1 O Lord, the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before You.
O Lord, the God Who saves me, I have cried out before You day and night.
2 L et my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry!
Let my prayer come to You. Listen to my cry.
3 F or my soul has had enough troubles, And my life has drawn near to Sheol.
For my soul is filled with troubles. And my life comes near the grave.
4 I am reckoned among those who go down to the pit; I have become like a man without strength,
I am added among those who go down into the deep hole. I am like a man without strength.
5 F orsaken among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And they are cut off from Your hand.
I am left among the dead, like those who have been killed and lie in the grave, whom You remember no more. They are cut off from Your help.
6 Y ou have put me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in the depths.
You have put me in the deepest hole, in a dark and deep place.
7 Y our wrath has rested upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah.
Your anger has rested upon me. And You have troubled me with all Your waves.
8 Y ou have removed my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an object of loathing to them; I am shut up and cannot go out.
You have taken my good friends far from me. You have made me hated by them. I am shut in and cannot go out.
9 M y eye has wasted away because of affliction; I have called upon You every day, O Lord; I have spread out my hands to You.
My eyes have become weak because of trouble. I have called to You every day, O Lord. I have spread out my hands to You.
10 W ill You perform wonders for the dead? Will the departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.
Will You show Your great works to the dead? Will the dead rise and praise You?
11 W ill Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon?
Will Your loving-kindness be told about in the grave, and how faithful You are in the place that destroys?
12 W ill Your wonders be made known in the darkness? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Will Your great works be known in the darkness, and Your right and good works in the land where all is forgotten?
13 B ut I, O Lord, have cried out to You for help, And in the morning my prayer comes before You.
But I have cried to You for help, O Lord. My prayer comes to You in the morning.
14 O Lord, why do You reject my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?
O Lord, why do You turn away from me? Why do You hide Your face from me?
15 I was afflicted and about to die from my youth on; I suffer Your terrors; I am overcome.
I have been troubled and near death since I was young. I have suffered Your punishment. And I cannot win.
16 Y our burning anger has passed over me; Your terrors have destroyed me.
Your burning anger has passed over me. The punishment You have sent destroys me.
17 T hey have surrounded me like water all day long; They have encompassed me altogether.
They gather around me like water all day long. Together they close in upon me.
18 Y ou have removed lover and friend far from me; My acquaintances are in darkness.
You have taken my friend and loved one far from me. Friends that were near to me are in darkness.
