1 U nd auf Asarja, den Sohn Odeds, kam der Geist Gottes.

The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.

2 D er ging hinaus Asa entgegen und sprach zu ihm: Höret mir zu, Asa und ganz Juda und Benjamin. Der HERR ist mit euch, weil ihr mit ihm seid; und wenn ihr ihn sucht, wird er sich von euch finden lassen. Werdet ihr aber ihn verlassen, so wird er euch auch verlassen.

Azariah went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you look for Him, He will let you find Him. But if you leave Him, He will leave you.

3 E s werden aber viel Tage sein in Israel, daß kein rechter Gott, kein Priester, der da lehrt, und kein Gesetz sein wird.

For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching religious leader, and without law.

4 U nd wenn sie sich bekehren in ihrer Not zum Herrn, dem Gott Israels, und werden ihn suchen, so wird er sich finden lassen.

But in their trouble they turned to the Lord God of Israel. They looked for Him, and He let them find Him.

5 Z u der Zeit wird's nicht wohl gehen dem, der aus und ein geht; denn es werden große Getümmel sein über alle, die auf Erden wohnen.

In those times there was no peace for him who went out, or for him who came in. For much trouble came to all the people of the lands.

6 D enn ein Volk wird das andere zerschlagen und eine Stadt die andere; denn Gott wird sie erschrecken mit allerlei Angst.

Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God sent every kind of trouble upon them.

7 I hr aber seid getrost und tut eure Hände nicht ab; denn euer Werk hat seinen Lohn.

But you be strong. Do not lose strength of heart. For you will be paid for your work.”

8 D a aber Asa hörte diese Worte und die Weissagung Odeds, des Propheten, ward er getrost und tat weg die Greuel aus dem ganzen Lande Juda und Benjamin uns aus den Städten, die er gewonnen hatte auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, und erneuerte den Altar des HERRN, der vor der Halle des HERRN stand,

When Asa heard these words and the words of Azariah the son of Oded, his heart became strong. He put away the sinful false gods from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim. He built again the altar of the Lord which was in front of the porch of the Lord’s house.

9 u nd versammelte das ganze Juda und Benjamin und die Fremdlinge bei ihnen aus Ephraim, Manasse und Simeon. Denn es fielen zu ihm aus Israel die Menge, als sie sahen, daß der HERR, sein Gott, mit ihm war.

Then he gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, who lived with them. For many had left Israel to come to him when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.

10 U nd sie versammelten sich gen Jerusalem im dritten Monat des fünfzehnten Jahres des Königreichs Asas

So they gathered together at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s rule.

11 u nd opferten desselben Tages dem HERRN von dem Raub, den sie gebracht hatten, siebenhundert Ochsen und siebentausend Schafe.

They killed animals on the altar in worship to the Lord that day. They killed and gave 700 cattle and 7, 000 sheep from the animals they had taken in battle.

12 U nd sie traten in den Bund, daß sie suchten den HERRN, ihrer Väter Gott, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele;

And they agreed to follow the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and soul.

13 u nd wer nicht würde den HERRN, den Gott Israels, suchen, sollte sterben, klein oder groß, Mann oder Weib.

Whoever would not follow the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, young or old, man or woman.

14 U nd sie schwuren dem HERRN mit lauter Stimme, mit Freudengeschrei, mit Drommeten und Posaunen.

They made a promise to the Lord with a loud voice, calling out and blowing horns.

15 U nd das ganze Juda war fröhlich über dem Eide; denn sie hatten geschworen von ganzen Herzen, und suchten ihn mit ganzem Willen. Und er ließ sich finden, und der HERR gab ihnen Ruhe umher.

All Judah was filled with joy because of the promise. For they had promised with their whole heart. They had looked for the Lord with a pure heart. And He let them find Him. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.

16 A uch setzte Asa, der König, ab Maacha, seine Mutter, daß sie nicht mehr Herrin war, weil sie der Ascherah ein Greuelbild gestiftet hatte. Und Asa rottete ihr Greuelbild aus und zerstieß es und verbrannte es am Bach Kidron.

King Asa even stopped his mother from being queen mother. Because she had made a sinful object of the false goddess Asherah. Asa cut down her sinful object. He crushed it and burned it at the Kidron River.

17 A ber die Höhen in Israel wurden nicht abgetan; doch war das Herz Asas rechtschaffen sein Leben lang.

But the high places were not taken away from Israel. Yet Asa’s heart was without blame all his days.

18 U nd er brachte ein, was sein Vater geheiligt und was er geheiligt hatte, ins Haus Gottes: Silber, Gold und Gefäße.

He brought into the house of God the holy things of his father and his own holy things. He brought in silver and gold and the things used for the worship.

19 U nd es war kein Streit bis an das fünfunddreißigste Jahr des Königreichs Asas.

And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s rule.
