1 I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth!”

Then I heard a mighty voice from the temple sanctuary saying to the seven angels, Go and empty out on the earth the seven bowls of God’s wrath and indignation.

2 T he first went, and poured out his bowl into the earth, and it became a harmful and evil sore on the people who had the mark of the beast, and who worshiped his image.

So the first went and emptied his bowl on the earth, and foul and painful ulcers (sores) came on the people who were marked with the stamp of the beast and who did homage to his image.

3 T he second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man. Every living thing in the sea died.

The second emptied his bowl into the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a corpse, and every living thing that was in the sea perished.

4 T he third poured out his bowl into the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood.

Then the third emptied out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they turned into (became) blood.

5 I heard the angel of the waters saying, “You are righteous, who are and who were, you Holy One, because you have judged these things.

And I also heard the angel of the waters say, Righteous (just) are You in these Your decisions and judgments, You Who are and were, O Holy One!

6 F or they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve this.”

Because they have poured out the blood of Your people (the saints) and the prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. Such is their due!

7 I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are your judgments.”

And the altar I heard cry, Yes, Lord God the Omnipotent, Your judgments (sentences, decisions) are true and just and righteous!

8 T he fourth poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given to him to scorch men with fire.

Then the fourth emptied out his bowl upon the sun, and it was permitted to burn (scorch) humanity with heat (fire).

9 P eople were scorched with great heat, and people blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues. They didn’t repent and give him glory.

People were severely burned (scorched) by the fiery heat, and they reviled and blasphemed the name of God, Who has control of these plagues, and they did not repent of their sins to give Him glory.

10 T he fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was darkened. They gnawed their tongues because of the pain,

Then the fifth emptied his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was in darkness; and people gnawed their tongues for the torment

11 a nd they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They didn’t repent of their works.

And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their anguish and their ulcers (sores), and they did not deplore their wicked deeds or repent.

12 T he sixth poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates. Its water was dried up, that the way might be prepared for the kings that come from the sunrise.

Then the sixth emptied his bowl on the mighty river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to make ready a road for the kings of the east (from the rising sun).

13 I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, something like frogs;

And I saw three loathsome spirits like frogs, from the mouth of the dragon and from the mouth of the beast and from the mouth of the false prophet.

14 f or they are spirits of demons, performing signs; which go out to the kings of the whole inhabited earth, to gather them together for the war of that great day of God, the Almighty.

For really they are the spirits of demons that perform signs (wonders, miracles). And they go forth to the rulers and leaders all over the world, to gather them together for war on the great day of God the Almighty.

15 Behold, I come like a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his clothes, so that he doesn’t walk naked, and they see his shame.”

Behold, I am going to come like a thief! Blessed (happy, to be envied) is he who stays awake (alert) and who guards his clothes, so that he may not be naked and seen exposed!

16 H e gathered them together into the place which is called in Hebrew, Megiddo.

And they gathered them together at the place which in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

17 T he seventh poured out his bowl into the air. A loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

Then the seventh emptied out his bowl into the air, and a mighty voice came out of the sanctuary of heaven from the throne, saying, It is done!

18 T here were lightnings, sounds, and thunders; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since there were men on the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty.

And there followed lightning flashes, loud rumblings, peals of thunder, and a tremendous earthquake; nothing like it has ever occurred since men dwelt on the earth, so severe and far-reaching was that earthquake.

19 T he great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

The mighty city was broken into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And God kept in mind mighty Babylon, to make her drain the cup of His furious wrath and indignation.

20 E very island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

And every island fled and no mountains could be found.

21 G reat hailstones, about the weight of a talent, came down out of the sky on people. People blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, for this plague is exceedingly severe.

And great (excessively oppressive) hailstones, as heavy as a talent, of immense size, fell from the sky on the people; and men blasphemed God for the plague of the hail, so very great was of that plague.
