1 P or tanto, Job, oye ahora mis razones, Y escucha todas mis palabras.

Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

2 H e aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, Y mi lengua habla ya en mi paladar.

Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

3 M is razones declararán la sinceridad de mi corazón, Y lo que saben mis labios, lo hablarán con claridad.

My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

4 E l espíritu de Dios me hizo, Y el soplo del Omnipotente me dio vida.

The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

5 R espóndeme si puedes; Ordena tus palabras, ponte en pie.

If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

6 Y o estoy delante de Dios en el mismo lugar que tú; De arcilla fui yo también formado.

Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

7 H e aquí, mi terror no te espantará, Ni mi mano se agravará contra ti.

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

8 D e cierto tú dijiste a oídos míos, Y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:

Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

9 Y o soy limpio y sin defecto; Soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.

I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

10 P ero Dios buscó reproches contra mí, Y me tiene por su enemigo;

Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

11 P uso mis pies en el cepo, Y vigiló todas mis sendas.

he putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

12 P ues mira, en esto no has hablado justamente; Yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.

Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

13 ¿ Por qué contiendes contra él, de que él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones?

Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

14 S in embargo, de una o de otra manera habla Dios; Pero el hombre no entiende.

For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

15 P or sueño, en visión nocturna, Cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, Cuando se adormece sobre el lecho,

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16 E ntonces revela al oído de los hombres, Y les señala su consejo,

then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

17 P ara quitar al hombre de su obra, Y apartar del varón la soberbia.

that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

18 P ara librar su alma del sepulcro, Y su vida de que perezca a espada.

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

19 T ambién sobre su cama es corregido por el dolor, Con el temblor continuo de todos sus huesos,

He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

20 Q ue le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, Y su alma la comida suave.

So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

21 S u carne desfallece, de manera que no se ve, Y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.

His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

22 S u alma se acerca al sepulcro, Y su vida a la morada de los muertos.

Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

23 S i tuviese cerca de él Algún elocuente mensajero muy escogido, Que anuncie al hombre su deber;

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

24 Q ue le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, Que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, Que halló redención;

then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

25 S u carne se tornará más tierna que la de un niño, Volverá a los días de su juventud.

His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:

26 O rará a Dios, y éste le otorgará su favor. Verá su faz con júbilo, Y él restaurará al hombre su justicia.

he shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

27 L uego, éste cantará entre los hombres y dirá: Pequé y me desvié de lo recto, pero Dios no me ha hecho según lo que yo merecía;

He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

28 A ntes bien, ha librado a mi alma de pasar al sepulcro, Y mi vida ve ya la luz.

he will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

29 H e aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios Dos y tres veces con el hombre,

Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

30 P ara retraer su alma del sepulcro, Y para iluminarlo con la luz de la vida.

to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 E scucha, Job, y óyeme; Calla, y yo hablaré.

Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

32 S i tienes razones, respóndeme; Habla, porque yo querría darte la razón.

If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

33 Y si no, óyeme tú a mí; Calla, y te enseñaré la sabiduría.

If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
