Revelation 16 ~ Revelation 16

1 A nd I heard a great voice out of the sanctuary saying to the seven messengers, `Go away, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God to the earth;'

Then I heard a mighty voice from the temple sanctuary saying to the seven angels, Go and empty out on the earth the seven bowls of God’s wrath and indignation.

2 a nd the first did go away, and did pour out his vial upon the land, and there came a sore -- bad and grievous -- to men, those having the mark of the beast, and those bowing to his image.

So the first went and emptied his bowl on the earth, and foul and painful ulcers (sores) came on the people who were marked with the stamp of the beast and who did homage to his image.

3 A nd the second messenger did pour out his vial to the sea, and there came blood as of dead, and every living soul died in the sea.

The second emptied his bowl into the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a corpse, and every living thing that was in the sea perished.

4 A nd the third messenger did pour out his vial to the rivers, and to the fountains of the waters, and there came blood,

Then the third emptied out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they turned into (became) blood.

5 a nd I heard the messenger of the waters, saying, `righteous, O Lord, art Thou, who art, and who wast, and who shalt be, because these things Thou didst judge,

And I also heard the angel of the waters say, Righteous (just) are You in these Your decisions and judgments, You Who are and were, O Holy One!

6 b ecause blood of saints and prophets they did pour out, and blood to them Thou didst give to drink, for they are worthy;'

Because they have poured out the blood of Your people (the saints) and the prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. Such is their due!

7 a nd I heard another out of the altar, saying, `Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous Thy judgments.'

And the altar I heard cry, Yes, Lord God the Omnipotent, Your judgments (sentences, decisions) are true and just and righteous!

8 A nd the fourth messenger did pour out his vial upon the sun, and there was given to him to scorch men with fire,

Then the fourth emptied out his bowl upon the sun, and it was permitted to burn (scorch) humanity with heat (fire).

9 a nd men were scorched with great heat, and they did speak evil of the name of God, who hath authority over these plagues, and they did not reform -- to give to Him glory.

People were severely burned (scorched) by the fiery heat, and they reviled and blasphemed the name of God, Who has control of these plagues, and they did not repent of their sins to give Him glory.

10 A nd the fifth messenger did pour out his vial upon the throne of the beast, and his kingdom did become darkened, and they were gnawing their tongues from the pain,

Then the fifth emptied his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was in darkness; and people gnawed their tongues for the torment

11 a nd they did speak evil of the God of the heaven, from their pains, and from their sores, and they did not reform from their works.

And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their anguish and their ulcers (sores), and they did not deplore their wicked deeds or repent.

12 A nd the sixth messenger did pour out his vial upon the great river, the Euphrates, and dried up was its water, that the way of the kings who are from the rising of the sun may be made ready;

Then the sixth emptied his bowl on the mighty river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to make ready a road for the kings of the east (from the rising sun).

13 a nd I saw out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs --

And I saw three loathsome spirits like frogs, from the mouth of the dragon and from the mouth of the beast and from the mouth of the false prophet.

14 f or they are spirits of demons, doing signs -- which go forth unto the kings of the earth, and of the whole world, to bring them together to the battle of that great day of God the Almighty; --

For really they are the spirits of demons that perform signs (wonders, miracles). And they go forth to the rulers and leaders all over the world, to gather them together for war on the great day of God the Almighty.

15 ` lo, I do come as a thief; happy he who is watching, and keeping his garments, that he may not walk naked, and they may see his unseemliness,' --

Behold, I am going to come like a thief! Blessed (happy, to be envied) is he who stays awake (alert) and who guards his clothes, so that he may not be naked and seen exposed!

16 a nd they did bring them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.

And they gathered them together at the place which in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

17 A nd the seventh messenger did pour out his vial to the air, and there came forth a great voice from the sanctuary of the heaven, from the throne, saying, `It hath come!'

Then the seventh emptied out his bowl into the air, and a mighty voice came out of the sanctuary of heaven from the throne, saying, It is done!

18 a nd there came voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and a great earthquake came, such as came not since men came upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake -- so great!

And there followed lightning flashes, loud rumblings, peals of thunder, and a tremendous earthquake; nothing like it has ever occurred since men dwelt on the earth, so severe and far-reaching was that earthquake.

19 A nd it came -- the great city -- into three parts, and the cities of the nations did fall, and Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the wrath of His anger,

The mighty city was broken into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And God kept in mind mighty Babylon, to make her drain the cup of His furious wrath and indignation.

20 a nd every island did flee away, and mountains were not found,

And every island fled and no mountains could be found.

21 a nd great hail (as of talent weight) doth come down out of the heaven upon men, and men did speak evil of God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague is very great.

And great (excessively oppressive) hailstones, as heavy as a talent, of immense size, fell from the sky on the people; and men blasphemed God for the plague of the hail, so very great was of that plague.
