1 A wake, awake! Put on your strength, Zion. Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city: for from now on the uncircumcised and the unclean will no more come into you.

Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.

2 S hake yourself from the dust! Arise, sit up, Jerusalem! Release yourself from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!

Shake yourself from the dust; arise, sit, O Jerusalem; loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.

3 F or Yahweh says, “You were sold for nothing; and you will be redeemed without money.”

For thus says the Lord: You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.

4 F or thus says the Lord Yahweh: “My people went down at the first into Egypt to live there: and the Assyrian has oppressed them without cause.

For thus says the Lord God: My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing.

5 Now therefore, what do I do here,” says Yahweh, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock,” says Yahweh, “and my name is blasphemed continually all the day.

But now what have I here, says the Lord, seeing that My people have been taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them howl, says the Lord, and My name continually is blasphemed all day long.

6 T herefore my people shall know my name. Therefore they shall know in that day that I am he who speaks. Behold, it is I.”

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

7 H ow beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!

8 Y our watchmen lift up their voice, together they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when Yahweh returns to Zion.

Hark, your watchmen lift up their voices; together they sing for joy; for they shall see eye to eye the return of the Lord to Zion.

9 B reak out into joy, sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem; for Yahweh has comforted his people. He has redeemed Jerusalem.

Break forth joyously, sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem!

10 Y ahweh has made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

The Lord has made bare His holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall witness the salvation of our God.

11 D epart, depart, go out from there; touch no unclean thing! Go out from among her! Cleanse yourselves, you who carry Yahweh’s vessels.

Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Go out of the midst of her; cleanse yourselves and be clean, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.

12 F or you shall not go out in haste, neither shall you go by flight: for Yahweh will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

For you will not go out with haste, nor will you go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

13 B ehold, my servant will deal wisely. He will be exalted and lifted up, and will be very high.

Behold, My Servant shall deal wisely and shall prosper; He shall be exalted and extolled and shall stand very high.

14 J ust as many were astonished at you (his appearance was marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),

His face and His whole appearance were marred more than any man’s, and His form beyond that of the sons of men—but just as many were astonished at Him,

15 s o he will cleanse many nations. Kings will shut their mouths at him: for they will see that which had not been told them; and they will understand that which they had not heard.

So shall He startle and sprinkle many nations, and kings shall shut their mouths because of Him; for that which has not been told them shall they see, and that which they have not heard shall they consider and understand.
