1 A nd it cometh to pass after this, that David smiteth the Philistines, and humbleth them, and taketh Gath and its small towns out of the hand of the Philistines;
After this, David smote and subdued the Philistines, and took Gath and its villages out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 a nd he smiteth Moab, and the Moabites are servants to David, bringing a present.
He smote Moab, and the Moabites became David’s servants and brought tribute.
3 A nd David smiteth Hadarezer king of Zobah, at Hamath, in his going to establish his power by the river Phrat,
Also David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah toward Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
4 a nd David captureth from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, and David destroyeth utterly all the chariots, and leaveth of them a hundred chariots.
David took from him 1, 000 chariots, 7, 000 horsemen, and 20, 000 foot soldiers. David also hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved enough for 100 chariots.
5 A nd Aram of Damascus cometh in to give help to Hadarezer king of Zobah, and David smiteth in Aram twenty and two thousand men,
When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians 22, 000 men.
6 a nd David putteth in Aram of Damascus, and the Aramaeans are to David for servants, bearing a present, and Jehovah giveth salvation to David whithersoever he hath gone.
Then David put garrisons in Syria, Damascus; the Syrians became David’s servants and brought tribute. Thus the Lord preserved and gave victory to David wherever he went.
7 A nd David taketh the shields of gold that have been on the servants of Hadarezer, and bringeth them in to Jerusalem;
David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 a nd from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, hath David taken very much brass; with it hath Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
Likewise from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David brought very much bronze, with which Solomon later made the bronze laver, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.
9 A nd Tou king of Hamath heareth that David hath smitten the whole force of Hadarezer king of Zobah,
When Tou king of Hamath heard how David had defeated all the hosts of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
10 a nd he sendeth Hadoram his son unto king David, to ask of him of peace, and to bless him (because that he hath fought against Hadarezer, and smiteth him, for a man of wars with Tou had Hadarezer been,) and all kinds of vessels, of gold, and silver, and brass;
He sent Hadoram his son to King David to salute him and to congratulate him because he had fought and defeated Hadadezer, for Hadadezer had had wars with Tou. And Hadoram brought with him all manner of vessels of gold, silver, and bronze.
11 a lso them hath king David sanctified to Jehovah with the silver and the gold that he hath taken from all the nations, from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
King David dedicated them also to the Lord, with the silver and the gold he brought from all these nations: Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and the Amalekites.
12 A nd Abishai son of Zeruiah hath smitten Edom in the valley of salt -- eighteen thousand,
Also Abishai son of Zeruiah slew 18, 000 of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
13 a nd he putteth in Edom garrisons, and all the Edomites are servants to David; and Jehovah saveth David whithersoever he hath gone.
He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the Lord preserved and gave victory to David wherever he went.
14 A nd David reigneth over all Israel, and he is doing judgment and righteousness to all his people,
So David reigned over all Israel and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
15 a nd Joab son of Zeruiah over the host, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud remembrancer,
Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
16 a nd Zadok son of Ahitub, and Abimelech son of Abiathar, priests, and Shavsha scribe,
Zadok son of Ahitub and Abimelech son of Abiathar were the priests; and Shavsha was secretary;
17 a nd Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the Cherethite and the Pelethite, and the elder sons of David at the hand of the king.
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chiefs next to the king.
