Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

2 P oiché, ecco, i tuoi nemici tumultuano, e quelli che ti odiano alzano il capo.

For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

3 C ospirano insidie contro il tuo popolo e fanno complotti contro quelli che tu proteggi.

They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

4 D icono: «Venite e distruggiamoli come nazione, e il nome d'Israele non sia piú ricordato».

They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5 P oiché hanno complottato insieme con una sola mente e hanno fatto un patto contro di te.

For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

6 L e tende di Edom e gli Ismaeliti Moab e gli Hagareni.

the tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

7 G hebal, Ammon e Amalek, la Filistia con gli abitanti di Tiro;

Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8 a nche l'Assiria si è aggiunta a loro per dare aiuto ai figli di Lot. (Sela)

Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

9 A gisci con loro come facesti con Madian, con Sisera, con Jabin presso il torrente Kishon.

Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

10 i quali furono distrutti a Endor e divennero come letame per la terra.

which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11 R endi i loro capi come Oreb e Zeeb, e tutti i loro principi come Zebah e Tsalmunna.

Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12 P oiché hanno detto: «Impossessiamoci dei pascoli di DIO».

who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13 O DIO mio, rendili simili alla polvere del turbine, alla stoppia in balia del vento.

O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14 C ome il fuoco brucia la foresta e come la fiamma divora i monti.

As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 c osí inseguili con la tua tempesta e spaventali col tuo uragano.

so persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 C opri le loro facce di vergogna, affinché cerchino il tuo nome, o Eterno.

Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 S iano svergognati e pieni di spavento per sempre, siano confusi e periscano;

Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18 c onoscano che tu solo, il cui nome è l'Eterno, sei l'Altissimo su tutta la terra.

that men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
