1 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of two years of days that Pharaoh is dreaming, and lo, he is standing by the River,
After two full years, Pharaoh dreamed that he stood by the river.
2 a nd lo, from the River coming up are seven kine, of fair appearance, and fat flesh, and they feed among the reeds;
And behold, there came up out of the river seven well-favored cows, sleek and handsome and fat; and they grazed in the reed grass.
3 a nd lo, seven other kine are coming up after them out of the River, of bad appearance, and lean flesh, and they stand near the kine on the edge of the River,
And behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill favored and gaunt and ugly, and stood by the fat cows on the bank of the river.
4 a nd the kine of bad appearance and lean flesh eat up the seven kine of fair appearance, and fat -- and Pharaoh awaketh.
And the ill-favored, gaunt, and ugly cows ate up the seven well-favored and fat cows. Then Pharaoh awoke.
5 A nd he sleepeth, and dreameth a second time, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, fat and good,
But he slept and dreamed the second time; and behold, seven ears of grain came out on one stalk, plump and good.
6 a nd lo, seven ears, thin, and blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;
And behold, after them seven ears sprouted, thin and blighted by the east wind.
7 a nd the thin ears swallow the seven fat and full ears -- and Pharaoh awaketh, and lo, a dream.
And the seven thin ears devoured the seven plump and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.
8 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that his spirit is moved, and he sendeth and calleth all the scribes of Egypt, and all its wise men, and Pharaoh recounteth to them his dream, and there is no interpreter of them to Pharaoh.
So when morning came his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians and all the wise men of Egypt. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but not one could interpret them to.
9 A nd the chief of the butlers speaketh with Pharaoh, saying, `My sin I mention this day:
Then the chief butler said to Pharaoh, I remember my faults today.
10 P haraoh hath been wroth against his servants, and giveth me into charge in the house of the chief of the executioners, me and the chief of the bakers;
When Pharaoh was angry with his servants and put me in custody in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker,
11 a nd we dream a dream in one night, I and he, each according to the interpretation of his dream we have dreamed.
We dreamed a dream in the same night, he and I; we dreamed each of us according to the interpretation of his dream.
12 A nd there with us a youth, a Hebrew, servant to the chief of the executioners, and we recount to him, and he interpreteth to us our dreams, each according to his dream hath he interpreted,
And there was there with us a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard and chief executioner; and we told him our dreams, and he interpreted them to us, to each man according to the significance of his dream.
13 a nd it cometh to pass, as he hath interpreted to us so it hath been, me he put back on my station, and him he hanged.'
And as he interpreted to us, so it came to pass; I was restored to my office, and the baker was hanged.
14 A nd Pharaoh sendeth and calleth Joseph, and they cause him to run out of the pit, and he shaveth, and changeth his garments, and cometh in unto Pharaoh.
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. But Joseph shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence.
15 A nd Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `A dream I have dreamed, and there is no interpreter of it, and I -- I have heard concerning thee, saying, Thou understandest a dream to interpret it,'
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it; and I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream and interpret it.
16 a nd Joseph answereth Pharaoh, saying, `Without me -- God doth answer Pharaoh with peace.'
Joseph answered Pharaoh, It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a answer of peace.
17 A nd Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph: `In my dream, lo, I am standing by the edge of the River,
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood on the bank of the river;
18 a nd lo, out of the River coming up are seven kine, fat flesh, and of fair form, and they feed among the reeds;
And behold, there came up out of the river seven fat, sleek, and handsome cows, and they grazed in the reed grass.
19 a nd lo, seven other kine are coming up after them, thin, and of very bad form, and lean flesh; I have not seen like these in all the land of Egypt for badness.
And behold, seven other cows came up after them, undernourished, gaunt, and ugly as I have never seen in all of Egypt.
20 ` And the lean and the bad kine eat up the first seven fat kine,
And the lean and ill favored cows ate up the seven fat cows that had come first.
21 a nd they come in unto their midst, and it hath not been known that they have come in unto their midst, and their appearance bad as at the commencement; and I awake.
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be detected and known that they had eaten them, for they were still as thin and emaciated as at the beginning. Then I awoke.
22 ` And I see in my dream, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, full and good;
And I saw in my dream, and behold, seven ears growing on one stalk, plump and good.
23 a nd lo, seven ears, withered, thin, blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;
And behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them.
24 a nd the thin ears swallow the seven good ears; and I tell unto the scribes, and there is none declaring to me.'
And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears. Now I told this to the magicians, but there was no one who could tell me what it meant.
25 A nd Joseph saith unto Pharaoh, `The dream of Pharaoh is one: that which God is doing he hath declared to Pharaoh;
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dreams are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
26 t he seven good kine are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years, the dream is one;
The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dreams are one.
27 a nd the seven thin and bad kine which are coming up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears, blasted with an east wind, are seven years of famine;
And the seven thin and ill favored cows that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty ears, blighted and shriveled by the east wind; they are seven years of hunger and famine.
28 t his the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: That which God is doing, he hath shewn Pharaoh.
This is the message just as I have told Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
29 ` Lo, seven years are coming of great abundance in all the land of Egypt,
Take note! Seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt are coming.
30 a nd seven years of famine have arisen after them, and all the plenty is forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine hath finished the land,
Then there will come seven years of hunger and famine, and all the great abundance of the previous years will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and hunger (destitution, starvation) will exhaust (consume, finish) the land.
31 a nd the plenty is not known in the land because of that famine afterwards, for it very grievous.
And the plenty will become quite unknown in the land because of that following famine, for it will be very woefully severe.
32 ` And because of the repeating of the dream unto Pharaoh twice, surely the thing is established by God, and God is hastening to do it.
That the dream was sent twice to Pharaoh and in two forms indicates that this thing which God will very soon bring to pass is fully prepared and established by God.
33 ` And now, let Pharaoh provide a man, intelligent and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt;
So now let Pharaoh seek out and provide a man discreet, understanding, proficient, and wise and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 l et Pharaoh make and appoint overseers over the land, and receive a fifth of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty,
Let Pharaoh do this; then let him select and appoint officers over the land, and take one-fifth of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
35 a nd they gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and heap up corn under the hand of Pharaoh -- food in the cities; and they have kept,
And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and lay up grain under the direction and authority of Pharaoh, and let them retain food in the cities.
36 a nd the food hath been for a store for the land, for the seven years of famine which are in the land of Egypt; and the land is cut off by the famine.'
And that food shall be put in store for the country against the seven years of hunger and famine that are to come upon the land of Egypt, so that the land may not be ruined and cut off by the famine.
37 A nd the thing is good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants,
And the plan seemed good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 a nd Pharaoh saith unto his servants, `Do we find like this, a man in whom the spirit of God ?'
And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find this man’s equal, a man in whom is the spirit of God?
39 a nd Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `After God's causing thee to know all this, there is none intelligent and wise as thou;
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Forasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is nobody as intelligent and discreet and understanding and wise as you are.
40 t hou -- thou art over my house, and at thy mouth do all my people kiss; only in the throne I am greater than thou.'
You shall have charge over my house, and all my people shall be governed according to your word. Only in matters of the throne will I be greater than you are.
41 A nd Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `See, I have put thee over all the land of Egypt.'
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.
42 A nd Pharaoh turneth aside his seal-ring from off his hand, and putteth it on the hand of Joseph, and clotheth him garments of fine linen, and placeth a chain of gold on his neck,
And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck;
43 a nd causeth him to ride in the second chariot which he hath, and they proclaim before him, `Bow the knee!' and -- to put him over all the land of Egypt.
He made him to ride in the second chariot which he had, and cried before him, Bow the knee! And he set him over all the land of Egypt.
44 A nd Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `I Pharaoh, and without thee a man doth not lift up his hand and his foot in all the land of Egypt;'
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 a nd Pharaoh calleth Joseph's name Zaphnath-Paaneah, and he giveth to him Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, for a wife, and Joseph goeth out over the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-paneah and he gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be his wife. And Joseph made an tour of all the land of Egypt.
46 A nd Joseph a son of thirty years in his standing before Pharaoh king of Egypt, and Joseph goeth out from the presence of Pharaoh, and passeth over through all the land of Egypt;
Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt.
47 a nd the land maketh in the seven years of plenty by handfuls.
In the seven abundant years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
48 A nd he gathereth all the food of the seven years which have been in the land of Egypt, and putteth food in the cities; the food of the field which round about city hath he put in its midst;
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years in the land of Egypt and stored up the food in the cities; he stored away in each city the food from the fields around it.
49 a nd Joseph gathereth corn as sand of the sea, multiplying exceedingly, until that he hath ceased to number, for there is no number.
And Joseph gathered grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it could not be measured.
50 A nd to Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine cometh, whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, hath borne to him,
Now to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On, bore to him.
51 a nd Joseph calleth the name of the first-born Manasseh: `for, God hath made me to forget all my labour, and all the house of my father;'
And Joseph called the firstborn Manasseh, For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil and hardship and all my father’s house.
52 a nd the name of the second he hath called Ephraim: `for, God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of mine affliction.'
And the second he called Ephraim, For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53 A nd the seven years of plenty are completed which have been in the land of Egypt,
When the seven years of plenty were ended in the land of Egypt,
54 a nd the seven years of famine begin to come, as Joseph said, and famine is in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt hath been bread;
The seven years of scarcity and famine began to come, as Joseph had said they would; the famine was in all lands, but in all of Egypt there was food.
55 a nd all the land of Egypt is famished, and the people crieth unto Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh saith to all the Egyptians, `Go unto Joseph; that which he saith to you -- do.'
But when all the land of Egypt was weakened with hunger, the people cried to Pharaoh for food; and Pharaoh said to all, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do.
56 A nd the famine has been over all the face of the land, and Joseph openeth all which have in them, and selleth to the Egyptians; and the famine is severe in the land of Egypt,
When the famine was over all the land, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians; for the famine grew extremely distressing in the land of Egypt.
57 a nd all the earth hath come to Egypt, to buy, unto Joseph, for the famine was severe in all the earth.
And all countries came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe over all earth.
