1 A nd Moses calleth unto all Israel, and saith unto them, `Hear, Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I am speaking in your ears to-day, and ye have learned them, and have observed to do them.

And Moses called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances which I speak in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take heed and do them.

2 J ehovah our God made with us a covenant in Horeb;

The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 n ot with our fathers hath Jehovah made this covenant, but with us; we -- these -- here to-day -- all of us alive.

The Lord made this covenant not with our fathers, but with us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4 F ace to face hath Jehovah spoken with you, in the mount, out of the midst of the fire;

The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mount out of the midst of the fire.

5 I am standing between Jehovah and you, at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah, for ye have been afraid from the presence of the fire, and ye have not gone up into the mount; saying:

I stood between the Lord and you at that time to show you the word of the Lord, for you were afraid because of the fire and went not up into the mount. He said,

6 ` I Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants.

I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7 ` Thou hast no other gods in My presence.

You shall have no other gods before Me or besides Me.

8 ` Thou dost not make to thee a graven image, any similitude which in the heavens above, and which in the earth beneath, and which in the waters under the earth;

You shall not make for yourself a graven image or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth.

9 t hou dost not bow thyself to them nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on children, and on a third, and on a fourth, to those hating Me;

You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

10 a nd doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me, and to those keeping My commands.

And showing mercy and steadfast love to thousands and to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

11 ` Thou dost not take up the Name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah doth not acquit him who taketh up His Name for a vain thing.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in falsehood or without purpose.

12 ` Observe the day of the sabbath -- to sanctify it, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;

Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.

13 s ix days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

14 a nd the seventh day a sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thine ox, and thine ass, and all thy cattle, and thy sojourner who within thy gates; so that thy man-servant, and thy handmaid doth rest like thyself;

But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, or your manservant or your maidservant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the stranger or sojourner who is within your gates, that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you.

15 a nd thou hast remembered that a servant thou hast been in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah thy God is bringing thee out thence by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm; therefore hath Jehovah thy God commanded thee to keep the day of the sabbath.

And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to observe and take heed to the Sabbath day.

16 ` Honour thy father and thy mother, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee, so that thy days are prolonged, and so that it is well with thee, on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

17 ` Thou dost not murder.

You shall not murder.

18 ` Thou dost not commit adultery.

Neither shall you commit adultery.

19 ` Thou dost not steal.

Neither shall you act slyly or steal.

20 ` Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour -- a false testimony.

Neither shall you witness falsely against your neighbor.

21 ` Thou dost not desire thy neighbour's wife; nor dost thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, and his man-servant, and his handmaid, his ox, and his ass, and anything which thy neighbour's.

Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife, nor desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his manservant or his maidservant, his ox or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.

22 ` These words hath Jehovah spoken unto all your assembly, in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness -- a great voice; and He hath not added, and He writeth them on two tables of stone, and giveth them unto me.

These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He spoke not again. He wrote them on two tables of stone and gave them to me.

23 ` And it cometh to pass as ye hear the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and of the mountain burning with fire, that ye come near unto me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders,

And when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders;

24 a nd say, Lo, Jehovah our God hath shewed us His honour, and His greatness; and His voice we have heard out of the midst of the fire; this day we have seen that God doth speak with man -- and he hath lived.

And you said, Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire; we have this day seen that God speaks with man and man still lives.

25 ` And, now, why do we die? for consume us doth this great fire -- if we add to hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more -- then we have died.

Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, we shall die.

26 F or who of all flesh he who hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire like us -- and doth live?

For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire, as we have, and lived?

27 D raw near thou, and hear all that which Jehovah our God saith, and thou, thou dost speak unto us all that which Jehovah our God speaketh unto thee, and we have hearkened, and done it.

Go near and hear all that the Lord our God will say. And speak to us all that the Lord our God will speak to you; and we will hear and do it.

28 ` And Jehovah heareth the voice of your words, in your speaking unto me, and Jehovah saith unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee; they have done well all that they have spoken.

And the Lord heard your words when you spoke to me and the Lord said to me, I have heard the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have said well all that they have spoken.

29 O that their heart had been thus to them, to fear Me, and to keep My commands all the days, that it may be well with them, and with their sons -- to the age!

Oh, that they had such a heart in them always to fear Me and keep all My commandments, that it might go well with them and with their children forever!

30 ` Go, say to them, Turn back for yourselves, to your tents;

Go and say to them, Return to your tents.

31 a nd thou here stand thou with Me, and let Me speak unto thee all the command, and the statutes, and the judgments which thou dost teach them, and they have done in the land which I am giving to them to possess it.

But you, stand here by Me, and I will tell you all the commandments and the statutes and the precepts which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.

32 ` And ye have observed to do as Jehovah your God hath commanded you, ye turn not aside -- right or left;

Therefore you people shall be watchful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 i n all the way which Jehovah your God hath commanded you ye walk, so that ye live, and well with you, and ye have prolonged days in the land which ye possess.

You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land which you shall possess.
