Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

2 A nche se Giuda prevalse sui suoi fratelli e da lui è disceso un capo, il diritto di primogenitura apparteneva a Giuseppe.

For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

3 I figli di Ruben primogenito d'Israele furono Hanok, Pallu, Hetsron e Karmi.

the sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

4 I figli di Joel furono Scemaiah, il cui figlio fu Gog, il cui figlio fu Scimei.

The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

5 i l cui figlio, fu Mikah, il cui figlio fu Reaiah, il cui figlio fu Baal

Micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son,

6 i l cui figlio fu Beerah, che fu condotto in cattività da Tilgath-Pilneser re di Assiria. Egli era principe dei Rubeniti.

Beerah his son, whom Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

7 I suoi fratelli, secondo le loro famiglie, come sono elencati nelle genealogie secondo le loro generazioni, furono: il primo Jeiel, poi Zaccaria.

And his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,

8 B ela, figlio di Azaz, figlio di Scema, figlio di Joel, che abitava in Aroer e fino al Nebo e a Baal-Meon.

and Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baal-meon:

9 E d essi si stabilirono a ovest giungendo fino all'inizio del deserto, da questa parte del fiume Eufrate, perché il loro bestiame si era moltiplicato nel paese di Galaad.

and eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

10 A l tempo di Saul mossero guerra agli Hagareni, che furono da loro sconfitti; quindi essi si stabilirono nelle loro tende, su tutta la parte a ovest di Galaad.

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

11 I figli di Gad dimoravano di fronte a loro nel paese di Bashan, fino a Salkah.

And the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salchah:

12 J oel era il capo, Shafam il secondo, poi Janai e Shafat in Bashan.

Joel the chief, and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

13 I loro fratelli, secondo le loro case paterne, furono: Mikael, Meshullam, Sceba. Jorai, Jakan, Zia e Eber, sette in tutto.

And their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

14 E ssi erano figli di Abihail, figlio di Huri, figlio di Jaroah, figlio di Galaad, figlio di Mikael, figlio di Jescishai, figlio di Jahdo, figlio di Buz

These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;

15 A hi, figlio di Abdiel, figlio di Guni, era il capo della loro casa paterna.

Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.

16 E ssi abitavano in Galaad e in Bashan, nei suoi villaggi e in tutti i terreni da pascolo di Sharon fin dove arrivavano.

And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their borders.

17 T utti questi furono registrati negli elenchi genealogici al tempo di Jotham re di Giuda e al tempo di Geroboamo re d'Israele.

All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

18 I figli di Ruben, i Gaditi e la mezza tribú di Manasse avevano quarantaquattromila settecentosessanta uomini valorosi, uomini che portavano scudo e spada, tiravano l'arco ed erano addestrati alla guerra e pronti ad andare a combattere.

The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.

19 E ssi mossero guerra agli Hagareni, a Jetur, a Nafish e a Nodab.

And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

20 E ssi furono aiutati contro di loro, perché durante il combattimento gridarono a DIO, che diede ascolto alla loro preghiera, poiché avevano avuto fiducia in lui; cosí gli Hagareni e tutti quelli che erano con loro furono dati nelle loro mani.

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

21 E ssi presero quindi il loro bestiame: cinquantamila cammelli, duecentocinquantamila pecore, duemila asini e centomila persone.

And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.

22 M olti infatti caddero uccisi, perché quella guerra era voluta da DIO. Essi si stabilirono quindi al loro posto fino alla cattività,

For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

23 C osí i figli della mezza tribú di Manasse abitarono nel paese; essi si estesero da Bashan fino a Baal-Hermon, a Senir e al monte Hermon.

And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baal-hermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.

24 Q uesti erano i capi delle loro case paterne: Efer, Isci, Eliel, Azriel, Geremia, Hodavia e Jahdiel, uomini forti e valorosi, uomini famosi, capi delle loro case paterne.

And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

25 M a furono infedeli al DIO dei loro padri e si prostituirono, seguendo gli dèi dei popoli del paese che DIO aveva distrutto davanti a loro.

And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

26 P erciò il DIO d'Israele eccitò lo spirito di Pul, re di Assiria cioe lo spirito di Tilgath-Pilneser, re di Assiria, che deportò i Rubeniti, i Gaditi e la mezza tribú di Manasse, e li stabilí a Halah, a Habor, a Hara e presso il fiume di Gozan, dove si trovano tutt'ora.

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
