1 H ijo mío, si recibes mis palabras, Y guardas mis mandamientos dentro de ti,

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2 H aciendo estar atento tu oído a la sabiduría; Si inclinas tu corazón a la prudencia,

so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3 S i clamas a la inteligencia, Y a la prudencia das voces;

yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4 S i como a la plata la buscas, Y la rebuscas como a tesoros,

if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5 E ntonces entenderás el temor de Jehová, Y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios.

then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6 P orque Jehová da la sabiduría, Y de su boca nacen el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

7 É l provee de sana sabiduría a los rectos; Es escudo para los que caminan rectamente.

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

8 E s el que custodia las veredas de la equidad, Y preserva el camino de sus santos.

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

9 E ntonces entenderás justicia, juicio Y equidad, y todo buen camino.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

10 C uando la sabiduría entre en tu corazón, Y la ciencia sea grata a tu alma,

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

11 L a discreción te guardará; Te protegerá la inteligencia,

discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

12 P ara librarte del mal camino, De los hombres que hablan perversidades,

to deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

13 Q ue dejan los caminos derechos, Para andar por sendas tenebrosas;

who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

14 Q ue se alegran haciendo el mal, Que se complacen en las perversidades del vicio;

who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

15 C uyas veredas son tortuosas, Y sus caminos llenos de rodeos.

whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

16 S erás librado de la mujer extraña, De la ajena que halaga con sus palabras,

to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

17 L a cual abandona al compañero de su juventud, Y se olvida del pacto de su Dios.

which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

18 P or lo cual su casa está inclinada hacia la muerte, Y sus veredas hacia las sombras de muerte;

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

19 T odos los que a ella se lleguen, no volverán, Ni alcanzarán otra vez los senderos de la vida.

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

20 A sí andarás por el camino de los buenos, Y seguirás las veredas de los justos;

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

21 P orque los rectos habitarán la tierra, Y los íntegros permanecerán en ella,

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

22 M as los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, Y los prevaricadores serán desarraigados de ella.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
