1 ( Ein Psalmlied Asaphs.) Gott, schweige doch nicht also und sei doch nicht so still; Gott, halt doch nicht so inne!

O God, do not keep quiet. Do not be quiet, O God, and do not hold Your peace.

2 D enn siehe, deine Feinde toben, und die dich hassen, richten den Kopf auf.

For, look, those who hate You are making much noise. Those who fight against You have honored themselves.

3 S ie machen listige Anschläge gegen dein Volk und ratschlagen wider deine Verborgenen.

They make bad plans against Your people. They plan against those You care for.

4 " Wohl her!" sprechen sie; "laßt uns sie ausrotten, daß sie kein Volk seien, daß des Namens Israel nicht mehr gedacht werde!"

They say, “Come, let us destroy them as a nation. Let the name of Israel be remembered no longer.”

5 D enn sie haben sich miteinander vereinigt und einen Bund wider dich gemacht,

For they plan together with one mind. They make an agreement against You:

6 d ie Hütten der Edomiter und Ismaeliter, der Moabiter und Hagariter,

The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagarites;

7 d er Gebaliter, Ammoniter und Amalekiter, die Philister samt denen zu Tyrus;

Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with those who live in Tyre;

8 A ssur hat sich auch zu ihnen geschlagen; sie helfen den Kindern Lot. (Sela.)

Assyria has joined them also. They help the children of Lot.

9 T ue ihnen, wie den Midianitern, wie Sisera, wie Jabin am Bach Kison,

Do to them as You did to Midian, and to Sisera and Jabin at the river of Kishon.

10 d ie vertilgt wurden bei Endor und wurden zu Kot auf der Erde.

They were destroyed at Endor. They were spread over the field.

11 M ache ihre Fürsten wie Oreb und Seeb, alle ihre Obersten wie Sebah und Zalmuna,

Make their respected men like Oreb and Zeeb. Make their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

12 d ie da sagen: Wir wollen Häuser Gottes einnehmen.

who said, “Let us take for ourselves the fields of God.”

13 G ott, mache sie wie einen Wirbel, wie Stoppeln vor dem Winde.

O my God, make them like dust turning in the wind, like parts of the grass that have no worth and are blown away.

14 W ie ein Feuer den Wald verbrennt und wie eine Flamme die Berge anzündet:

As the fire that burns up the trees and spreads over the mountains,

15 a lso verfolge sie mit deinem Wetter und erschrecke sie mit deinem Ungewitter.

so go behind them with Your storm. Make them afraid with Your storm.

16 M ache ihr Angesicht voll Schande, daß sie nach deinem Namen fragen müssen, o HERR.

Fill their faces with shame, so they will look to Your name, O Lord.

17 S chämen müssen sie sich und erschrecken auf immer und zu Schanden werden und umkommen;

Let them be ashamed and afraid forever. Let them be put to shame and lost.

18 s o werden sie erkennen, daß du mit deinem Namen heißest HERR allein und der Höchste in aller Welt.

Then they may know that You alone, Whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.
