Psalm 4 ~ Psalm 4

picture

1 A nswer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness (uprightness, justice, and right standing with You)! You have freed me when I was hemmed in and enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me and hear my prayer.

2 Y ou sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? Will you love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah.

O you sons of men, how long will you turn my honor and glory into shame? How long will you love vanity and futility and seek after lies? Selah!

3 B ut know that Yahweh has set apart for himself him who is godly: Yahweh will hear when I call to him.

But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly. The Lord listens and heeds when I call to Him.

4 S tand in awe, and don’t sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah.

Be angry and sin not; commune with your own hearts upon your beds and be silent (sorry for the things you say in your hearts). Selah!

5 O ffer the sacrifices of righteousness. Put your trust in Yahweh.

Offer just and right sacrifices; trust (lean on and be confident) in the Lord.

6 M any say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.

Many say, Oh, that we might see some good! Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord.

7 Y ou have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased.

You have put more joy and rejoicing in my heart than when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.

8 I n peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.
