1 P rocurad alcanzar el amor; y desead con celo los dones espirituales, especialmente que profeticéis.

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2 P orque el que habla en lenguas, no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios; pues nadie le entiende, sino que en espíritu habla misterios.

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3 P ero el que profetiza, habla a los hombres para edificación, exhortación y consolación.

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 E l que habla en lenguas, a sí mismo se edifica; pero el que profetiza, edifica a la iglesia.

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 A sí que, querría que todos vosotros hablaseis en lenguas, pero más que profetizaseis; porque el que profetiza es superior al que habla en lenguas, a no ser que las interprete para que la iglesia reciba edificación.

I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6 A sí pues, hermanos, si yo voy a vosotros hablando en lenguas, ¿de qué provecho os seré, si no os hablo con revelación, o con ciencia, o con profecía, o con enseñanza?

Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

7 C iertamente las cosas inanimadas que producen sonidos, como la flauta o la cítara, si no dan distinción de notas, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se toca con la flauta o con la cítara?

And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

8 Y si la trompeta da un sonido confuso, ¿quién se preparará para la batalla?

For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

9 A sí también vosotros, si por la lengua no dais palabra bien comprensible, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que decís? Porque hablaréis al aire.

So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

10 T antas clases de lenguas hay, seguramente, en el mundo, y ninguna de ellas carece de significado.

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

11 P ero si yo ignoro el valor de las palabras, seré como extranjero para el que habla, y el que habla será como extranjero para mí.

Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

12 A sí también vosotros; pues que anheláis dones espirituales, procurad abundar en ellos para edificación de la iglesia.

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

13 P or lo cual, el que habla en lenguas, pida en oración poder interpretarlas.

Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 P orque si oro en lenguas, mi espíritu ora, pero mi entendimiento queda sin fruto.

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 ¿ Qué, pues? Oraré con el espíritu, pero oraré también con el entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, pero cantaré también con el entendimiento.

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 P orque si bendices sólo con el espíritu, el que ocupa lugar de oyente sencillo, ¿cómo dirá el Amén a tu acción de gracias?; pues no sabe lo que estás diciendo.

Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

17 P orque tú, a la verdad, das gracias bien; pero el otro no es edificado.

For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18 D oy gracias a Dios de que hablo en lenguas más que todos vosotros;

I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

19 p ero en la iglesia prefiero hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento, para instruir también a otros, que diez mil palabras en lenguas.

yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

20 H ermanos, no seáis niños en el modo de pensar, sino sed niños en la malicia, pero maduros en el modo de pensar.

Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

21 E n la ley está escrito: En otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré a este pueblo; y ni aun así me escucharán, dice el Señor.

In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

22 A sí que, las lenguas son por señal, no a los creyentes, sino a los incrédulos; pero la profecía, no a los incrédulos, sino a los creyentes.

Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

23 S i, pues, toda la iglesia se reúne en un solo lugar, y todos hablan en lenguas, y entran indoctos o incrédulos, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?

If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

24 P ero si todos profetizan, y entra algún incrédulo o indocto, por todos es convencido, por todos es juzgado;

But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

25 l o secreto de su corazón se hace manifiesto; y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará a Dios, declarando que Dios está realmente entre vosotros.

and thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

26 ¿ Qué, pues, hermanos? Cuando os reunís, cada uno de vosotros tiene salmo, tiene enseñanza, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación. Hágase todo para edificación.

How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

27 S i habla alguno en lenguas, que lo hagan dos, o a lo más tres, y por turno; y uno interprete.

If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

28 Y si no hay intérprete, calle en la iglesia, y hable para sí mismo y para Dios.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

29 A simismo, los profetas hablen dos o tres, y los demás disciernan.

Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

30 Y si algo le es revelado a otro que esté sentado, calle el primero.

If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

31 P orque podéis profetizar todos uno por uno, para que todos aprendan, y todos sean exhortados.

For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

32 Y los espíritus de los profetas estén sometidos a los profetas;

And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

33 p ues Dios no es Dios de confusión, sino de paz. Como en todas las iglesias de los santos,

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

34 v uestras mujeres callen en las congregaciones; porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sometidas, como también la ley lo dice.

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35 Y si quieren aprender algo, pregunten en casa a sus maridos; porque es indecoroso para las mujeres el hablar en la congregación.

And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 ¿ Acaso ha procedido de vosotros la palabra de Dios, o ha llegado sólo a vosotros?

What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37 S i alguno se cree profeta, o espiritual, reconozca que lo que os escribo son mandamientos del Señor.

If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38 P ero si alguno lo ignora, que lo ignore.

But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 A sí que, hermanos, anhelad el profetizar, y no impidáis el hablar en lenguas;

Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

40 p ero hágase todo decentemente y con orden.

Let all things be done decently and in order.
