1 H iram rey de Tiro envió a David embajadores, y madera de cedro, y albañiles y carpinteros, para que le edificasen una casa.

Now King Hiram of Tyre sent men with cedar trees to David. With them came men who worked with stone and wood. They came to build a house for him.

2 Y entendió David que Jehová lo había confirmado como rey sobre Israel, y que había exaltado su reino sobre su pueblo Israel. Hijos de David nacidos en Jerusalén (2 S. 5. 13-16; 1 Cr. 3. 5-9)

David understood that the Lord had made him to be king of Israel. He knew that his nation was very honored because of God’s people Israel.

3 E ntonces David tomó también mujeres en Jerusalén, y engendró David más hijos e hijas.

Then David took more wives at Jerusalem. He became the father of more sons and daughters.

4 Y estos son los nombres de los que le nacieron en Jerusalén: Samúa, Sobab, Natán, Salomón,

The names of the children born to him in Jerusalem are Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

5 I bhar, Elisúa, Elpelet,

Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

6 N oga, Nefeg, Jafía,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

7 E lisama, Beeliada y Elifelet. David derrota a los filisteos (2 S. 5. 17-25)

Elishama, Beeliada and Eliphelet. Battle with the Philistines

8 O yendo los filisteos que David había sido ungido rey sobre todo Israel, subieron todos los filisteos en busca de David. Y cuando David lo oyó, salió contra ellos.

The Philistines heard that David had been chosen as king of all Israel. So they went up to look for him. David heard of it and went out against them.

9 Y vinieron los filisteos, y se extendieron por el valle de Refaim.

Now the Philistines had come to fight a surprise battle in the valley of Rephaim.

10 E ntonces David consultó a Dios, diciendo: ¿Subiré contra los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mi mano? Y Jehová le dijo: Sube, porque yo los entregaré en tus manos.

David asked God, “Should I go fight against the Philistines? Will You give them to me?” And the Lord said to him, “Go, for I will give them to you.”

11 S ubieron, pues, a Baal-perazim, y allí los derrotó David. Dijo luego David: Dios rompió mis enemigos por mi mano, como se rompen las aguas. Por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel lugar Baal-perazim.

So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David won the battle against them there. David said, “By my hand God has broken through those who hate me, like the breaking through of a flood.” So they gave that place the name Baal-perazim.

12 Y dejaron allí sus dioses, y David dijo que los quemasen.

The Philistines left their gods there. So David had them burned with fire.

13 Y volviendo los filisteos a extenderse por el valle,

The Philistines fought another surprise battle in the valley.

14 D avid volvió a consultar a Dios, y Dios le dijo: No subas tras ellos, sino rodéalos, para venir a ellos por delante de las balsameras.

So David asked God again what he should do. God said to him, “Do not go after them. Go around behind them, and come upon them in front of the balsam trees.

15 Y así que oigas venir un estruendo por las copas de las balsameras, sal luego a la batalla, porque Dios saldrá delante de ti y herirá el ejército de los filisteos.

When you hear the sound of their steps in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle. For God will have gone out before you to destroy the Philistine army.”

16 H izo, pues, David como Dios le mandó, y derrotaron al ejército de los filisteos desde Gabaón hasta Gezer.

David did just as God had told him, and they destroyed the Philistine army from Gibeon as far as Gezer.

17 Y la fama de David fue divulgada por todas aquellas tierras; y Jehová puso el temor de David sobre todas las naciones.

Then the name of David became known in all the lands. The Lord brought the fear of him upon all the nations.
