1 P oi tutto il popolo di Giuda prese Uzziah, che aveva allora sedici anni, e lo fece re al posto di suo padre Amatsiah.

Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

2 E gli costruí Elath e la riconquistò Giuda, dopo che il re si fu addormentato con i suoi padri.

He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

3 U zziah aveva sedici anni quando iniziò a regnare, e regnò cinquantadue anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Jekoliah, ed era di Gerusalemme.

Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

4 E gli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno, in tutto come aveva fatto Amatsiah suo padre.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did.

5 E gli cercò DIO durante la vita di Zaccaria, che aveva intendimento delle visioni di DIO; finché cercò l'Eterno DIO, lo fece prosperare.

And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.

6 E gli uscí e fece guerra ai Filistei, abbattè le mura di Gath, le mura di Jabneh e le mura di Ashdod e costruí città nelle vicinanze di Ashdod e tra i Filistei.

And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

7 D IO lo aiutò contro i Filistei, contro gli Arabi che abitavano a Gur-Baal e contro i Meuniti.

And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.

8 G li Ammoniti pagavano un tributo a Uzziah; la sua fama si sparse fino ai confini dell'Egitto, perché era divenuto molto potente.

And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.

9 U zziah costruí pure delle torri a Gerusalemme alla porta dell'Angolo alla porta della Valle e sul Cantone delle mura e le fortificò.

Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.

10 E gli costruí torri anche nel deserto e scavò molti pozzi, perché aveva un gran numero di bestiame, tanto nella parte bassa del paese che nella pianura; aveva pure agricoltori e vignaiuoli sui monti e in Karmel perché amava la terra.

Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.

11 U zziah aveva inoltre un esercito di combattenti che andava alla guerra per schiere, secondo il numero registrato dal segretario Jeiel e dal commissario Maaseiah agli ordini di Hananiah, uno dei capitani del re.

Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.

12 I l numero totale dei capi delle case paterne, degli uomini forti e valorosi era di duemilaseicento.

The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.

13 S otto il loro comando c'era un esercito di trecentosettemilacinquecento uomini capaci di combattere con grande valore, per aiutare il re contro il nemico.

And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

14 U zziah forní a loro, cioè a tutto l'esercito, scudi, lance, elmi, corazze, archi, e fionde per scagliare sassi.

And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.

15 I n Gerusalemme, fece pure costruire alcune macchine da uomini esperti, che collocò sulle torri e sugli angoli, per scagliare frecce e grosse pietre. La sua fama giunse lontano, perché fu meravigliosamente aiutato finché divenne potente.

And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

16 M a, divenuto potente, il suo cuore si inorgoglí fino a corrompersi e peccò contro l'Eterno, il suo DIO, entrando nel tempio, dell'Eterno per bruciare incenso, sull'altare, dell'incenso.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17 D opo di lui entrò il sacerdote Azariah con ottanta sacerdoti dell'Eterno, uomini coraggiosi.

And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the Lord, that were valiant men:

18 E ssi si opposero al re Uzziah e gli dissero: «Non tocca a te, o Uzziah, offrire incenso all'Eterno, ma ai sacerdoti, figli di Aaronne, che sono consacrati per offrire l'incenso. Esci dal santuario, perché hai peccato! Questo non ti procurerà alcun onore da parte dell'Eterno DIO».

and they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the Lord God.

19 A llora Uzziah, che aveva in mano un turibolo per offrire l'incenso, si adirò; ma mentre si adirava contro i sacerdoti, sulla sua fronte scoppiò la lebbra, davanti ai sacerdoti, nella casa dell'Eterno, presso l'altare dell'incenso.

Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, from beside the incense altar.

20 I l sommo sacerdote Azariah e tutti gli altri sacerdoti si voltarono verso di lui, ed ecco, sulla sua fronte era lebbroso. Cosí lo fecero uscire in fretta ed egli stesso si affrettò ad uscire perché l'Eterno lo aveva colpito.

And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the Lord had smitten him.

21 I l re Uzziah fu lebbroso fino al giorno della sua morte e visse in una casa Isolata, perché era lebbroso, poiché era escluso dalla casa dell'Eterno, e suo figlio Jotham era sovrintendente del palazzo reale e rendeva giustizia al popolo del paese.

And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

22 I l resto delle gesta di Uzziah, dalle prime alle ultime, sono state scritte dal profeta Isaia, figlio di Amots.

Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

23 C osí Uzziah si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con i suoi padri nel campo delle sepolture che apparteneva ai re, perché si diceva: «è lebbroso». Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Jotham.

So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
