1 V ino el Espíritu de Dios sobre Azarías hijo de Obed,

The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.

2 y salió al encuentro de Asa, y le dijo: Oídme, Asa y todo Judá y Benjamín: Jehová estará con vosotros, si vosotros estuviereis con él; y si le buscareis, será hallado de vosotros; mas si le dejareis, él también os dejará.

Azariah went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you look for Him, He will let you find Him. But if you leave Him, He will leave you.

3 M uchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios y sin sacerdote que enseñara, y sin ley;

For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching religious leader, and without law.

4 p ero cuando en su tribulación se convirtieron a Jehová Dios de Israel, y le buscaron, él fue hallado de ellos.

But in their trouble they turned to the Lord God of Israel. They looked for Him, and He let them find Him.

5 E n aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba ni para el que salía, sino muchas aflicciones sobre todos los habitantes de las tierras.

In those times there was no peace for him who went out, or for him who came in. For much trouble came to all the people of the lands.

6 Y una gente destruía a otra, y una ciudad a otra ciudad; porque Dios los turbó con toda clase de calamidades.

Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God sent every kind of trouble upon them.

7 P ero esforzaos vosotros, y no desfallezcan vuestras manos, pues hay recompensa para vuestra obra.

But you be strong. Do not lose strength of heart. For you will be paid for your work.”

8 C uando oyó Asa las palabras y la profecía del profeta Azarías hijo de Obed, cobró ánimo, y quitó los ídolos abominables de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de las ciudades que él había tomado en la parte montañosa de Efraín; y reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba delante del pórtico de Jehová.

When Asa heard these words and the words of Azariah the son of Oded, his heart became strong. He put away the sinful false gods from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim. He built again the altar of the Lord which was in front of the porch of the Lord’s house.

9 D espués reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos los forasteros de Efraín, de Manasés y de Simeón; porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado a él, viendo que Jehová su Dios estaba con él.

Then he gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, who lived with them. For many had left Israel to come to him when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.

10 S e reunieron, pues, en Jerusalén, en el mes tercero del año decimoquinto del reinado de Asa.

So they gathered together at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s rule.

11 Y en aquel mismo día sacrificaron para Jehová, del botín que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.

They killed animals on the altar in worship to the Lord that day. They killed and gave 700 cattle and 7, 000 sheep from the animals they had taken in battle.

12 E ntonces prometieron solemnemente que buscarían a Jehová el Dios de sus padres, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma;

And they agreed to follow the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and soul.

13 y que cualquiera que no buscase a Jehová el Dios de Israel, muriese, grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.

Whoever would not follow the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, young or old, man or woman.

14 Y juraron a Jehová con gran voz y júbilo, al son de trompetas y de bocinas.

They made a promise to the Lord with a loud voice, calling out and blowing horns.

15 T odos los de Judá se alegraron de este juramento; porque de todo su corazón lo juraban, y de toda su voluntad lo buscaban, y fue hallado de ellos; y Jehová les dio paz por todas partes.

All Judah was filled with joy because of the promise. For they had promised with their whole heart. They had looked for the Lord with a pure heart. And He let them find Him. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.

16 Y aun a Maaca madre del rey Asa, él mismo la depuso de su dignidad, porque había hecho una imagen de Asera; y Asa destruyó la imagen, y la desmenuzó, y la quemó junto al torrente de Cedrón.

King Asa even stopped his mother from being queen mother. Because she had made a sinful object of the false goddess Asherah. Asa cut down her sinful object. He crushed it and burned it at the Kidron River.

17 C on todo esto, los lugares altos no eran quitados de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto en todos sus días.

But the high places were not taken away from Israel. Yet Asa’s heart was without blame all his days.

18 Y trajo a la casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él había consagrado, plata, oro y utensilios.

He brought into the house of God the holy things of his father and his own holy things. He brought in silver and gold and the things used for the worship.

19 Y no hubo más guerra hasta los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa.

And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s rule.
