1 O God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.

O God, do not keep quiet. Do not be quiet, O God, and do not hold Your peace.

2 F or behold, Your enemies make an uproar, And those who hate You have exalted themselves.

For, look, those who hate You are making much noise. Those who fight against You have honored themselves.

3 T hey make shrewd plans against Your people, And conspire together against Your treasured ones.

They make bad plans against Your people. They plan against those You care for.

4 T hey have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, That the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

They say, “Come, let us destroy them as a nation. Let the name of Israel be remembered no longer.”

5 F or they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant:

For they plan together with one mind. They make an agreement against You:

6 T he tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites;

The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagarites;

7 G ebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;

Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with those who live in Tyre;

8 A ssyria also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah.

Assyria has joined them also. They help the children of Lot.

9 D eal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon,

Do to them as You did to Midian, and to Sisera and Jabin at the river of Kishon.

10 W ho were destroyed at En-dor, Who became as dung for the ground.

They were destroyed at Endor. They were spread over the field.

11 M ake their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

Make their respected men like Oreb and Zeeb. Make their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

12 W ho said, “ Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God.”

who said, “Let us take for ourselves the fields of God.”

13 O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind.

O my God, make them like dust turning in the wind, like parts of the grass that have no worth and are blown away.

14 L ike fire that burns the forest And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire,

As the fire that burns up the trees and spreads over the mountains,

15 S o pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm.

so go behind them with Your storm. Make them afraid with Your storm.

16 F ill their faces with dishonor, That they may seek Your name, O Lord.

Fill their faces with shame, so they will look to Your name, O Lord.

17 L et them be ashamed and dismayed forever, And let them be humiliated and perish,

Let them be ashamed and afraid forever. Let them be put to shame and lost.

18 T hat they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, Are the Most High over all the earth.

Then they may know that You alone, Whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.
