1 U nd er fing an, zu ihnen durch Gleichnisse zu reden: Ein Mensch pflanzte einen Weinberg und führte einen Zaun darum und grub eine Kelter und baute einen Turm und tat ihn aus den Weingärtnern und zog über Land.

Jesus began to teach them by using picture-stories, saying, “There was a man who planted grapes in a field. He put a fence around it and made a place for making wine. He built a tower to look over the field. Then he let farmers rent it and went into another country.

2 U nd sandte einen Knecht, da die Zeit kam, zu den Weingärtnern, daß er von den Weingärtnern nähme von der Frucht des Weinbergs.

“The time came for gathering the grapes. He sent his servant to the farmers to get some of the grapes.

3 S ie nahmen ihn aber und stäupten ihn, und ließen ihn leer von sich.

The farmers took him and beat him. They sent him back with nothing.

4 A bermals sandte er ihnen einen anderen Knecht; dem zerwarfen sie den Kopf mit Steinen und ließen ihn geschmäht von sich.

The owner sent another servant. The farmers threw stones at him and hit him on the head and did other bad things to him.

5 A bermals sandte er einen andern: den töteten sie. Und viele andere, etliche stäupten sie, etliche töteten sie.

Again the owner sent another servant. The farmers killed that one. Many other servants were sent. They beat some and they killed others.

6 D a hatte er noch einen einzigen Sohn, der war ihm lieb; den sandte er zum letzten auch zu ihnen und sprach: Sie werden sich vor meinem Sohn scheuen.

“He had a much-loved son to send yet. So last of all he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

7 A ber die Weingärtner sprachen untereinander: Dies ist der Erbe; kommt, laßt uns ihn töten, so wird das Erbe unser sein!

The farmers said to themselves, ‘This is the one who will get everything when the owner dies. Let us kill him and we will get everything.’

8 U nd sie nahmen ihn und töteten ihn und warfen ihn hinaus vor den Weinberg.

They took him and killed him. They threw his body outside the field.

9 W as wird nun der Herr des Weinbergs tun? Er wird kommen und die Weingärtner umbringen und den Weinberg andern geben.

What will the owner of the field do? He will come and kill the farmers. He will give the field to other farmers.

10 H abt ihr auch nicht gelesen diese Schrift: "Der Stein, den die Bauleute verworfen haben, der ist zum Eckstein geworden.

“Have you not read what the Holy Writings say? ‘The Stone that was put aside by the workmen has become the most important Stone in the corner of the building.

11 V on dem HERRN ist das geschehen, und es ist wunderbarlich vor unseren Augen"?

The Lord has done this. It is great in our eyes.’”

12 U nd sie trachteten darnach, wie sie ihn griffen, und fürchteten sich doch vor dem Volk; denn sie verstanden, daß er auf sie dies Gleichnis geredet hatte. Und sie ließen ihn und gingen davon.

The leaders wanted to take Him but they were afraid of the people. They knew He had told the picture-story against them. They left Him and went away. They Try to Trap Jesus

13 U nd sie sandten zu ihm etliche von den Pharisäern und des Herodes Dienern, daß sie ihn fingen in Worten.

Some of the proud religious law-keepers and Herod’s men were sent to trap Jesus in His talk.

14 U nd sie kamen und sprachen zu ihm: Meister, wir wissen, daß du wahrhaftig bist und fragst nach niemand; denn du achtest nicht das Ansehen der Menschen, sondern du lehrst den Weg Gottes recht. Ist's recht, daß man dem Kaiser Zins gebe, oder nicht? Sollen wir ihn geben oder nicht geben?

They came to Him and said, “Teacher, we know You are true. We know You are not afraid of what men think or say about You. You teach the way of God in truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?

15 E r aber merkte ihre Heuchelei und sprach zu ihnen: Was versucht ihr mich? Bringet mir einen Groschen, daß ich ihn sehe.

Should we pay or not pay?” Jesus knew how they pretended to be someone they were not. He said to them, “Why do you try to trap Me? Bring Me a small piece of money so I may look at it.”

16 U nd sie brachten ihm. Da sprach er: Wes ist das Bild und die Überschrift? Sie sprachen zu ihm: Des Kaisers!

They brought Him one. He asked them, “Whose picture is this? Whose name is on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”

17 D a antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: So gebet dem Kaiser, was des Kaisers ist, und Gott, was Gottes ist! Und sie verwunderten sich über ihn.

Then Jesus said to them, “Pay to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar. Pay to God the things that belong to God.” They were surprised and wondered at Him. They Ask about Being Raised from the Dead

18 D a traten die Sadduzäer zu ihm, die da halten, es sei keine Auferstehung; die fragten ihn und sprachen:

Some people from the religious group who believe no one will be raised from the dead came to Jesus. They asked Him,

19 M eister, Mose hat uns geschrieben: Wenn jemands Bruder stirbt und hinterläßt ein Weib, und hinterläßt keine Kinder, so soll sein Bruder sein Weib nehmen und seinem Bruder Samen erwecken.

“Teacher, Moses gave us a Law. It said, ‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves his wife behind, but no children, then his brother should marry his wife and raise children for his brother.’

20 N un sind sieben Brüder gewesen. Der erste nahm ein Weib; der starb und hinterließ keinen Samen.

There were seven brothers. The first was married. He died before he had any children.

21 U nd der andere nahm sie und starb und hinterließ auch nicht Samen. Der Dritte desgleichen.

The second married her and died. He had no children. The same happened with the third.

22 U nd es nahmen sie alle sieben und hinterließen nicht Samen. Zuletzt nach allen starb das Weib auch.

All seven had her for a wife. All died without children. Last of all the woman died.

23 N un in der Auferstehung, wenn sie auferstehen, wes Weib wird sie sein unter ihnen? Denn sieben haben sie zum Weibe gehabt.

When people are raised from the dead, whose wife will she be? All seven had her for a wife.”

24 D a antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Ist's nicht also? Ihr irrt darum, daß ihr nichts wisset von der Schrift noch von der Kraft Gottes.

Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you do not know the Holy Writings or the power of God?

25 W enn sie von den Toten auferstehen werden, so werden sie nicht freien noch sich freien lassen, sondern sie sind wie die Engel im Himmel.

When people are raised from the dead, they do not marry and are not given in marriage. They are like angels in heaven.

26 A ber von den Toten, daß sie auferstehen werden, habt ihr nicht gelesen im Buch Mose's bei dem Busch, wie Gott zu ihm sagte und sprach: "Ich bin der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs"?

As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses how God spoke to him in the burning bush? He said, ‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’

27 G ott aber ist nicht der Toten, sondern der Lebendigen Gott. Darum irrt ihr sehr.

He is not the God of the dead, He is the God of the living. So you are very much wrong.” The Great Law

28 U nd es trat zu ihm der Schriftgelehrten einer, der ihnen zugehört hatte, wie sie sich miteinander befragten, und sah, daß er ihnen fein geantwortet hatte, und fragte ihn: Welches ist das vornehmste Gebot vor allen?

Then one of the teachers of the Law heard them arguing. He thought Jesus had spoken well. He asked Him, “Which Law is the greatest of all?”

29 J esus aber antwortete ihm: Das vornehmste Gebot vor allen Geboten ist das: "Höre Israel, der HERR, unser Gott, ist ein einiger Gott;

Jesus said to him, “The greatest Law is this, ‘Listen, Jewish people, The Lord our God is one Lord!

30 u nd du sollst Gott, deinen HERRN, lieben von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele, von ganzem Gemüte und von allen deinen Kräften." Das ist das vornehmste Gebot.

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ This is the first Law.

31 U nd das andere ist ihm gleich: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst." Es ist kein anderes Gebot größer denn diese.

“The second Law is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other Law is greater than these.”

32 U nd der Schriftgelehrte sprach zu ihm: Meister, du hast wahrlich recht geredet; denn es ist ein Gott und ist kein anderer außer ihm.

Then the teacher of the Law said, “Teacher, You have told the truth. There is one God. There is no other God but Him.

33 U nd ihn lieben von ganzem Herzen, von ganzem Gemüte, von ganzer Seele, und von allen Kräften, und lieben seinen Nächsten wie sich selbst, das ist mehr denn Brandopfer und alle Opfer.

A man should love Him with all his heart and with all his understanding. He should love Him with all his soul and with all his strength and love his neighbor as himself. This is more important than to bring animals to be burned on the altar or to give God other gifts on the altar in worship.”

34 D a Jesus aber sah, daß er vernünftig antwortete, sprach er zu ihm: "Du bist nicht ferne von dem Reich Gottes." Und es wagte ihn niemand weiter zu fragen.

Jesus saw he had spoken with understanding. He said to him, “You are not far from the holy nation of God.” After that no one thought they could ask Him anything. Jesus Asks the Proud Religious Law-Keepers about the Christ

35 U nd Jesus antwortete und sprach, da er lehrte im Tempel: Wie sagen die Schriftgelehrten, Christus sei Davids Sohn?

Jesus was in the house of God teaching. He asked, “How do the teachers of the Law say that Christ is the Son of David?

36 E r aber, David, spricht durch den heiligen Geist: "Der HERR hat gesagt zu meinem Herrn: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis daß ich lege deine Feinde zum Schemel deiner Füße."

For David himself, led by the Holy Spirit, said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right side until I make those who hate You a place to rest Your feet.’

37 D a heißt ihn ja David seinen Herrn; woher ist er denn sein Sohn? Und viel Volks hörte ihn gern.

David himself calls Him Lord. Then how can He be his son?” Many people were glad to hear Him. False Teachers

38 U nd er lehrte sie und sprach zu ihnen: Sehet euch vor vor den Schriftgelehrten, die in langen Kleidern gehen und lassen sich gern auf dem Markte grüßen

Jesus taught them, saying, “Look out for the teachers of the Law. They like to walk around in long coats. They like to have the respect of men as they stand in the center of town where people gather.

39 u nd sitzen gern obenan in den Schulen und über Tisch beim Gastmahl;

They like to have the important seats in the places of worship and the important places at big suppers.

40 s ie fressen der Witwen Häuser und wenden langes Gebet vor. Diese werden desto mehr Verdammnis empfangen.

They take houses from poor women whose husbands have died. They cover up the bad they do by saying long prayers. They will be punished all the more.” The Woman Whose Husband Had Died Gave All She Had

41 U nd Jesus setzte sich gegen den Gotteskasten und schaute, wie das Volk Geld einlegte in den Gotteskasten; und viele Reiche legten viel ein.

Jesus sat near the money box in the house of God. He watched the people putting in money. Many of them were rich and gave much money.

42 U nd es kam eine arme Witwe und legte zwei Scherflein ein; die machen einen Heller.

A poor woman whose husband had died came by and gave two very small pieces of money.

43 U nd er rief seine Jünger zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: Diese arme Witwe hat mehr in den Gotteskasten gelegt denn alle, die eingelegt haben.

Jesus called His followers to Him. He said, “For sure, I tell you, this poor woman whose husband has died has given more money than all the others.

44 D enn sie haben alle von ihrem Überfluß eingelegt; diese aber hat von ihrer Armut alles, was sie hatte, ihre ganze Nahrung, eingelegt.

They all gave of that which was more than they needed for their own living. She is poor and yet she gave all she had, even what she needed for her own living.”
