlein, ich schreibe euch; denn die Sünden sind euch vergeben durch seinen Namen.

I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

13 I ch schreibe euch Vätern; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich schreibe euch Jünglingen; denn ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.

I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.

14 I ch habe euch Kindern geschrieben; denn ihr kennet den Vater. Ich habe euch Vätern geschrieben; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich habe euch Jünglingen geschrieben; denn ihr seid stark, und das Wort Gottes bleibt bei euch, und ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.

I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one. Do Not Love the World

15 H abt nicht lieb die Welt noch was in der Welt ist. So jemand die Welt liebhat, in dem ist nicht die Liebe des Vaters.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 D enn alles, was in der Welt ist: des Fleisches Lust und der Augen Lust und hoffärtiges Leben, ist nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt.

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

17 U nd die Welt vergeht mit ihrer Lust; wer aber den Willen Gottes tut, der bleibt in Ewigkeit.

And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Deceptions of the Last Hour

18 K inder, es ist die letzte Stunde! Und wie ihr gehört habt, daß der Widerchrist kommt, so sind nun viele Widerchristen geworden; daher erkennen wir, daß die letzte Stunde ist.

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.

19 S ie sind von uns ausgegangen, aber sie waren nicht von uns. Denn wo sie von uns gewesen wären, so wären sie ja bei uns geblieben; aber es sollte offenbar werden, daß nicht alle von uns sind.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

20 U nd ihr habt die Salbung von dem, der heilig ist, und wisset alles.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

21 I ch habe euch nicht geschrieben, als wüßtet ihr die Wahrheit nicht; sondern ihr wisset sie und wisset, daß keine Lüge aus der Wahrheit kommt.

I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22 W er ist ein Lügner, wenn nicht, der da leugnet, daß Jesus der Christus sei? Das ist der Widerchrist, der den Vater und den Sohn leugnet.

Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.

23 W er den Sohn leugnet, der hat auch den Vater nicht; wer den Sohn bekennt, der hat auch den Vater.

Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. Let Truth Abide in You

24 W as ihr nun gehört habt von Anfang, das bleibe bei euch. So bei euch bleibt, was ihr von Anfang gehört habt, so werdet ihr auch bei dem Sohn und dem Vater bleiben.

Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

25 U nd das ist die Verheißung, die er uns verheißen hat: das ewige Leben.

And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.

26 S olches habe ich euch geschrieben von denen, die euch verführen.

These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.

27 U nd die Salbung, die ihr von ihm empfangen habt, bleibt bei euch, und ihr bedürfet nicht, daß euch jemand lehre; sondern wie euch die Salbung alles lehrt, so ist's wahr und ist keine Lüge, und wie sie euch gelehrt hat, so bleibet bei ihm.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. The Children of God

28 U nd nun, Kindlein, bleibet bei ihm, auf daß, wenn er offenbart wird, wir Freudigkeit haben und nicht zu Schanden werden vor ihm bei seiner Zukunft.

And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

29 S o ihr wisset, daß er gerecht ist, so erkennet ihr auch, daß, wer recht tut, der ist von ihm geboren.

If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.
